Julie - some interesting information I found maybe of interest for your 2010 cruise. Anyway, I was researching Saint Agatha which is supposedly the patron saint of bakers and bell-founders but also found out this:

"She is considered as patron saint of Malta since her intercession is reported to have saved Malta from Turkish invasion in 1551."

Isn't Malta one of your stops in 2010?

Anyways, here is some of her other patronages:

PATRONAGE: Ali, Sicily; bellfounders; breast cancer; bakers; Catania, Sicily; against fire; earthquakes; eruptions of Mount Etna; fire; jewelers; martyrs; natural disasters; nurses; Palermo, Sicily; rape victims; San Marino; single laywomen; sterility; torture victims; volcanic eruptions; wet nurses; Zamarramala, Spain

Its amazing how much I find all this intersting since having visited some of these places in 2007 (such as Palermo where I first saw a humongous statue of her in the local basilica) - to which I have to thank DCL and the DIS for opening up such a wonderful fountain of knowledge to this local girl! Thank you Andrew for sharing so much information and for those others like Barb who continue to share her personal experiences in the Baltic region thereby opening up another whole world for me to research. I have already hunted down some sacred places that I will want to visit on our time in St. Petersburg!

OK - looks like Megan is ready! Ooops - nope - she went upstairs again. OK - off to do more research.

CONGRATS Izzie! I remember when I would :dancer: when I had 3 days off (a Monday with a weekend!) Enjoy and stay safe - love your picture and the fact that you have color. The kids always like color. So what color did you do today?

I think it was pale yellow, dark blue and pink today. For their Chunukkah gifts we've given them gelt this year. On 1st night they got £1, on 2nd night £2 etc etc, well not surprisingly they guessed the pattern tonight and worked out it'll be £3 tomorrow

Yeah! Amazing how those pesky buggers figure it out! On a funny note, my son Andrew has been requesting me to buy some body wash as mine seems to have walked out of my shower, so I had bought some body silkening one - figuring out a boy/man would not want to have that - I bought him a cucumber and melon one - I know but he seems to like it in the past.

Anyway, he comes down last night and tells me - the one I bought him is worthless. He would like Santa to fill his stocking with Caress Body Silkening Body wash. He was made because his sking wasn't soft. So Megan and I both look at each other and do this: :rotfl2: Guess Santa's going to be busy filling his stocking here and at grandma's with you guessed it - body wash. And if I can get my brother and his wife to participate - they might gift him body wash too.

All right I am being paged - they are finally ready. Got to fly - looks like break in the rain - maybe we can make it to Long Beach and back w/o any rain. Ta Ta for now folks! :wave2:

Wow, Laura, that is interesting! Yes, Valletta, Malta, is one of the Med stops in 2010 and I really haven't begun to research much for that one . . .

I have one nice new present under my tree (a heavy one!) and will keep my eyes out for the more irregular package I will be seeing soon . . .;)

So we are all getting excited then.....

A few days to go, and

The weather here is very mild today about 58 deg and the sun has just come out ...... how nice :) :)

It felt like "20 below" around here with the wind chills all day........horrible, freezing weather.........I might have to move to Florida.........:cool1:

Beautiful, JoAnn!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Congrats to those off work! I still have a few work related things to do today (mostly a party, so no complaints) and tomorrow, then that is it until Jan. 5th for me.

Thanks! One more day..................... :scared1:

Caro has today and tomorrow, while I have all week except Christmas day. But when I get home on Friday it is off to the airport and a Week with the Mouse.:santa:

What's the weather forecast down there in WDW for next week? (I hope things warm up a little somewhere!)

Wishing everyone a Happy Holiday Season

not sure I will be able to post before leaving Friday for AKl and then cruising with Mickey

See ya all next year

:)

Have a wonderful time, come back with a report!!

They've just reported a "terrible ice storm" in the northern part of America on the news ...... I do hope it's the storm you guys have just been hit by and not another one :scared1: Stay safe and warm everyone. It's going to remain quite mild over here until the weekend when it's going to drop to about 30 deg.

We just had it, I think. It was terribly icy yesterday and the roads were really bad.

Hello all!

Had a lot of ketchup to do. Happy Hannaukah to all who celebrate. We went to my DSIL's mom's house yesterday for Hannaukah dinner. Christmas will be by me on Thursday.

Yes, we've certainly had really rotten weather. We chopped ice on the sidewalk for over 2 hrs. yesterday. Today is it about 20 degrees F with a windchill of -2. It should warm up though.

Just have 1 more day at school. One of my students was absent for the exam and the makeup is tomorrow so I have to proctor. Then we don't go back until the Monday after New Years.

Thank for the pic of us at the Mini Dis meet last year! What great memories it brought back!!!!!

Stay warm and dry everyone!

Is he going on the cruise? That would make a very funny FE gift for him. :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :cool1:  :dance3:

You'll be following me down 95, this weather is too frigid for me. :cold: :sad1: :cold:

Way to go with the picture!

What a beautiful family.

It's absolutely frigid here. It was 15 degrees this morning, and the wind has been howling since last night. At least that's supposed to let up later this afternoon. It's going to be cold again tomorrow, but it's supposed to be in the 50's by Christmas Eve. That's good news for us. We were supposed to go visit my parents in the mountains on Sunday, but the roads were terrible with the ice storm. So they're going to spend Christmas Eve and Day with us, along with my brother and his girlfriend. It should be a nice cozy Christmas. (And by that, I mean my house is pretty darn small! ;) )

Have a great trip!

Thx Mike.........you know with us DISfreaks (as I like to call us)...it's all about the kids!

JoAnn - your dd in the red has your smile! They are all gorgeous - are you sure they are overage? They all look so young!

CONGRATS Izzie! I remember when I would :dancer: when I had 3 days off (a Monday with a weekend!) Enjoy and stay safe - love your picture and the fact that you have color. The kids always like color. So what color did you do today?

Right back at you - stay safe and enjoy your vacation.

Well folks, we woke up to rain which in SoCal, is horrendous. DD Megan picked a charity called Su Casa (which is for domestic abuse and any other kind of abuse) and she was told to deliver the gifts she has collected today. So of all days, here we go - in her car - not my baby - down to Long Beach to deliver the stuff. She collected stuff from her catechism class such as dolls, blankets, coloring books, games and of course the age old monetary donations. I am constantly amazed at the stuff that people will donate - it warms the heart to know that others do give good stuff too.

Anyways, I am finally getting to wear my waterproof UGG boots and I am bundling up. My youngest DD's soccer game was cancelled, they said something about the girls not wanting to play in the rain - :ssst: I think they are afraid of melting ;) :lmao:

Anyway, got to run as us three girls will be driving in DD's tin can (ok its not that bad - we got her a Saturn Vue with all the works) which we got in preparation for her transfer to a Cal State or university. So far she has been accepted at Cal State Monterrey, San Francisco, Northridge and we believe maybe Irvine - along with a few other close by ones but I believe (with my encouragement) she is ready to travel at least more than 2 hrs away from home. :teeth: If it were up to me - I'd go the 5 hr one! But I believe that she thinks that mommy's purse strings don't extend that far. :rotfl2: JoAnn help! Does it get any better? Or do you still extend the help? Just Kidding, I've always told the kids if you go to college, we will do what we can as long as you don't get below a "C". If you comply with those rules - we will pay the tuition - but I have cut if off at graduate school.

Anyway, them are my plans for today. I hope we make it home safe and sound. Carolyn - think your snow mishaps are like our rain - nothing but a major mess as everyone knows that Californians don't know how to drive in the rain - but I don't count as I learned to drive in Washington state! ;)

Check in later folks!

Ok, first of all, thx for the kind words........the blonde is now 18, the middle one in now 24 and on the job quest and the red one is almost 22 and applying to grad school.

About supporting them.........my Lawall family scholarship involves a 3.0 average. We HAVE enacted a temporary student induced loan, when the oldest fell short (after 4 semesters), then we transferred her to a closer school where she earned a 3.8 average, graduated with honors (and we paid off her loans.) We also sold off her car when she was taking 5 hour road trips and forgot to tell us about them.:rolleyes1 Once they get to grad school, we help them with housing but not tuition. Again, if we ever couldn't do it, we wouldn't and of course, we expect them to do their part and get decent grades (what we know they're capable of.)

So lessons learned.......keep 'em close when they're in undergraduate, hold them accountable........sell their car, if you have to.......celebrate their successes (and of course, hold your breath and hope you got it right!)

Hope it helps, Laura!!!

I agree, thx to Barb, Andrew and all of us who share their info and background knowledge to help us get prepared (I'm starting to get psyched as we enter the New Year!)
