ONE YEAR AWAY

Just think another milestone down, and its now shorter than the queue for Palo brunch.

Anyway the weather one year in advance,

Thunder storms and lightning last night with local flooding, and tonight, well the same, a very very active low on the jet streat has hit the UK, rain to Monday, and North sea is very rough.

But thats 2009!

You technically don't have to make a firm decision until April of 2010:goodvibes

Trying to figure out how much money my DS15 will need in Italy. His friend's mom said just to bring spending money, that she would pay for food and hotel. How much does gelato run in Italy. Andrew plans to buy a lot of it:rolleyes:

Plus he has to bring a birthday gift home for DH.
How expensive are souveniers:confused3

Hey Laurie, did you see my previous answer to some of your questions? I think it was on the bottom of the previous page. Also, gelato is about 2.5 euro and with souvenirs it just depends on what he wants to buy. You can get magnets and little trinkets for 5 euro and it just goes up from there. What kind of things do you think he would buy? The best thing is to decide what you want to give him and then he gets a lesson in how to budget his money over the course of the trip . . .

Yes, I did see your post and I am relaxing a bit-thanks:hug:
Andrew is such a video game nut-he could spend a fortune in an arcade if allowed:rolleyes:
I just had no idea what anything cost and my friend has been a bit evasive when I asked her how much he would need. I think she feels a bit awkward suggesting an amount. I just want him to be able to pay for some of his own stuff and not relying on her to pay for everything.
My DD12 has so much more common sense:rolleyes:

Plus it is sooo hard to buy my DH anything for his birthday:headache:

Laurie sorry you weren't able to upgrade but glad to hear you had a good time. We had that cabin 2 years ago and liked the location. It was the 3 of us and fine for a 3 day cruise, don't think I could do it for any longer than a 4 day tho.

You were asking about your son keeping in touch - make sure you look at your cell phone carrier's website on the costs of calls per minute. You don't want him calling his friends, or worse yet having them call him, and you ending up with a HUGE phone bill.
Also, for us texting is free for incoming texts but cost 50¢ for each outgoing text. We have AT&T.

Make sure you also keep a color copy of his passport.

Since it's most likely too late for you to get Euros for him to take, I would think that giving him about $40-$50/day for spending money should be good. You might want to give him a couple of ideas on what to buy DH for his b'day so he's not going crazy thinking for himself and give him a little extra money to cover that purchase.

OK for the weather a year in advance today 18th July, its more like an Autumn (fall) day here, there is a little bit of sun really trying to get through, but we have wind, rain, more like October than July. The storms went through over the last two days, some very strong lightning storms. Its all out to the East of us now, thats the 'North Sea'.

However, sunshine is due my Monday with 22c forecast.

UK weather can change so quickly a couple of weeks back we were in a heatwave, so only reported as its one year out! Take it for what worth.

Whats caused it is the jet stream, a strong current of air traveling accross the northern Atlantic has fallen down, to a pattern just below the UK, rather than above taking bad weather in rather than hot from the european continent.

I have to get my DS (Andrew) ready for his trip to Italy. He leaves on Monday. I have the notarized letter (signed by both DH and I) giving my friend permission to take him to Italy and authorize medical treatment.
Now I have to pack and buy any things he might need.

My friend will hold most of his money, but I'm not should if I should bother with travelers checks:confused3

He has a passport. Do I need to send a copy of his birth certificate too?
I have copies of our medical insurance card.
Of course forgot trip insurance:guilty:
We turned on international calling on our cell phones for the PC repo so that is done.

I have to buy him new sneakers as his old ones are falling apart.

What is the best way to keep in touch with him? I'm assuming texting:confused3

Those of you that have traveled to Italy (or have let your teens go without you on European trips)- do you have any recommendations:confused3

I'm only panicking a little:rolleyes1

No birth certificate

One trick for passports - open an account on an online storage site like adrive.com. Scan the passport and store the image there. That way in an emergency he'll be able to access/print a copy anywhere there is Internet access.

Email is the least expensive way to stay in contact assuming he has Internet access. If you had enough time, I'd recommend getting an unlocked GSM world phone and buying an Italian SIM card - rates would likely be a lot less expensive than your international roaming.

If you have time get him an secure passport holder or wallet and brief him on how to avoid pickpockets.

You may still have time to get trip insurance - coverage for medial, emergency evacuation, etc.

You can get a prepaid Visa travelcard or cash card at AAA - since traveler's checks have gone out of style. They offer similar theft protection to traveler's checks. The cash card can be used at ATM's worldwide.

Don't panic.

ONE YEAR AWAY

See you in a year, Andrew!

By the way, I saw in the paper today that BBCA is running all five episodes of the latest Torchwood (with the scary kids) this week . . . so I didn't miss it after all.:goodvibes

Well watch it its worthwhile, you will also see a naked butt of Captain Jack, unless the USA censer gets to it.:lmao:

:woohoo: :yay: One year until this cruise. It's going to be a great one and the weather will cooperate for us. :cheer2:

Well lets hope so, and get Mickey to do some magic for us, however for the first and last bit of the cruise we are down to the unpredictable English weather, so anything might happen. Today we saw a glimmer of sunshine, but it was like an October day, my DD Alice went out to the shops in a t shirt and froze. I was up and out early warned her but being a teenager she knew best.

Alright, maybe I'm slow, but...I just found that Disney is offering a package deal with three hotels in London. We booked two night pre sailing and one night post sailing at the Park Plaza.

Also noticed that the list of ports on the website are web links. It will give you info on each port. Including safety tips and accepted monies for the country.

Called Disney and they still do not have a date for the release of the port excursions yet.
