........

I know that people only want the best for your child, but I also think that certain unknown territories can be scary for people and sometimes advice can be given without having first hand experience. That being said, my DD has done some print work and one small live show (Kids R Us fashion show - similar to the Talbots Kids thing). She has received all of her "auditions" thru agencies that DH and I work with. Go-sees can take a few hours (waiting is the most time, the actual "audition" usually takes just a few minutes. It may just be getting the child's picture taken). You can choose what you want to go to and what you don't. Personally, I think that my DD faired better throughout the entire time she modeled than any neighborhood kid who has competed in softball or soccer. They seem more crushed when they lose than DD did when she didn't book something (maybe because we downplayed the actual booking. She was young enough for us to just tell her that we were going somewhere that she could dress us for and get her picture taken:D ) I'm not sure where you live, but try to get your hands on a book called The Ross Report. They list reputable agencies in each state. You can also find them online. And even though she is only 4 and snapshots are acceptable, she is at the age where professional headshots are recommended, so don't be surprised if an agency states this. But you don't have to use their photographer and it shouldn't costs $$$$. Maybe around $200 or so. Good Luck and PM me if you need any more advice.

I at one time looked into getting my DS into modeling. We went to a local agency, they took his picture and then called us a few days later to set up a meeting. I couldn't do it that week so I scheduled it for the following week. Well, they herded about 20 of us parents into a room where they went into their hard selling. They showed us a video then the president of the company came out to talk to us. They gave us a pretty good speal. If I would of had $800.00 to spend I might of bought it. They went on to tell us that we were a lucky select few that were called back for the meeting, they only do it once a month (funny, they wanted me to come to a meeting the week before) and that they fly in photographers from New York to take the childrens picture and all in all to get started would be around $800.00. You were more then welcome to get pictures taken by another photographer of our choice, but it was their option to except them. And out of all the parents that were there, I was the only one that walked out the door without making an appointment with a photographer. My DS was 2 at the time and there was not way that I was going to pay that kind of money for pictures.

So if you decide to do this, be careful and don't get sucked in with their hard sell tactics.

My BIL and SIL had their first daughter model a bit and it paid for all her University bills by age 4...Now she does not do that anymore.

Seems harmless enough if it's geared towards getting money for education for the child. By time she is 15 she won;t remember this nyways and I see no harm in it as long as the parents look out for their child's best interest.
