7/30/2011 Mickeys FIRST 7 Night Med cruise

Booking June 18 on Monday. Sorry we can't join you in July, but I teach school in the Southern US, and we start in early, early August. Besides, we'll be celebrating my 50th birthday on board. (I know, CELEBRATE? 50???) But better to be on a Med. Cruise on your 50th, you know.

We may be asking for lots of help in the planning. I'm pretty sure we'll need your recommendations for private touring in Rome. Also, we're thinking about staying in London for a three or four days before flying over to Barcelona for the cruise. May have lots of questions on that.

In the mean time, I have fewer days than you!

Ask away Rome is a repeat for me yes we had a brilliant private tour there, and London is my back garden!!!

I would recommend anyone wanting to go to the vatician to book a private tour with an official tour guide who can get you in before the opening time of 10am.

The queus are long but you jump this I was in at 8.40am.

Did the tour company that you recommended for Rome fit this description? (I have seen your recommendations of this company, and I've seen several other people praise them. I'm definitely putting them on my list.) We definitely would like to go to the Vatican. We're also interested in the Coliseum. I'd be interested in allowing the guide to make any other recommendations, but I wouldn't want to make the day too full. I'd like to have a few minutes to just be in Rome.

Hello Julie, on the first post I have put up a list of private tour vendors, and who I used, My Rome private tour orgnaised everything for me, the Dirve guide took us to Rome, straight to the vatician, there the expert guide for the vatician took over and got us in early. Seperate fee advised in advance, we paid her at the end. Then at an agreed time our driver/guide picked us up, and we saw the rest of Rome with him.

They knew loads of tricks to avoid queues at places of interest, cant post here, but it helped a lot.

Okay, so your tour guide arranged the expert tour guide at the Vatican for you (upon your request)? If you are unable to post that, just let me know, and I'll post my email address as well.

Rome is the city that I am most interested in booking private touring of. I think we'll eventually want to return there, and I'd like to get a nice feel for the city. I know I'll love the rest of the ports as well, but Rome is one of the places I've always wanted to visit. I'd like my family's first taste of it to be pleasant and personal.

Yes, that bit is confirmed, and 'public' knowledge, what they do on entry to historicial sites cant be posted. Otherwise everyone would do it.

Andrew - thanks for posting this information. I just booked the July 20th-2011 Med Cruise and found your first post here very useful!

Hope you have a great trip!!

A Med. cruise is a dream for me. Not sure if I'll be able to do 2011 but, if Disney does 2012 I think I would like to try for then; celebration for my 40th B-day.

Good luck, it might be Europe and Baltic, in 2012, and we have a big event in London.

the train to Barcelona from paris is the Elipsos
Here is a link to a virtual tour - you can tour each type of room. To get a detailed floorplan, click on the little floor plan shown with the tour. There is luggage space located above the corridor. Some of the rooms have a small recessed space that might hold some luggage.

ROME Train station is close to the port

The main train station in Rome is Termini. From there, take the underground (Metropolitana):

Colosseum: take Line (Linea) B to the Colosseo station. The Colosseum is across the street.

Vatican: take Line A to the Ottaviano station. It's a 15-20 minute walk.

I would recommend anyone wanting to go to the vatician to book a private tour with an official tour guide who can get you in before the opening time of 10am.
