We plan to go probably before our July 18th cruise.......it would be nice to get that offer!

In 2006, the Free dinner plan offer sayed me over $1,100 over 7 nights, and we had to go mad on the 'snack credits' on the last morning to use them up.

Izzi is your Magic life ring offer still available? We now have a lake front property, we've had so much rain and it's not over yet.

Getting ready to run DD to basketball practice - she's decided to be a manager for the girls team and they have to attend all the practices. She has no clue how long it will last today, so I get to entertain myself by going shopping - IN THE RAIN - to wait for her to get done.

Catch you all later....

We are very chattylicious!! Have fun with the scavenger hunt, that really sounds like fun! :magnify: :tiptoe:

I'm putting you're calling me Lizzie down to a typo so I'll pass on making a comment about that, other than to say please be more careful in future :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

I had the most awful evening. I picked up Josh from home at 4:30pm, we went round to pick up another girl in his class that we give a lift to and then drove to shul. I waited an hour for their class and then we drove home.........and the time I got home 8:30pm yep that's right 4 hours later the journey took 1 1/2 hours each way, I have no idea what was going on in North London last night but the traffic was horrendus and the standard of driving just shocking. Anyway by the time we got home I was just so tired I wasn't even feeling hungry and at 9pm I just crawled into bed. So overall it was a nasty night :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:
That does not sound like a nice peaceful evening. I got the pleasure of going with the girls and their Girl Scout Troop to see High School Musical- The Ice Tour.

It wasn't actually too bad, but now I need to see the movies to know more of what was going on.

Yes I would agree as Robert says above. Hannukah is certainly not one of the major festivals but as it generally falls during December we do get a bit fluffy about it and now I've dicovered Disney Hannukah decorations we put them up and send out cards. We give the boys small gifts every night for eight nights and then on the last night we give a bigger gift. When I say small gifts I really do me small i.e this year they are getting £1 on the 1st night, £2 on the second, £3 on the third etc, etc.

We use a Disney Hannukia which is a candelabra with 9 candles, but you can use a menorah which has 7 candles. I've posted picures of both....sorry Carolyn

Not a problem Izzi!
OK, what is the difference betweeh a Hannukia and a Menorah besides the number of candles? Why are there more on a Menorah?

Ok, so I'm feeling very old ....... this is Josh, "my baby", all dressed up ready to go to his 1st black tie function which is tomorrow but I needed to alter the length of his trousers that's why he's got it on tonight. Couldn't get rid of the red-eye using fotofixer I'll have to work on that one. :confused3

Ok a potted history on the Chanukiah and the Menorah

Menorah is a candelabrum that has meaning in Jewish history and ritual. There is a seven branched Menorah and a special nine branched Hanukkah Menorah, which is also called a hanukkiah.

The Seven Branched Menorah

According to the Bible Bezalel made the original Menorah from a single mass of gold for the Tabernacle. The Tabernacle was the temporary, mobile center for worship of God used by the Israelites from the days of Moses until construction of First Temple in Jerusalem. When the First Temple was destroyed, it was demolished.

The Second Temple held one Menorah. This Menorah, according to the story of Hanukkah, was looted by Greek Syrian soldiers and then restored, purified and rededicated by the Maccabees. When the Second Temple was destroyed, Titus took the Menorah and other artifacts and displayed them on his return to Rome.

The Hanukkah Menorah

During the festival of Hanukkah, a special Hanukkah Menorah, also called a Hanukkiah is lit.

The Hanukkah Menorah is a candelabrum with eight branches of equal size that all sit in a row (one for each night of the festival of Hanukkah) and a separate candle holder for the "Shamash." The Shamash candle is used to light the other eight candles since it is forbidden to use the Hanukkah lights for any purpose other than viewing. When lit, the Hanukkah Menorah should be placed in a front window or by a doorway for all to see.

The Hanukkah Menorah is lit to commemorate the Jewish Maccabees' miraculous victory over the Greek-Syrian army and the one-days-worth of pure oil that miraculously lasted for eight days in the Temple.

So there you have it and please don't get the wrong impression that I am a religious fanatic, please believe me I'm not, it's just that Josh had to do a project this past year on all the major Jewish festivals so I'm a bit clued up on it at the moment.

Thanks but if you chuck it in at Dover it has to get around the southern part of England before it gets to my side of the pond.
The rain stopped, but how we have tornado warnings out until 7:00pm tonight. :scared1: It has gotten very windy out, so at least things are drying up.

Oh Barb .......stay safe

Okay I am back for the moment nice job with the Hanuka Tutorial Izzie!:thumbsup2

Ok you folks in the US listen very carefully.........the £:$ exchange rate is at an all time high for you, todays rate is $1.43 = £1 :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: 10 months ago I bought at $2.07 = £1 OMG I'm scared, very scared this holiday cost is rocketing ....... please may it come down in our favour when we need to pay DCL :worship: :worship: :worship:

If it hits $1 = £1, I'm coming to visit. It would be just too good a deal to miss.

You're welcome ...... as I said I'm not expert and certainly NOT very knowlegable but Josh had this barmitzvah project to do and it's amazing how much "shared" research has been done  :teacher: :teacher:

We could only hope for that. :yay: :lmao:

I wont!

I think we need nerves of steel here and we will see a rolloacoster on £ and it most likely will fall a bit more, I cant see a pick up Short term, but I expect the $ will start to be less of the favored currency in the new year.

The new presidents honeymoon period and start up period will be over with a bump and the real issue of the USA debt hasn't been addressed.

There are companies in a very bad way, in the USA, I read General motors and Ford, to name two big ones.

The pound is well out of favor, and we most likely have a rate cut on December 4th of 0.5% >1% factored in now on our currency.

The talks in Washington today will have an effect.

I think I would say if you want £'s buy short term, I hope/trust we will pick back up by 2010 and this cruise, but not back to $2 a £.

Now I think there is more chance of us getting to £1 equaling 1 Euro!
