7/18/10 Mickey's Baltic Ballyhoo Part 6

This sounds like a good idea! At least I'll get a postcard from London even though we aren't able to visit ourselves!:thumbsup2

You can get one or two from me, we have a 100 of each printed up, one of London Eye, and one of the White Cliffs of Dover.

Pity you cant come here,

Welcome-

We just started on the cruise board this past week.

Welcome Don. :thumbsup2

Where you from and who are you travelling with?

:welcome: :welcome: :welcome: :welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

Hi Andrew and others,

We are traveling with extended family. My parents are celebrating their 50th anniversary and are listed as Family 51. This is a first cruise with my sister and her family. We live in Orange County near Disneyland. I teach for a local school district.

Big events we have planned currently include a private vehicle and tour planned for Berlin using a Rick Steve's recommendation. (Rick had an excellent recommendation for Rome that we used in 2007).

We also have a private tour planned with Anastasia for our two days in St. Petersburg. Both companies are accommodating two foldaway wheelchairs and appear to be very knowledgeable about access issues. My parents are both ambulatory but can only walk short distances and limited steps without additional assistance.

Our family is really looking forward to the vacation and meeting others.

Don

(I think I messed up when I posted this) :lmao:

Great, we have been to Los Angeles, twice as a family, and a further two times just the wife and I, loved it each time, in fact prefer it to WDW, but the flight is 11 hours!!!!

The biggest curse from LA to London is that 11 hour flight. I have never been a big fan of it. With the US carriers it can be even worse. LAX to Hub (somewhere in the middle of the country) Hub to NY and NY to London. Total time 16-21 hours. :lmao: We saw one Priceline flight 26 hours. :rotfl2:

Normally we have flown Virgin or BA but, with the strike was a little concerned about flights. :confused3 Fares were also high this year. We ended up chosing Air New Zealand for this flight and am anxious to try them out.

I am happy to spend money with a country that assisted on 9-11 with so many of the international carriers. I have also watched documentaries on how giving the people of New Zealand were such great hosts to those stranded.

Yes done it more than a few times we have always flown either BA or Virgin, my preference is Virgin, but I look at all the prices, the beds in Virgin upper class are better than BA.

Fare wise I find:-

12months>10 months, high for early bookers.
9 months to 3 months best fares, but depends on how fast that flight fills, ie Holidays it goes back up.
3 months and less, Highest, unless, the flight isnt sellling.

Yes is about 11.5 hours out for me, and about 10.5 hours back if the Captain uses the jet stream.

BA Strike put people off but 1/ its currently 'over', and 2/ even during strike days most BA Planes flew and the ones that didnt were National, not international.

Hello all! We are very new to the thread; got an amazing last minute deal on this cruise but can't wait!

thanks so much for all of the terrific information - as we have had a very short time to prepare for this, it has been an amazing help in getting things together last minute!

Welcome aboard:cheer2::cheer2:

Glad you posted:thumbsup2

Any questions just ask:goodvibes

When I was looking for postcards for my nephew I found them in a CVS:confused3
Sometimes Walmart has them too (if you don't want to travel to the nearest tourist spot).

That's a good idea. I know we don't have any postcards from my city, I have to get them for the next city south of us. They are on the map!:rotfl:

Questions about the postcard exchange:
1. Are we giving them out at the Dismeet? How will we know who is who? What if the person can't make it to the meet. Should we take cabin #'s and slide them under the door if we don't see them?
2. Do we address the cards and sign them?

Sorry for the questions. Never done one of these before.

Probably easiest to do it at the Dis meet:confused3
Anyone that can't make the Dis meet can deliver their postcards (or be delivered to) via the FE or under the cabin door:confused3

On the DCL website they recently opened some Palo brunch seatings on day 7 (St Petersburg).
I took a 10:30 slot as I figured it was better than nothing and shouldn't interfere with getting off the ship.

I'll probably try to change it when I get on the ship, but I like knowing I have something just in case:confused3

Got a letter from DCL saying we are leaving Stockholm at 3:00 (rather than 4:30). Don't know if this is old news for our cruise. Anyway, there you have it.

We would also like to participate in the postcard exchange. We won't be at the dismeet (couples spa), but will do our best to deliver them to the FE. :)

Is anyone even in charge of the post card exchange?

I added donioc and Cousin Orville to the list on the front page for post cards. This brings the total up to 15. Anyone else want on the list let me know asap so people have a chance to shop for cards. People are starting to leave for London!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info on Stockholm. I didn't know and didn't get a letter. Our DCL excursion ends at 3 so I guess the boat won't leave without us!!!
