7:45am and I'm in Jury Duty.......

In Virginia, you have to call in every day, and if they need you then you go in...can't remember if its for a week, or two weeks.

Wow, that's nice. I had jury duty a few years ago and I had to show up every day at 8:30am and sit there until 5pm for a week. I got called one time, we got to the jury room and they sent us back. It was sooooooooooo boring and I had to pay $12 a day to park.

They have a "cyber cafe" with wifi and reeeaaaalllyyyy bad coffee.

Going to start "Cutting For Stone" today.

There are two people discussing Disney World one row over and I'm having a hard time not correcting the mis-information.
I think you should definitely correct them. How else are they going to learn? ;) Maybe you could strike up a fun conversation & kill some time...

So far, I've never actually had to do jury duty. One time I got called, my employer wouldn't let me go. Another time, I'd just had back surgery. I'm supposing I'll eventually get stuck, but as you read above, it really sucks in Ohio...

Kevin, you should start researching what restaurants you want to hit in 108 days.
Any thoughts of hitting one of Gordon Ramsey's places in London???
I got a recommendation for this Gordon Ramsay's on my thread on the ABD board (she said it was the "Best. Meal. Ever. ")

I think the Gordon Ramsay idea sounds great.

Tobi, I was almost stuck in a Death Penalty Jury a couple of weeks ago. If I would not have been released, the next week during the continuation of Voir Dire (Jury Interviews), I would have been released because a buddy of mine was the arresting officer. Whew!

Kevin must have been called in for voir dire. It's been a while since he's posted.

Minor conflict of interest? :confused3

Enjoyed reading this thread … time well wasted at work … I agree would be an interesting experience – ONCE.

Since I’m in the military I’m exempt from jury duty; is it the same in the states?

Cheers,
John

Wow ... In Alaska, employers don't get to say no, they don't have to pay you for work time (many do pay you which is a very nice benefit, but you have to turn in your $5-a-day they pay here - no double dipping allowed ), but they can't say you can't go.

I was on a jury once, first person picked, sat through a 3 day trial, and the was the first picked as the alternate and went home with out deliberating. The clerk was nice enough to call me and let me know what the verdict was.
And I just filled out a survey as a potential Federal juror in AK. Scary that .. here you are Federal duty for 18 months! If you don't live in Anchorage, the fly you down there and keep you for a there for upto a week I believe. Once every month. :scared1:

Just talked to Kevin - he has been picked for jury selection so all electronic devices have to be turned off. He was on a break for lunch and allowed to make a phone call.

Was that his "1" phone call, John? :rotfl2:

Cutting for Stone was one of the best books I've read in years. It took a bit for me to get into the story but once I did I totally fell in love.

I was super sad when the book was over because I was going to miss the characters.

On a related note: do you ever visit the site Goodreads.com? It's a great place for book reviews and opinions.

Didn't get chosen as a juror...but have to stay as there are more trials this afternoon.

Jury duty in FL is a one day affair unless you are chosen as a juror and the trial lasts longer

This is a long tedious process....but they have Bugles in the vending machine, so we're good until the Bugles or the money runs out.

It seems morally wrong to go to the ATM for Bugles.

Gordon Ramsey sounds fun. I hope he's in the kitchen berating someone.:thumbsup2

I just had a man 2 feet shorter than me and MANY pounds lighter tell me that he thinks homosexuality was spiritually and morally wrong and ask me if I agree with him.

He apparently didn't see my Mickey Mouse man bag.

I want to go home.

I can buy Bugles on the way.

I think you showed remarkable restraint not clocking him with your Mickey mouse man bag.

I was told that jury duty is a form of serving your country.

I'm serving my country eating Bugles and playing Doodle Jump.

Will this qualify me for a discount Disney ticket?

Gee, what a great ice breaker.

I sat through in the holding room for an entire day. A half hour before we were supposed to leave, we had to go up to a courtroom. Had to show up the next day for voir dire.

I wasn't selected.

That holding room, I think, was worse than prison.

Enjoy your bugles!

Did you tell him to mind his own **** business?????
I hate it when people I don't know start up conversations like that with me...ya have to wonder about some people

Is Doodle Jump the iPad Kevin? I just got the iPad2 and I'm looking for awesome apps!
