60,000 bonus points - but $699!

I was SO excited today when I got the mail and there was a package from AmEx offering me 60,000 points (enough for two round-trip tickets anywhere in NA) because I live in Canada and have never been able to access the Southwest bonus mile promotions.

Then I was reading through and it seemed to get even better because every year the card comes with a $200 travel credit, good towards any kind of travel charged to your card!

But then there was the annual fee - $699. I couldn't believe it! Not even waived the first year. I guess I won't be applying for this card...

Holy cow!!!! Is that one of those black cards? I got a teaser for one of those last year, and the same kind of annual fee was part of it.

I have this card. Fee is quite a bit less in the U.S., but it's worth it. Not only is there an annual $200 airline credit, essentially slashing the fee almost in half, it includes member access to Delta, US Airways and American Airlines lounges (right there that's about $1,500 in annual dues) and a top notch concierge service that can literally do whatever you askit to.

If one travels a lot, it makes sense.

Agreed. Lounges are worth it on their own if you are a frequent flyer.
