Any ideas? This is how we always end up at Disney. I am idealess. Our other fallback is Kiawah Island but not feeling it this year. Although that Fat Hen.... mmmm.

Here are the requirements
We are going Christmas week (yes I know I am late in planning- 26-1)
4 kids ranging from 5 through 16
Warmer would be better I think
Oh and I would prefer to drive(NJ here and we can drive anywhere up and down the east coast) - see number 1 for reason why - too late for flght deals that time I fear.

I was thinking Amelia Island- but temps are only in the 60's at that point. So not so great.
Then a friend suggested South Seas in Captiva- um at $7000 for the week not happening. Price would be an issue- doesn't have to be dirt cheap- but not in the $5000 + range.

So any Ideas? Any hidden family friendly resorts that I don't know about?

How about a cruise out of New York or drive down to Florida to catch a ship there?

What? Christmas not July! Oh no - we are going over the 4th so I thought we could meet up again.

Have you ever been to Disney at Christmas time - it looks fabulous!

We often stay in Hilton Head Island SC over Christmas (used to own timeshare weeks 51/52 at a resort). It will likely be colder than FL, but we've had years where we could wear T-shirts and shorts in the afternoons. There is still a lot going on (unlike when it all shut down for the season 20 years ago) with most restaurants still open and activities like mini golf and outdoor sports/tours available.

My other suggestion would be doing something like The Homestead in VA.

The Homestead would be wonderful but it is way out of your stated price range for a family of 6.

I know you said warmer would be better, but if you want to be a little closer to home how about Colonial Williamsburg? Lots to do in the area, both historical and shopping, malls, movies etc. Lots of special offerings in the holiday season.

Same with Asheville, NC. Biltmore, downtown Asheville, etc. Wonderful.

Hilton Head is going to be similar to Kiawah (love that place!) in terms of weather but probably has more to offer in terms of activities and shopping, etc.

Captiva and Sanibel are gorgeous - what about some of the Gulf beaches? It should be warmer there and maybe not as expensive.

And Washington DC and New York City are always amazing trips, although again not warm!

Funny ... I was thinking the same thing!!

.

Just got off a cruise in NYC - 20 minutes to the port! My kids LOVED it, especially dd14, who now has a bunch of new friends. The best part is that there is something for everyone, and meals are included.

Did you do Norwegian? That's the one that's available for our dates.

And at Disneymomx7:rotfl2: We are saying not in July next year but now you might have swung me back into going!

We'll be there June 30-July 15th and then we're heading over to Hilton Head July 15-19.

We are driving this year too.

Switching it up a little bit. We're staying Poly gv cl June 30-July 5 and then back to BC July 5-15. We haven't stayed at the Poly in a few years so we decided to do a split stay.

Now I'm just praying for a good AP rate or another pin code like last year!

I had posted to suggest you try sites like cheapcaribbean.com.

I just checked a couple of destinations, and Christmas week is a real kicker... WAY higher!!!

Yes, the Jewel, and it was great. The kids loved it, even dd14, who didn't want to go and leave her friends (and now has so many new ones, from NJ). This was our second cruise with NCL, and I like it, especially with a lot of kids, because you can eat what you want, and don't have to dress up. Plus, no airfare!

OOH, we were about to book this for next week. We now changed to the Miracle. Glad you had a great time.. Was the weather cool?? This was my concern.

We took the Dawn out of Miami a couple of years ago on Christmas. It was very nice, and while it was a lot more than other weeks, I thought it was pretty affordable.

It was warm in Florida and the Bahamas (I had to keep getting wet in Nassau). Kids were in the pool comfortably the second day. We swam in the ocean all 3 port days, but it was cloudy, cool, and rainy for the last 2 days at sea (it could also be raining in July). Have a great time on your cruise!

Thanks for that! Glad you had a good time.

We just booked TODAY!!!!! So, we have lots to do. Fun stuff :cool1:

A little over your budget, but for 2 weeks, including accommodations and food, how about Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas? It leaves on December 19. We'll be on it! It leaves from Bayonne, NJ and has a NJ resident special of $1299 pp.
