My 6yo's party is on Sunday and I need to come up with a game and a craft. Really my DH is supposed to, but thought I would try and come up with something and just let him actually carry it out. At most I need one craft and one game.

Not sure how many kids will be here since many people have not RSVPd... I have 11 who are for sure coming, but haven't heard from 8 people. That can be a different thread... ;)

We're having a magician, so that and the cake/ice cream will be the bulk of the time.

His cake is basketball theme, so a basketball craft would be good. I was thinking of going to Michaels and getting doorhangers that the kids could decorate, but was hoping to come up with something more exciting.

For the game I'm at a loss--don't know why since he's my 4th child--I should have all this memorized by now. I think I've had my mind on my WDW trip and haven't been in party planning mode.

Any ideas?

Before I even read your thread I was going to tell you to check out Michael's. They have a tone of foam crafts. For a game what about put the bat on the batter. Take a picture of his fave player swinging and make some bats of of paper.********sorry was thinking baseball************** I am stumped on basketball. Unless you can do a pin the tail with a basketball.

You could SORT of do the same thing with basketball. Make a poster of a basketball player with his hands up, as if he is shooting a basket and then whoever gets their basketball closest to the basket, wins. :)

You could also do a ball toss..get a small, orange foam ball and use markers to decorate it like a basketball.

Or beanbag basketball..same thing only with an orange beanbag instead of a foam ball.

Is it financially feasible to see if Micheal's has some plain, white tanktops in the size you need that could be decorated with fabric markers, etc for their fave teams, players, etc??

Hope this helps.

I could put my DH to work making a "pin the tail" type game with a basketball player. And/or a basketball type ball toss. Maybe we'll do the "pin the tail" type game and then let the kids who aren't doing that play with the basketball hoop game ( http://www.sportcraft.com/asp/model.asp?model=1-1-27-096&catid=13 ) that we just got the boys. And have the craft be an ongoing thing that they can do when they first arrive.

I think I'll call some of the parents who didn't RSVP so I'll have a better idea as to the number of kids before I buy stuff at Michaels. I don't mind having some extra stuff, but there's a big difference between 11 kids and 19 kids... ARG!

The party is 2 hours and the magician will be the last 45 minutes, so don't you think that one craft and one game is enough. Maybe the first 1/2 hour for games/craft, then by the time we get them seated and cake and ice cream and then gift opening (assuming we have time for that) and then it should be time for the magician.

Can you tell I'm real excited about this? :rotfl: Really I am for the Magician--he's great. We had him 12 years ago for our DD's 6th birthday and he's the best (Turley the Magician, for any of you local people). I just have to get through the first half of the party and then I'll have fun. :teeth:

That's really cute and it could actually be used, something that I like. I'll see if I can find the supplies at Michaels. Thanks!

heres another.....http://jas.familyfun.go.com/arts-and-crafts?page=CraftDisplay&craftid=11120

MATERIALS:
Shower liner, plastic tablecloth, or newspaper to protect work surface
White prewashed and ironed T-shirt
Piece of poster board or cardboard big enough to fit inside T-shirt
Masking tape
Basketball
3-inch-wide sponge brush
Orange fabric paint
Pencil with eraser

Time needed: About 1 to 2 Hours
1. Protect a flat work area with a cloth or papers. Slide poster board or cardboard inside the shirt and tape it to your surface.

2. Let a little air out of the basketball. Find the spot on the ball with the most intersecting lines and use a sponge brush to apply a light, even circle of paint about 6 inches in diameter. Do a test print on paper or a spare shirt to perfect your technique.

3. When you're ready, press the ball onto the shirt. Repaint the ball for each print. (Tip: If necessary, between prints, trace over the black lines on the ball with a pencil eraser to remove excess paint and get a clearer print.) When you're done, use soap and water to wash off the ball before the paint dries on.

If you're at Michael's, ask about the Birthday Party book. They have a book of craft sheets with directions and supplies you can buy. They use them to sell, but also to book their in store parties. DD turns 6 later this month, her party is the 14th! We're going there and making gumball machines. They had a ton of great ideas.

I bought the supplies for the zipper pulls. Michaels didn't have sports bead balls that were large enough so we got other beads (animals and transportation) and they will be cute.

The not so good news is that I think my son is getting sick. :worried: Hopefully it's just a cold and he'll be fine tomorrow, otherwise I suppose we'll try to reschedule for next Sunday, but if that doesn't work we're toast since I'll be out of town the following weekend. Poor guy! He put himself to bed early tonight and now my throat is getting all scratchy. UGH!

To be continued...

We got those buckets of bionicle (lego) pieces and the kids had a blast. They put their creations into goodie bags and we added a few little items and they were thrilled.

I highly recommend the family fun website in general for ideas for games and crafts for parties - I've even used them with Sunday school/VBS groups with great success! I love the ideas on their website.

I survived another party!!! :teeth:

We did the zipper pulls and the kids liked them. Some kids did a couple of them. We did the basketball "pin the ball" game, which went well according to my DH. I didn's even see that since I didn't venture into the basement until the magician came. I was upstairs helping my DD with the zipper pulls.

6yo kids are so cute! One girls was telling me how her 11yo brother has a girlfriend and likes to smooch her. :rotfl: One little boy was kind of a pain, but that's normal. His parents brought his 3yo little brother (they did ask first this time...) and the dad left, but the little brother did fine.

I'm wiped out since I woke with a migraine and had to take my Rx medicine for it, but at least my head wasn't throbbing during the party.

Thanks for the ideas!

Linda

I am glad everything went well for you. I have 2 parties to deal with next weekend for my DD who is going to be 6 too. But atleast one is family.

I was so releived that he didn't wake up sick this morning. I thought for sure last night that he was getting sick. It's not often that he puts himself to bed at 7:30PM.

Good luck with your parties--they really are cute at this age!
