7/30/2011 Mickeys FIRST 7 Night Med cruise

I KNEW you would know!!! I just KNEW it!! THANKS!! We can stay a couple of nights at any of those DLP hotels on points which would certainly help out with money!! I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't realize there were 2 parks there!! :rotfl: Maybe we should think about doing DLP pre-cruise for a couple of nights then go to Barcelona on Mon or Tues and then add a day at the END of the cruise for Barcelona. :confused3 SOO much to plan!! :rotfl2:

So are you booking on the Dream for 2011 too?? I think at this point we will be waiting for the Fantasy...perhaps we can rebook on the Magic for the Fantasy?! We'll see.

Yes been there twice, I like the Hotel New york its a 4 star, the second best to the Disneyland hotel, which I do not like, HNY, has the best pool, and a great location, yes Disneyland hotel is above the Disneyland park entrance, but spread all over the place and hard for luggage, its not worth the extra money in my view.

HNY can be walked to through Disney village in 5 mins from the train and bus station.

Two parks there's Walt Disney studios as well, like WDW Hollywood studios, the lights camera motors show started here ad they have Crush coaster, not in any other park thats a great ride.

New ships, no not booking at this time, let them settle in and let prices fall.

Hi guys, I'm gatecrashing too. I'm looking at the August 20 11night but there is nothing posted for that yet either and I'm desperate to talk cruising. We did a 7 night Western Caribbean in Sept. We haven't booked this one yet and I wish we had done it onboard but it never occurred to me that I'd be cruising again in the near future.

Welcome join in any time.

Welcome PrincessBelle39 - always glad to see more crashers join me on Andrew's thread!!:goodvibes Come chat any time!!

Andrew - I like decent hotels but don't have to have the Ritz (remember, we tend to book lower on the food chain [i.e. the SPH rooms]). Looking at the current DVC charts for summer for the DLP properties the Sequoia Lodge takes 34 pts / night; the Newport Bay Club takes 38 / night; the Hotel NY goes up to 45 / night & the DL Hotel shoots all the way up to 76 pts per night!! There is NO WAY we would use that many pts per night when we can spend a whole entire week in a studio at WDW in the summer for 123 pts!!!! Realistically, looking at those points we would most likely book one of the two lower ones and MAYBE the DHNY - but since IF we dp this it would be such a short trip & we'll actually be spending SO much time at the parks it's just silly to waste the points on a room that's not even a studio!

:rotfl: It's still almost 2 yrs away & I'm already worried about leaving our cats for so long!! We usually do 10 day vacations but for some reason the idea of 14 days is starting to freak me out!! :lmao: I am just too anal!! I am now thinking 3 n in Paris then move to Barcelona the day before the cruise or maybe the day OF the cruise and then add a couple of nights in Barcelona AFTER the cruise. I don't know. So many options. I'll have to start more fare alerts now to watch flights to Paris then from Paris to Barcelona!! :rotfl:

I think we will hold out for the Fantasy...and see how the prices are! I am afraid the new ships will be cost prohibitive for us for QUITE some time!!

Overall all the Disney hotels at DLP at good, but like WDW have different levels of service, my DD with the guides is at Sequoia Lodge in Feb 2010.

Transport varies, in length, Disneyland hotel is at DL park entrance, then HNY is the next closest, and even closer to Walt Disney Studios park then Disneyland hotel.

Looking at the current DVC charts for summer for the DLP properties the Sequoia Lodge takes 34 pts / night; the Newport Bay Club takes 38 / night; the Hotel NY goes up to 45 / night & the DL Hotel shoots all the way up to 76 pts per night!!

Newport bay is nice just a bit further across a lake, and facing HNY, Sequoia Lodge is a longer walk, but again both of these you can walk to the parks in say 15 mins.

Yes lots of options a three night stay before the cruise would be very nice.

I'm yet another crasher who is sailing on the Aug 10th 10 night Med Cruise. Annie, I will be happy to start the thread for our group now that there are three lurkers here, but that's where my responsibilies end :lmao:

Andrew if you don't mind I would like to paste your information onto the Aug 10 thread too, there's so much great info, or I can just post the link to come here.

Here's hoping two years fly by!

:wave2: Hi Mike! Nice to meet ya! Another DVC'er I see!:thumbsup2 We stayed at AKL back in the first year it was open as well as Jambo House last summer...we are trying Kidani on for size in March (DS's spring break). Looking forward to it!! Plan to try Sanaa too while we are there, although I can't imagine it beating Boma!! (We prefer Boma to Jiko.) ANYWAY....

You can certainly start a meet thread for our cruise if you want although peeps seem to be finding Andrew's thread just fine for now!! :rotfl2: We don't want him to be lonely!:lmao: We need to come up with a catchy name for the thread like Sir Andrew has!! Until we get A LOT MORE peeps tho I doubt I will monitor both threads daily. I would probably just pop a link into the beginning to point new peeps over here for now!! Andrew will likely offer many more valuable tips throughout the next 18 months or so!!

Initially it WILL seem like it's far, far away but we booked our back-to-backs on the Wonder at around 16 months out and it actuallly went by pretty quickly. There were several of us doing the b2b's last summer and we've kept in touch thru FaceBook etc. - once you "talk" like this online for so long you get to know each other pretty good. Actually, pretty much all of us are cruising again in 2011 but it's just not practical for us to all hook up together again. One family is doing the Wonder PC repo, 1 family is doing b2b's on the Dream at the end of Aug / early Sept when the rates drop a bit and 3 other families are already booked on b2b's on the Dream for July (2 of them take the 'R' suites for both!!!). They both had the Roy & Walt on our B2B's last summer too so I got to go in & check them out. :rotfl2: That's my claim to fame...I got to pee in the Roy Suite! :rotfl:

Anyway, we are psyched now about the Med and will keep this booked for now. I am happy with snagging a SPH room and the price for that + the 1/2 deposit & our OBC from our re-booking / xfer to DU. I REALLY WANTED to go on one of the new ships too...but there's always the Fantasy coming in 2012. OH, and the new DVC on Oahu opens in 2011!! :rotfl2: We usually go to Hawaii every 5 years and were "due" in 2011 but I don't think Ko'Olina will be ready by summer so we're flipping that to 2012... May have to wait until 2013 to cruise again! :rotfl: Do I sound like a chronic over-planner to you?! :lmao:

OH, BWV Dreamin decided to cancel her June Med due to "stuff" happening they call LIFE!!:guilty:

Hi Annie,

Sorry for the slow response. I started the new thread and just waiting for Irish Cowboy to update the list, but it can be found here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2323198

We finally had our first stay at AKL last week prior to our 4-day Wonder cruise. We have a big family trip (1 2bdrm and 3 studios) planned next August and will get a chance to check out Kidani. So far we've stayed at all the WDW resorts except BWV and OKW. My wife and I we're a bit dissapointed with BLT, the location and monorail were nice, but I didn't like the use of space in the room and the points were a bit pricey in my opinion. Overall, my wife's favorite is VWL.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the cruise and you're right the time will fly!! Chat soon!

YAY!! I will go post on our new thread!!! Andrew! Come visit!! Keever - come on over! It's a P-A-R-T-Y!! :woohoo:

So Andrew...I've been lurking on the DVC UK board & the DLP board this week... NOT liking what I see! :sad2: I am still a bit confused but I am mainly just pissed at Disney. (Put off enough that I may just zip off a letter to Guest Communications, just to blow off some steam!)

It's looking like the DLP properties are a waste of both points and money because they have some stoooopid requirement where you have to also purchase "length of stay" park tickets!:scared1: I have not called CRO yet but I DID call DVC yesterday. That CM told me it was with both DVC ressies on points AND with cash ressies. THAT is such a rip-off!! There's a 2 night min. stay requirement which is fine but it's that park tix thing that's just not right so now I am thinking we may need to stay off-site!! Because in our case for example, if we want to arrive on a Sat morning and stay Sat thru Tues, departing EARLY on Wed for Barcelona then we have to pay for 4 nights of room plus 5 days of park tix!! So problem # 1 is that we wouldn't even BE THERE for 5 days tho! In all probability we'd only BE THERE for 3 1/2 days (1/2 day on Sat plus all day Sun, Mon & Tues & leave early on Wed). What is this 5 day park ticket about? AND # 2 we really only wanted to spend 2 days at the parks and have 2 days for sightseeing in Paris - so in effect, if we stay onsite they would FORCE us to purchase 5 days worth of tickets so that we could go for 2 days.:sad2: The CM told me those tickets would cost us $203 each (that's the current price anyway) VS a 2-day park hopper that I priced online & converted to USD which would be $140 each. That's approx. $190 more than what we NEED to spend!! So I don't know now about the whole DLP idea. I will have to explore more options at those "partner hotels" or whatever & see if they work the same way. Like I said, I have not called CRO yet. I was just floored when I heard this other crap!:headache: I would rather pay someone else the extra $190 for a room than give Disney money for a REQUIRED park ticket that I cannot use!! How stooopid.

So! :rotfl: How's your day going!? LOL....

Yes, I tend to agree on your schedule its an issue. I have always included park tickets on my DLP booking basically as we did intend to only do the parks and could come and go as we please.

Now Disneyland Park at DLP, requires one full day, and you should be able to do everything, we did, so our extra days were generally repeats. WD Studios, if you plan correctly is about three quarters of a day, the issues are opening time of 10am, no early entry on this one, and various shows have set times and they clash, ie Lights action motors maybe only on twice, and will clash with the parade.

If you are onsite, you can get into Disneyland park at 8am and thats very helpful but not essential.

Some close ones such as Hotel l'Elysée Val d'Europe are just one stop on the RER train away, if you stay in Paris, you can get to DLP by RER train in about 40 mins and buy tickets there.

Factor in on price that all DLP Disney hotels have breakfast included, the one at HNY is very very good, and well worth a lot of money, and free transport to the parks or walk.

Shore trips, posted on main forum will repeat here.

Three ports are new so no one knows what they will be.

For the four ports that are the same I did these in 2007,

Home port Barcelona had walking tours, and some highlights in the afternoon.

Naples is Pompeii, Sorrento ,Amalfi drive ( must doo all of these )Capri (avoid). Herculaneum ( like Pompeii but better) Mt Vesuvius walking.
Pizza making in Naples, for kids, ( the home of pizza).

Civitavecchia, Rome tours had different types, VIP tours, highlights tours, Vatican, Ancient Rome, Panoramic, On your own, also guide how to get their by train, etc. Also local port tours.

La Spezia was Florence Pisa, Lucca, beach- Cinque Terre, or Portofino, . Again different ones, Art, or VIP, or highlights, Panoramic, etc, there wasn't a cooking one last time but I read you can cook in Tuscany this time.

Villfrance, was of course Monaco, Monte Carlo, Nice, Senic,Riviera, Cannes but its a long way. St Paul -De-Vence is great, Eze is fantastic, but avoid the perfume tour, its a hard sell. You could also high a vintage car.

They had a DVD in 2007 for information, but DCL say there not doing one this time.

Prices of course were far higher than shore trips in the Caribbean, but not too expensive, the VIP tours of course are far more expensive, but overall you can mix and match, approx $55>$155 pp, and also in many ports get the train DCL let you know how, Villfrance has a station to Monaco.

DOH!!! :worship: The more I "talk" to people the more scoop I get!! I did NOT KNOW they included breakfast at the DLP properties nor did I realize that they sleep in like that!:rotfl2: Just when I was about to tell Disney to piss off you go & tell me there's free food included!!:rotfl: I suppose that breakfast would be quite handy! Is it like a breakfast buffet or a sit-down TS with menu (like at Lumiere's / Tritons) or more of just a CS type / "continental" breakfast with just pastires & muffins?????:confused3 Lordy Lordy!! Now what to do!?

At the Hotel New york it was in the Parkside restaurant, now that is a proper restaurant in the evening. Its buffet style so help yourself, plentiful and cold or hot items it can set you up for the day. In fact whilst not advocating this, I saw on each occasion people taking rolls ham and cheese for the day.

Each hotel might have slightly different things, but at HNY, It would fill me up for the day.

Operating hours change but Disneyland park is often 10am standard opening, and 8am early entry, WD Studios is 10am, but they will let you in say 9.30am and you can queue up for a ride, Crush coaster was popular and we queued up at 9.30am the queue was 45 mins deep at 10am.

:woohoo: I can't wait to see prices for what the 2010 Med people have for excursions!! Since you've been around the block on this one, can you give me a ballpark idea how much a private guide / car would cost pp in say Naples or Rome? And of the two places, which one would you say it's the most valuable in order to get to as much stuff as possible? I would LOVE to be able to see all of the places you mention but fear if we end up on a bus tour we'll only see a fraction of it. But I am also afraid of not being able to afford the private route. It's a catch 22 isn't it? Get stuck on a bus that we can afford & miss 1/2 of what we want to see or go into hock for a private guide & see it all.

I bought a book on European cruising so I could read up on some of these ports and another book on Italy. (Might also have to pick up one on Paris & one on Barcelona as time goes on too.) I am finding very little info. on Tunis & Malta so far, but especially only a little so on Tunis. So I am anxious to see what the 2010 peeps have to say about it. (I think I would've rather done Morocco.)

Here's a thought for you... Do you think that DCL will ever switch it up to do an Eastern Med? I would also love to see Greece...:rolleyes1

Euros 550 would be a ballpark add for a private guide at Vatican and entrance fees.

And of the two places, which one would you say it's the most valuable in order to get to as much stuff as possible?

Rome is the No1 place to have a private guide, they can get you in the Vatican early, they can get you down small roads and streets where tour buses cannot go, they are faster to/from Rome. They can move on quicker if you finish, They know back door entrances to places like the Colosseum.

Naples the DCL tours are pretty good, but do visit touristy places.

You will never see all of it in a day, I am going back and I will do new things in each port visited before. For a family of four it can be a similar price for a private tour to DCL cost, maybe if you share say with others the private tour cost will fall, we did this in 07, and it reduced our cost below DCL's

One day yes it will happen, maybe 2012..and I am going to Rhodes in 2010!!
