6 Year Old Trapped in a Balloon. Boy Found Alive - Hiding at Home!

Do you know this family personally?

Or are your insights to their parenting style and what the father would do based solely on what you saw on a reality show, a reality show that is well known to edit for sensationalism and to portray families as total wackos?

I think it is safe to say these people are wackos:confused3

The boy talks about how he hid for "the show":scared1:

If this is proven to be correct, I hope the parents are charged and the children are placed with a loving family:sad2:

Very bizarre. The parents seem way too composed. I tell you what, if I went through all that, I'd be exhausted and in bed.

What the heck was his dad talking about? He's always lagging behind in stores and that's why he didn't come out when they called him?! And like they hadn't already asked him if he heard them calling for him. :sad2:

Falcon: "I did it for the show." or "I hid for the show."
Dad: "You didn't come out?"

Completely bizarre.

ETA: Ok, I just re-listened. He clearly says, when asked why he didn't come out, "you guys said. Um, we did this for the show." Dad sighs and says "yep" (or something like that) and mom says, "no." Then dad's voice completely changes and he said, "You didn't come out?"

Exactly.. I was just going to post the same thing..:sad2: That is clearly what was said..

I watched this video you linked, and all I can say is what a liar that dad is! And a very bad one at that! If you are going to pull a stunt like this, you should at least be a pretty good liar. You can tell he is just making up his story as he goes along, and didn't even answer the question as to what exactly that kid said. I don't hear very well, so all I heard was "for the show".

I can't wait to see what happens next.

Not a doubt in my mind that they orchestrated this whole thing. I hope criminal charges are filed but sadly they probably will get exactly what they want...publicity. Ughh. That video on youtube makes me sick:eek:

If this is a hoax dreamed up by this boy's father, he should absolutely have to reimburse all expenses incurred to look for this child. He also owes every American that waited and watched in horror an apology or maybe $1000 each (JK) for emotional distress. But watching the above video footage of that poor guy frantically trying to catch and tie down that balloon, what must he be going through if this was all a hoax? What if someone had gotten hurt?

I think this dad is making Octomom look pretty responsible right now.

The first time I head that "word" I turned it off. The father is acting offended and p/o'd that people are suggesting it was a stunt. The way they live their lives, what else would you think?:confused3 I am so thankful the boy is ok.

Watching them on CNN, I am fairly convinced that we have been had.
The boy and his Dad talk to each other as if they are puppets.
The house was searched more thn once, the boy was looked for and know one found him ?

Watching the interview the husband and wife look over to make sure they are giving correct answers.

yup

This whole story sounds very fishy to me, and this family (on Larry King now) are very bizarre. And I'm putting that mildly. Just weird.

yup
I remember that family and they were really wild and the boys were well...had no discipline. They were very hyper and were good at not telling the truth and the Dad and mom were like 5 year olds. And they talked about this balloon on the show hoping to make it big enough to carry them.

I hope to GOD that the little boy did not go in it. This is the time you are hoping that the boys are lying. Idiot parents having something like this in there yard to crawl into blown up. I can see the parents talking to the boys about how cool it would be to crawl inside and take off....

They keep mentioning that the boy is most likely hiding because he is in trouble and scarred like little boys would do ....but this family believed in no punishment at all. So there for this little boy would not hide at all.....he would just laugh in his parents face....no kidding.

They also keep talking about a hoax.....personally I can see the parents sending it off themselves to see if it would fly in addition to getting it seen on the news and his accomplishments....and telling the boys to take the blame. He could not brag enough about what he was inventing.

So both could easily fit this family.....what a shame.

DS who is 12 said "Mom tells ya how the family is that when the boy took off in the balloon the brothers were on the roof with a camera video tapping it instead of running in the house screaming that their brother is flying away...:sad2:
As I stated earlier above...and I am more convinced tonight. Parents are like 5 year olds...

I think so, too. For being so scientifically oriented, they don't come across as being very intelligent.

Your DS12 is very insightful. I was wondering the same thing.:thumbsup2

Here is my question: The mom said they searched their house, looking everywhere possible, they even searched friends' houses. Didn't they search the attic of their garage? The kid said he was playing with toys up there, so they must have used it for storage at least...

Also, why were his brothers on the roof filming it with a video camera, like their neighbor described? And why did the brother remain so convinced in his story that the 6 year old was in the basket when the balloon took off?

:confused3

My dd said Nancy Grace needs to get on this. ;)

I read something that said that the attic wasn't searched??? Did anyone hear this or the opposite? WHY wouldn't they search it??

I didn't hear if they searched the attic or not.

What gets me is the boy's comment about "you said to do it for the show." If the parents were innocent, wouldn't the dad have realized how bad that sounded and said, "wait, what do you mean?"

I'm convinced it was all a hoax and this infuriates me. Rescuers lives could have been at risk. :sad2:

This whole thing has been one weird thing after another. But I am so glad the little boy is alive. I guess time will tell the whole story, but I do have to say, that dad doesn't look like the sharpest tool in the shed.:sad2:

I am just glad he's alive and that nobody who was involved with the search was injured.

If they had toys in the attic, that would appear to have been a good place to look at some point. :confused3
They say all's well that ends well, but if this thing turns out to be a hoax that the parents had any part of, it will just add another layer of weirdness to the whole thing.

I just came home, and they were discussing it on the radio. They said that earlier the police wanted to search the attic above the garage, and that there is a pole going up there (not exactly sure what that is). The dad told them that it was "child proof" and there was no way their son could climb it. Apparently, he's now saying that the boy climbed the pole.

Not really looking good for that father.

when Falcon made that comment the dad had a loss for words.....and than seemed afraid to have Falcon answer the question again. The mom was also tongue tied. That moment of silence was deafening.

it is possible that it did happen the way they said and that this family is so off the wall that an off the wall event to us may not be for them.

They were very strange and the Dad was a piece of work. He did not do well under pressure on the show either. When the wife from the swap caught him lying or doing something she asked him not to and she confronted him on it he would have a temper tantrum like a 5 year old..than avoid the truth.

I hope for all involved that this was just a terrible accident that turned out wonderful. I really hope that. I hope we are all just jumping to conclussions. But the problem is....everyone is...not just us here on the DIS....hmmmmmm

did anyone else see the show? bet over the next few days wife swap will have them on again and the ratings will be off the charts!

OH and by the way that video above in post #286 the father when hugging his son saying he is so happy he is safe was soooooo fake. Not a tear in his eyes and did you notice how they had the camera show his face and eyes up close right after.

I was just watching the local news here in Denver. They showed clips of Larry King. It was definately odd. After the boy was asked why he was in the attic you can see mom look at him and nod almost like it was a nod of approval.

They also did a story on who would be paying for everything. They had 2 National Guard helicopers in the air plus the news helicopter. The med evac helicopter nearby all day plus all the police and rescuers and searchers. They said it would be the taxpayers who would fit the bill because the police didn't think it was a hoax. I hope the investivators do a little more questioning tomorrow.

The local news here in Denver showed the CNN thing and the dad did have what I consider a very weird reaction all the way around. He seemed to stall answering the question, as if he had to really think how he wanted to answer it. The mom just looked totally clueless. But I also think its possible we are all just scrutinizing the heck out of this family! Its just hard not to. I mean you leave this huge helium balloon unattended when you have three boys, all of whom are of the age when something like that is a huge temptation. He had already caught the kid messing with the balloon. Then you add in the Wife Swap thing, the music video, the way they live their lives in general, its just hard not to wonder.

I really hope its not a hoax because I would hate to think anyone would use their own child as part of a ploy. If they did orchestrate this, can you imagine how the parents of children who do go missing or killed in freak accidents would feel to know somebody would make something like that up?

Hopefully they are just off the wall and if the parents do not typically discipline the kids, it would stand to reason that Falcon getting yelled at would put him over. And all day long, people were theorizing that the kid knew he was in trouble over messing with dad's prize invention and was hiding which is very typical and not at all unusual.

I didn't read this whole thread, so I apologize if what I'm about to say is repetitive...

I just watched this bizarre family's 2nd "Wife Swap" episode. I watched it specifically to see if they were not comfortable in front of the camera -- but they were VERY comfortable and animated (and strange)... not at ALL how they were on Wolf Blitzer's show on CNN tonight.

I've honestly never seen an adult (or pair of adults) that were such bad liars ;P
Stumbling over every word, evading the questions, changing the subject, long pauses... ugh, it was almost painful to watch.

I will reserve my opinion until we know more. The sherriff's don't think it was a hoax. He also said the family wouldn't be charged for the search.

Bottom line....the boy is safe.
