6 kids under 6, a Night in the Castle, and Barf...A trip report (5/16-5/21)

I am loving your report! You guys are so lucky, I could not imagine it going to a better family! Looking forward to reading the rest!

Great trip report. Lucky you and family to get a night in the castle even with a sick baby. Can't wait to read more.

How fantastic to win a night in the Castle. I could never be so lucky. Hope your little one got to feeling better. :)

You are so lucky!!! Had a question........do they "lock" you in at night??

I was wondering the same thing. Also, I don't see any pictures. Did you post them? I would love to see them!

Even with the sickies...it sounded magical! :wizard:

The entire time, it wasn't really as if we were "locked in" but anytime we wanted to go anywhere we had an escort. If we wanted to leave, we called and they came with us. I can see how that might have been annoying for some, but it didn't bother us at all.

I posted LOTS of pics...are they not showing up??? (I hope they are!) Can others see my pics???

I can see the pictures just fine! Enjoying your report tremendously! Your kids are adorable! So sorry Lucy was sick in the castle, but think about what a great story you can tell her when she's older! :thumbsup2

Can't wait to hear more....

So when I left the TR, we were doing breakfast on Day 4, right?

We left Crystal Palace around 10:15 or so and headed towards the front of the park. This was a really funny experience for me. Here we were, pretty early in the morning, heading out of the park while throngs of people were still pouring through the gates to get in. It was just sort of funny. I still had that giddy, "Holy crap we just stayed in the castle" vibe going on though, so maybe it was just me.

Anyways, we left MK and took the Monorail to the TTC to catch a bus to MGM where we were meeting the rest of the fam. After a stop in the bathroom for the kiddies, we found the bus stop and waited....and waited and waited. 30 minutes later the bus pulled up. We got on and waited some more. 15 minutes later we finally left for MGM. I guess the folks at Disney aren't used to park hoppers so early in the morning or something!

As it turned out, Mom, Dad, J, and BJB hadn't been at MGM for too long so it was ok. Well, except for the fact that J was inside MGM with D's ticket. He sent it out with Mom since he was feeding BJB and finally we were all inside the park and together. H started a mini meltdown about the sun being in her eyes, so I went into a store and let her pick out a hat and sunglasses. YAY, she was happy again. As soon as Dad saw Hallie's stuff though, he went off and bought the SAME stuff for A and K. Of course, H saw this and promptly took off her hat and sunglasses because she wanted to be original or something. She then pouted for awhile. Darn. $27 down the tubes for me because Dad couldn't just let us buy something for our kid without the others getting something too. Dad has a bad habit of doing that, unfortunately.

D and J are sort of Star Wars fanatics, so of course they wanted our first stop to be Star Tours. The rest of us went along with their plan and we headed over. I'm not usually big on simulators, they make me sick to my stomach, but I said I'd ride with H and it was an ok ride. H loved it, anyways, so it was worth riding I guess. OH! Let me do a Lucy update, for anyone who was wondering. After she barfed the 3rd time at Crystal Palace, she fell asleep. She snoozed most of the way to MGM and woke up shortly after we got there. She was happy and seemed fine so we decided to take things as they went depending on her health that day.

Anyways, after Star Tours, the girls wanted to get their faces painted and the smokers wanted to pollute themselves. We waited in line and A, K, and H all got their faces painted (for $12 each I should have bought my own paints or something!) and we headed back to the group. At this point, D decided that she needed to go get a Frozen Coke so they told us to go ahead and they would meet us at PlayHouse Disney. C, H, Leo, Lucy and I went over to Playhouse Disney and Mom and Dad were supposed to follow us...except they didn't and they somehow managed to get lost. So we got there, and waited. H was AMPED and wanted to get in line. The next show wasn't for like 40 minutes and there was no one in line yet so we waited for the others. After 10 minutes I called Mom's cell phone and they said they were almost there. She was cranky because she said we left them, but we really thought they were right behind us...and we WERE pushing 2 strollers so its not as if we were speeding or something! So Mom and Dad came in and D, J and their kids were still missing. H was starting to freak out about getting in line and I was getting annoyed as well because people were lining up for the show and I had really wanted close seats for the kids. 5 minutes later, D, J, A, K, and BJB showed up and each of them (except BJB) had a frozen coke. H asked if she could have a drink and A told her no. Mom asked D why they couldn't share and D rolled her eyes. This REALLY pushed my buttons. Why? Because I'd bought a frozen coke for myself at Epcot 2 days earlier and shared with ALL the kids so I only got like 2 drinks of it. H started crying so off we went to get her a frozen coke. Except there weren't any frozen cokes in the nearby vicinity. I convinced her to get a soda instead so we did, after waiting what felt like forever for the CM in training to check us out. We headed BACK to Playhouse Disney to get in line (now it was about 15 minutes to show time) and the freaking smokers had taken off for the smoking area. OMG I was so annoyed and so was C since we'd been there waiting for so long already. Finally they got done and then they were all about rushing to get into the ever growing line for the show. D's kids had left their half gone frozen cokes with their strollers, but I had planned on letting H bring her new soda into line with us. Mom tried putting it with the frozen cokes and H cried again. So mom acted annoyed started some spiel on how she couldn't bring it in the show, blah blah blah. I stopped her and said, "Look, she asked for a drink of the frozen coke and was told no. I went to get her something to drink, she takes like one drink and you take it away. I'd be upset too!" So Mom felt bad and went and got the drink for H...and she pretty much finished it before we got in to see the show.

As we were waiting in line, sans strollers, I'd been carring Leo on my shoulders. He is a 2 year old boy folks, and he is a runner. It was the only way to keep him happy and with us. A CM came by and told me, "Maam, you need to put your child down. We had a child fall awhile back and now we do not allow kids on shoulders." I was so mad! I mean, sure, I understand that a kid fell...oh well! The parks are enter at your own risk and if I want to put my kid on my shoulders, its my risk. Plus, we'd done shoulder rides at all the other parks with no problems. I put Leo down but I was not happy, and I'd already been pissy thanks to the frozen coke and waiting we'd already dealt with. Finally we got in, of course with seats in the back, and watched the show. Now sure, the kids didn't seem to mind the seats but it was like the last straw for me and I just wanted to cry. (Keep in mind I was exhausted from no sleep the night before). The ONE thing I wanted to do at MGM was get good seats for the show for the kids because H and Leo LOVE Playhouse Disney. In my mind, I'd already been WAY accomodating about doing what D and J wanted to do, and about the smoking crap that was robbing us of up to an hour each day while we waited for them. I was just cranky.

Luckily, the kids didn't seem to notice and they really enjoyed the show. Lucy was even watching and squealing at it. When the show ended, we headed over for our lunch at "Play and Dine at Hollywood and Vine". When we got there, I noticed that Lucy was feeling a little warm. She was still happy though, so I decided to just keep an eye on it for the time being since she hadn't barfed since breakfast. The lunch buffet was decent. I've had better, but we were really there for the characters anyways. The kids all managed to find something they liked so that was good. The character interaction here was really good! The characters each came around at least twice and the kids loved it, well except for character hating Leo of course! Even he wasn't too bad though. After we'd been there a bit, the CMs turned up the music and called the kids out to dance and sing with them. The girls LOVED this and it was such a fun meal!

Lucy with Goliath, she really liked him! (and she looks pretty healthy here I think)

142220.jpg

This picture cracks me up. I wanted a picture of my Leo with the Little Einsteins Leo, but my Leo wasn't having it. He tried to ignore the situation by focusing all of his energy on chugging down his drink. It was quite comical.

Everyone went up for dessert, but Lucy started fussing then and I knew she had to be hungry since she hadn't wanted to nurse since that morning. I excused myself and went to the baby care center to feed her. This one also had wooden rockers and was very clean. Again, I was the only mom in there. I noticed that Lucy still felt a bit feverish, so when she was done, we headed over to First Aid and got a dose of baby tylenol for her. The CM at first aid was super nice and it was SO convenient that they had Baby Tylenol there. We then headed back to the restaurant to meet up with everyone else as they were getting ready to leave. Again the smokers wanted to smoke, so they found a smoking area and Mom, C and I took our kids over to watch the Stars and Motorcars Parade. This parade was actually REALLY good and H and Leo had a great time. Many of the characters that were walking came over and gave them 5 and so many commented, even from their cars, about H's face paint. Maybe it was worth $12 after all, because she was eating up all that attention!

After the parade, we met back up with the smokers who'd been too lazy to join us at the parade. D and J decided they were done with MGM because they'd ridden Star Tours and that was all they wanted to do there. Dad decided he needed a break too, and I think they all just expected everyone to follow suit. This didn't sit well with me at all and I finally let them know. Ok, maybe I wasn't the nicest about it, but I was done getting ticked off and biting my tongue. I went off on Mom when she got an attitude about me not being ready to leave. I was sick of always doing what other people wanted to do, and being nice and thinking of their wants, when obviously no one was paying attention to things C and I might want to do. We did end up leaving, but mostly because I was ticked off and lost my appetite for fun at that point. The bus to ASMusic took about 20 minutes to show up but finally we were on our way. Dad held Lucy and she barfed in his pocket. I secretly got a kick out of this and it brightened my mood considerably. I know, I really am mean spirited, but it was funny.

When we got off the bus, H wanted a shoulder ride from C because she was tired. A few minutes into the walk to our room, she fell asleep slumped over on his head. When we got to the room, we tried to wake her and she simply sat up and kept sleeping. It was SOOOO dang funny.
163321.jpg

The pic is a little blurry, but you get the idea.

Our luggage had arrived from the Castle Suite while we were gone, but Leo's dream friend Mickey was missing. Cory called Guest Services who connected him to Julian at the Castle. Julian assured Cory he would take care of it. We spent a few hours in our room letting the kids nap before thinking about what to do next. Mom and Dad were staying at the hotel for the night. D and J had talked about going to Epcot for IllumiNations. C and I decided we were going to DTD for dinner and a little shopping. We told Mom this and she started to get cranky. I think she thought we should all do the same thing, all the time, and that wasn't happening for me that night. I needed a break from those people! So, we left and went to DTD. It was a Saturday night, so it was a little busy, but it was still nice. H rode the carousel there and Leo rode the train (of course!). I thought $2 a ride was steep but I knew they'd flip if we said no, so they rode. As Leo was on the train, Lucy started acting hungry...really hungry. The place was PACKED but she wanted to eat like RIGHT AWAY so I just fed her there. I'm not usually very comfortable about nursing in public but I only got stares from a few guys walking by and otherwise it went pretty smoothly, thank god! We grabbed a CS dinner at the Wolfgang Puck Express and it was REALLY good! We ate outside on the patio. H got the kids pizza meal and the pizza was as big as the plate (and so yummy!!!). I honestly don't remember what I got, but I ate it ALL and I remember that it was good. LOL. We browsed a bit at the shops and then waited about 20 minutes for the bus back to ASMusic. We were back in our rooms by 10pm I think. When we got back, we saw Mom who was watching D and J's kids so they could go to Pleasure Island that night. They'd gone to MK for awhile, came back to drop off the kids, and left again. When we got into our room, there was a message from the front desk. A new dream friend Mickey was waiting there for us from Guest Services. I gave the kids quick baths and got them settled into bed while Cory hiked up front to get it. It took him awhile, since its quite a walk, and the CMs working the front desk had all sorts of questions for him about staying in the castle. Actually, most CMs that we met had questions about the castle (if they found out we'd stayed there) because most of them have never seen the suite themselves. By the time C got back, I was in bed snoozing with Lucy. Around midnight, I awoke to hear Lucy gagging again. She barfed one last time and then slept pretty soundly for the rest of the night...thank GOD!

So that was day 4. It was a LOT less magical than day 3, that is for sure! Heck, I still feel sort of cranky just thinking about that day. I think we are at the point in the trip where we were all (ok at least I was) tired and getting sick of each other. I do think the break from everyone that night was a big help though, because I felt much more peaceful and happy by the time the night was over.

I have been enjoying the report. :surfweb: Thanks for sharing! On our trip, our kids were 8 and 2. There were a couple of days we didn't get to do much due to a few meltdowns by our 2 year old. :headache: So, I can relate. I also can relate to your need to have time to yourselves with just your own little family. Too much togetherness can get on everyone's nerves! :rotfl:

OK, so I can't even tell you how much I enjoy your TR. And i can so relate.
Last December we went to DW. It was my mom and dad, my 2 sisters (no kids), my DH, me , DD2, and DS6mo.

Although there were parts that were fun, being with family all the time was EXHAUSTING.

Your TR makes me smile and laugh.

Thanks for sharing!!!:goodvibes

The first time we went to Disney was with a large family group. I remember being asked by someone to please not buy water just for my family, it wasn't fair to the other kids.

Um, what?

My whole position was: 1) its water, not a treat and 2) we are all adults and know that water will possibly be required and so 3) why should I be penalized for planning ahead and being prepared?

In retrospect, I might have been being cheap-- but OTOH, water is expensive there and they have two girls, one of whom was too young to really have her own full bottle of water AND they have a long standing tradition of letting everyone else take care of their business.

So, yeah, I feel it.

Fortunately for us, my niece had a meltdown 20 minutes into our first MK visit and threw herself bodily from the stroller and they told us to just go do our thing and we'd meet for meals. Which made everything better!

You haven't mentioned love bugs-- what gives?

You haven't mentioned love bugs-- what gives?

We really didn't have much of a love bug problem, luckily! They were out, but not overwhelmingly so. Leo liked letting them crawl around on him...ewwww! There were a few times where I had to swat them off the baby but in the parks they pretty much just flew around and weren't a bother. One day on the bus (to MGM I think) we drove through what must have been a SWARM of them though. OMG it was so gross! They were everywhere and there were tons of them. At that moment, I could totally see then why some people hate them. I would too if I ran into something like what we saw outside that bus!

I love your tr and it confirms my dh's vow to NEVER EVER EVER to travel with family to Disney! We tried it once and I didn't think it was too bad but we were only meeting up for dinners. I still sounds like you had a great time and the pictures of the castle are gorgeous...we can only hope for something like to happen when we go in August! I am hoping and praying for no hurricanes and no lovebugs! Can't wait to "hear" the rest of the story....

I am loving your trip report!!!! I'm so sorry your sweet baby was sick though. I hope no one else caught it. Can't wait for more!!

Am I to Day 5 already? Man time flies when you are having fun! So Day 4 was not the greatest, but I figured things had to get better. Why? You may be wondering...well I'll tell you! I knew things would be better on Day 5 because I already had plans that morning for just C, H, Leo, Lucy and I! :cool1:
I have been a member on a message board for moms of kiddos born around June 2003 since I was pregnant. One of the other moms was also on a vacation at WDW when we were there, and 2 others lived in the Orlando area. So, we made plans to meet at DTD for breakfast on the morning of Day 5. YAY!! Everyone else would meet us at DTD at 11:00am because A, K, and H had appointments at BBB for 11:30.

We woke pretty early on the morning of Day 5, got ready and were at the bus stop for the DTD bus by 8:00am. I figured this would give us plenty of time to get there for our 9:00am breakfast. As it was, the bus took like half an hour to arrive and we made it to DTD just in time. We met my friends at the McDonalds next to the Lego store. The kids played on the slide/play area for a bit and then we all went inside for breakfast. After we ate, it was back outside to play some more. It was a really nice, laid back meal with people who seemed like old friends even though we'd only just met in person. I called H over around 10:45 and put her Princess dress on (and those damn uncomfortable shoes that she insisted on wearing) and she went off to play a bit longer. D called on the cell phone right around 11 to let me know that they were waiting outside the World of Disney store so we said our goodbyes and we were on our way to the BBB.

We met up with Mom, A, and K (everyone else was shopping and Dad had decided to sleep in) and went inside to check in. They took our names and gave us the little pager thing and we waited. It was REALLY crowded in the store area and we had a hard time keeping the girls happy while we waited. I guess I expected a waiting area or something and there wasn't anything of the sort. The girls were VERY excited about the BBB and since I was the one paying for it, I really wanted them to enjoy the experience. While we were waiting, A mentioned something about her tummy feeling icky but she said it was from the smell of hairspray so we didn't think anything of it. This would come back to bite us later. We were finally called back, about 15 minutes after our appointment time. The girls met their fairy godmothers and they were loving it. The pics I uploaded are of H's transformation but I did take pics of all the girls through their make-overs.

All done and beautiful! My mom laughs and says H looks almost asian in the eyes here because her hair is pulled up so tightly.

Alexis, Krista, and Hallie after their BBB make-overs

So all 3 girls got done and we were ready to head over to Guest Services for photos. I am SO glad I read on these boards about being able to get the photos taken, even if you don't buy the mega expensive BBB package! We bought our Photopass and all of the photo shoot images were on the disk...totally worth it!! We stepped out of the BBB and back into the World of Disney Princess area to meet C, J, and the babies. They were oohing and aahing over the girls when A suddenly exclaims, "I think I need to throw up!" I tried rushing her to the bathroom but it was too late. She keeled over and ralphed right there. We tried to hold back her dress and fake hair while she barfed all over that princess haven. Its kind of funny in a sick way, if you think of it. Anyways, once she stopped heaving, Mom and D hurried her into the bathroom while I got the lovely job of trying to keep people from walking in the barf. I summoned a CM who quickly went to get paper towels, etc. and C and I continuously warned people not to walk in it. We were doing well until some headstrong guy ignored us and stomped right through it. Totally gross, but completely his fault for not listening! The CMs were great though. They arrived quickly with paper towels and assured us a clean up crew was on its way. Then they told C and I that we didn't need to wait for the clean up and sent us on our way. Mom and D got A cleaned up and A insisted that she felt better and wanted pictures so we decided to give it a try. A. looks pretty deathly in the group shot, but its still cute.

And a cute one of Princess Alexis, before she barfed. LOL

(I did warn you we'd have more barf, and I do not fail to deliver!)

Once the pics were done, we hopped on a bus and headed back to ASMusic to rest before our last night at MK. We'd been up quite awhile and H was apparantly pretty tired from all the excitement.

145807.jpg

Even princesses need their beauty sleep!

After naps, we headed back to MK. Again, C, H, Leo, Lucy and I left ahead of the others because they weren't ready to go at the agreed upon time. Fine with me!! It was a nice break! They knew we had dinner reservations for 6:40 and said we'd meet up then.

171230.jpg

C and the girls in front of the castle.

We headed back to Toon Town and the kids rode the Barnstormer. H wanted to ride with her arms up and giggled the entire time. Even my chicken Leo rode a few times and loved it! We then waited in line to see the Princesses (again) because apparantly H can never get enough of the Princesses. The sign said 20 minutes and it took 45. Leo was not a happy camper and had not one, but two meltdowns while we waited in line. I can't say that I blame him though. It was pretty boring. After the Princesses, it was about time to meet up with everyone else so we headed over to Liberty Square. We had reservations at Liberty Tree Tavern. I sent D in to check us in at about 6:30 and she came out fuming and said I needed to talk to the CM at the desk because there was a problem with our reservation. I went to the desk and was informed that our reservation was listed as 4:40, not 6:40. OMG I about lost it! I KNEW I'd made those ressies for 6:40 because I made them knowing we'd be at DTD that morning and may not get to MK until later afternoon. The CM and Manager tried to argue with me but eventually said they would get us in "as soon as possible" even though there was an hour wait. I was still fuming, but what could I do, ya know?

We grabbed waters and popcorn for the kids to snack on while we waited (they were hungry!), and went over and got our EMH bracelets. A was still sick (had barfed some more at the hotel that afternoon), but we needed to eat and Mom and Dad didn't want our TS credits to go to waste so they had decided to bring her into MK for dinner and then right back to the hotel. Thankfully, she wasn't barfing anymore. She was just pasty looking and a bit feverish. I really think she had a milder version of Lucy's bug because she wasn't as pukey but it followed a similar course. Lucy started cranking so I took her over to the Baby Care Center to feed her. Finally, I wasn't the only one using the baby center. It was kind of funny to me. The other baby in the room seemed very calm, while Lucy was trying to do nursing gymnastics and sticking her foot in my face. Lucy is quite a card, I tell ya!

It took about 30 minutes and then the group was finally called back to our tables. I guess that wasn't a bad wait considering, but the whole ressie mess-up still burns me! I came back from feeding Lucy and everyone else had already been seated. The manager quickly found them for me and seemed to be kissing my butt a little, which was in order I think, thanks to the ressie thing. The food at Liberty Tree Tavern was ok. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. The character interaction here was the best we'd encountered the entire trip! All of the characters came around multiple times. They were joking and playing with the kids and it was a really good time. (Except for poor A who ended sleeping with her head on Mom's lap as we ate.) Although I wouldn't go back to this location because of the food, I'd definitely do it again simply for the great character interaction. We all really enjoyed that.

193711.jpg

Aside from the Princesses, Minnie is H's favorite.

Once we were done with dinner, we all walked Mom, Dad, A and BJB out for the night. Mom stopped and bought the PhotoPass CD and then they headed back to the hotel with sick A so the rest of us could enjoy the EMH. Wishes was just about ready to start, so we just stayed up front and watched what we could because we didn't want to fight through the crowds heading back yet. We also bought Mickey ears for the babies and Leo since they didn't have black ones yet. (We all got them in 2004 when we were last at WDW together.)
210148.jpg

The kids loved the talking Goofy

212502.jpg

My son NEVER wears hats, but he LOVED his Mickey ears with his name on them!

After Wishes, we went back to Fantasy Land. It was our last night at WDW and we wanted to enjoy it! We were getting ready to ride the teacups when we realized that Leo's shoes were in the stroller A had been riding in when they left. Crap!! We sent C and Lucy on a shoe buying mission (Pirate Crocs anyone?) and I carried Leo so he could ride. We rode the teacups, and C finally arrived with the shoes as we were exiting. YAY for Pirate shoes!! Next, we rode Winnie the Pooh and then headed over towards Space Mountain. D and J wanted to do Space Mountain so we got the baby swap pass and they waited as we took the kids on the Astro Oribiter, Dumbo, and the Carousel. We traded then and D and J took the kids to get ice cream while C and I did Space Mountain. The baby swap thing is SOOOO nice, especially when you are the one who doesn't have to wait in the long line!

When C and I got done, I was really wanting a frozen lemonade. C went into the ice cream place and came out with a smoothie instead. Ok, in his defense, it was a nice try, but a smoothie?? The smoothie wasn't cutting it so he drank it while I whined about my lack of frozen lemonade while we walked to the front of the park. The wait for the bus wasn't bad and we were back at ASMusic by 12:30pm. This bus driver was the first one who tried to keep us entertained which was really nice after a long night in the park. The kids crashed on the bus and slept through getting pajamas on and everything. They were beat!! I stayed up and packed up our bags, since we were leaving the next afternoon.

Over all, Day 5 was pretty good. Ok, so we had some barf, a few meltdowns, the reservation mix-up, and those uncomfy shoes again, but I was in pretty good spirits when the night ended. I think it was a great last night and the EMH were such a nice bonus for us.

Geez, my trip report is almost all done now. It almost makes me sad! We've still got day 6 though so don't leave me yet, ok!!!
