We arrived at the HRH at around 3:00 on Wed Aug 28. It was pouring buckets and everone was a bit grumpy from being in the car for 2 days straight (We drove from Michigan). Our moods lightened as we drove past those guitars and onto the HRH grounds. What a fabulous place! Instead of pulling up to the front of the hotel, my DH decided to park in the lot and we had to walk through the downpour into the hotel. As I walked through the front doors and into the lobby, I knew it would be hard to leave this place! The music was upbeat without being annoyingly loud. The casual atmosphere immediately puts you at ease. The vacation had just begun! I didn't see a special line for Loews First members, so I got in the regular check-in line. It was only about a 5 minute wait, if that. The girl who checked us in was very friendly, as was everyone else we encountered. She said our room was ready for us. We had booked a room on club level and I had requested a fold-out couch in the room. From earlier posts I had found out that there were about 4 of these rooms on club level, and although you can't book them, you can make a request for them. I had sent an e-mail about a week before leaving, and I had called and spoke to Andy at the front desk about 4 days before leaving to put in this request. I mentioned this to the girl checking us in and she did say that my request was in the computer but, unfortunately, there was no such room available for us. Bummer! She made a phonecall and then offered us a complimentary roll-away bed. Oh well, better than nothing. I then showed her my Loews First card and she asked me which amenity I would like. I was surprised because we booked through a package deal and was told we wouldn't receive any benefits. I think it was because they weren't able to give me the room I requested and were trying to make it up to me. I happily asked for the milk and cookies. We went up to our room, which was a little on the small side, but very nice. It was a very long walk. After getting off the elevator, we walked down a long hall, came to an intersection, and had to walk down another long hall until we got to our room, which was at the very end of the hall. Oh well, we needed the excercise. DH went down to see about having our luggage brought up, which didn't take long and soon our roll-away was brought in. We had the young man who brought it take out one of the chairs and the foot stool so the room wouldn't be so crowded. By the way, everyone who works here are young and hip-looking. They are also very friendly. It was now time for happy hour at the club lounge. They were serving meatballs, vegies and dip, pasta salad, and cheese cubes. They also had beer and wine, which we took advantage of! Everything was very good. When we got back to our room, our milk and cookies were waiting for us! There were 3 large cookies and a pitcher of milk and they were very good! We decided to save one of the cookies for a snack after returning from the park. DH was worried that the turn-down service would take away the tray with the last cookie on it so he left a note saying "Do not take". I told him I thought that was silly, but he was really worried about that cookie! We took off for IOA. By this time it was about 7pm. We rode Spiderman first. 8yr old DS loved it and the rest of us did too. We were all kind of tired so we only stayed long enough for a few more rides. DH and 15yr old DS rode Hulk and we rode one more, but I can't remember what. Exhausted from the long day of traveling, we returned to our room. The first thing DH noticed was that our cookie was gone! We couldn't believe it. The dirty tray and the half-drunk pitcher of milk were still there, but the cookie was gone! The turn-down service must have taken it, but why? Hubby was soooo mad! I got a laugh out of it and teased him about the cookie monster for the rest of the trip! That is the end of day one. More to follow!

The cookie was gone, that's funny.

When we visited Hershey Park a month ago, they gave us chocolate bars as we pre-checked into the room. The wife wanted to save them, but I said no, we're here, eat them now, it's part of the experience. So we woofed them down on the bus that took us to the park, and this was at 9am. When we got back and checked in for real, they gave us more candy bars. I woofed mine down again. So yes, it's better to just enjoy your little perk as you get it and not worry about saving it.
