DS rode ToT at age 4.5 - several times - but was too short at the time for the RnRC, so the entire family skipped the ride. Now almost 2 years later he's tall enough. Since we'll be in Florida anyway in June, he and his sister have persuaded me (OK, they really twisted my arm!) to take a really short trip to WDW just so we all can try the coaster together.

Our family has no fear of roller coasters in general. DS wasn't thrilled with the darkness at the Haunted Mansion or BTMRR (or the noise in the cave/mine part), but ended up loving those and riding them many times. He also endured the noise and darkness of ToT because he really enjoyed the drop. The most "grown-up" coaster DS has ridden is the "Poison Ivy" ride at Six Flags New England. That one is faster than a kiddie coaster but still has no inversions and is outside (i.e., light). I've talked to DS about the speed, inversions, and darkness of RnRC, and he's still game. However, I want to be a little more sure. Thoughts?

If he wants to do it, then I say go for it! The ride is over so quick and it's so smooth, you hardly even realize you went upside down. It is a "dark ride" but with all the neon signs, it doesn't really seem that dark to me.

A couple of years ago, we took our nephew, 7 at the time. He love it and wanted to ride it over and over! (And he freaked out on the Great Movie ride when he saw the Alien).

HTH and have fun!

Has he ridden space mountain? I would try that one first as it is also in the dark. I actually find space mountian rougher than RNR. My 6 yr old is looking fwd to riding RNR this trip, but he will ride any roller coaster that he can. He has rode Poison Ivy many times and loves it, but Poison Ivy is tame compared to RNR.

My son loved this coaster at 7 - it was his absolute favorite ride of the trip. He really loves coasters, The Hulk and the Kraken are a couple more of his favorites. However, he HATED the TOT. It was just too scary for him, he hated the darkness and creepy feeling of it. I was all set to ride it with him after he went with his Dad, but he came out saying "no way". We rode the RNR right after and I expected him to hate it because of the darkness and his recent experience on TOT, but he LOVED it. He went right back on with his Dad. So, I think it just depends on the child. I know he won't ride TOT in Dec. when we go, and he will be 9 by then. Maybe I'll get to go with my DD ;)

He'll be 7 1/2 and can't wait. I've shown him pictures, video and he has ridden Space Mountain and Tower of Terror at the age of 5. (He loved it but when asked if he wanted to go again he screamed NO!). He is finally tall enough to ride that one and Primeival Whirl and Revenge of the Mummy and he is living for it! I am making DH ride with him on RNRC so that he can hold him in but I say let the little man live!

DD rode for the first time in Oct during her birthday trip where she turned 6. She loves the ride and had been waiting a long time to be tall enough for RnR. I was nervous since it was her first "upside down roller coaster" but she loved it! Of course this is the girl that road Barnstormer 16 times in a row one night at 22 months and ToT 2 months before she was 3. :scared1:

My DD had just turned 6 when she went on RnR. She loved it and we rode it a few times. I think that it's over so fast and the fact that you can't see the track from the outside makes it less scary. It's not really that dark cause of all the neon signs. Now my DD won't do ToT...way too creepy for her although I think she would enjoy the drop, she can't handle the theming.

This is now my 7 year old sons favorite ride!! We rode it 4 times in a row on my last trip in January!! He would have wnet on it more but mommy was turning green!LOL!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I've reminded DS of the loud music, "nighttime" setting, and speed/inversions, and he tells me every day how much he's looking forward to riding. Judging from the responses here, everything will be all right.

When the kids tried BTMRR and SM in 2002, we spent an entire morning just running back and forth between the two - now I wonder how much time we'll spend at the end of Sunset Blvd!

There is a launch in there too. Don't know if that would freak the kid out or not, but seeing the train speed off with people screaming is a little much.

Heh, whoa...

My 6old year nephew rode RNR as soon as he was tall enough. He was waiting to board and watched the launching the big eyes, looked scared to death. Did get on it though, and as soon as the car stopped all I heard was" Can I go on it again!!" Loves the TOT as well. To be fair, he is a coaster junkie. Waiting to stretch to 54' so he can ride the REALLY big coasters! And auntie is his favorite riding partner-LOL-gotta love the kids.

Where can we find videos of the rides? I would like to show some of them to my kids. They are very scared of most rides (7 and 10)

This is my favorite ride at Disney. I don't like rollercoasters, but this one is so different than others. I agree with a pp, Space Mountain is so jerky and I get off that ride with my aches and pains. That ride is totally dark, but RR has alot of neon like pp said.

The Disney World website has been updated to include videos of some of the rides, you should check them out.

This link will take you right to RR's video and you should be able to move around from that one.

This sounds like my DD (6) - ToT was her favorite ride at the age of 3. She is now just tall enough to go on to RnR.

I love these boards! When I tell my family/friends that my ds' favorite rides at DLR last summer were BTMRR and the Matterhorn you would think I had committed some sort of inhumane abuse! (He was 35 months at the time!) So.....do you think there is a daredevil gene, or is is somehow related to that hereditary Disney obsession?
