6/4/09 Wonder 3 Night

Arriving at 11:15 or so, it wont much matter, but the fast way is for one to get in line while the other parks...however, only one of you needs to be there at the check-in desk so long as that person has all the passports AND possesses the credit card that is on file...ie it has to be the same person whose name is on the credit card.

The time all this matters is right at 10 am when the rush is on for those #2 boarding passes (#1 is concierge) as that is when people want to rush on to get Palo ressies or other things modified. The other reason to arrive early is to upgrade cabins at the gate as there often opportunities to do same. However, even if we arrive early, we are not changing cabins (again) this time as we already have the so-called secret veranda cabin (actually there are 4 i believe), which is a cat 7 that was originally a cat 5. It was downgraded b/c a small portion of the balcony is cutoff by the curvature of the ship. That said, we have upgraded at the port a few times and will likely be seeking to do again on the Magic this Thanksgiving.

Chuck:cool1:

Chuck,

Is it worth upgrading at the port? :boat: It's just me and I am in a Category 9 cabin (single large porthole). :sail: I guess I would be upgrading (if possible) to a stateroom with a veranda? :ssst: What would be the typical cost for upgrading? :smooth: I will be checking this board tomorrow and Tuesday. :hourglass

It depends on a lot of things. First, are you prone to motion sickness? if yes, Deck 2 can be better for you than a higher deck. Second, and I just dont recall, are you a Florida resident...if yes i'd suggest calling immediately and see if you can get a resident rate on an upgrade if you have not already done so. Third, if you consider an upgrade, get to the port early so as to be in line as close to 10am as possible - if upgrades are available they will usually go fast - ask at the check-in desk (I also note that if the person says no, check-in then go to the far right and ask again - those people may give you a different answer). As for an upgrade from a cat 9, cat 8 not worth it. cat 7 is navigator veranda and cat 6 is regular veranda...the premium for the upgrade varies by cruise and it depends whether it is worth it to you and your budget. There is nothing wrong w/a cat 9 (we actually had a cat 11 our first cruise b/c we signed up very late and there were no upgrades, though that was Thanksgiving), so whether or not to upgrade is really personal preference.

As to the cost, I just suggest asking when you check in b/c there are a lot of variables, not the least of which is what you already paid....but if you are a Florida resident, dont wait...call tomorrow (and given how long you have been on this board you could not have originally gotten a Florida resident rate b/c they did not come out until the day we joined this thread).

Chuck,

Thanks for answering my questions. :thumbsup2 Now that I think about it I wasn't sure if I was prone to motion sickness since I have never cruised before so I did choose a cabin lower on the ship and in the middle. :boat: A verrandah would have been nice but maybe for now I will stick with my port hole window. :sail: Besides I'm not lucky enough to be a Florida resident so that discount is out.

Oh well, see you guys in a few days! party:

BTW, we recommend Bonine even if you are not prone to motion sickness starting the morning of the cruise...it is a great "just in case"..

Chuck:cool1:

I heard not to miss lunch at the restaurant on Nassau day. Last time we ate at Beach Blanket and enjoyed it. Do they serve the same items in both places for lunch? Which place would you recommend and why?

Does it cause drowsiness? I'm not disagreeing with you, I just remember reading or hearing that for some people it had a negative effect on them. Currently I am taking Ginger Root and Butcher's Broom to avoid any motion sickness/sea sickness while on the cruise.

Both my husband and I took Bonine on our cruise last year. Neither one of us had any effects from taking it. The weather we had last year was a perfect 10 for the entire cruise. We did not see a cloud in the sky and no waves at all. We learned a new word from that cruise........wavelets........and I'm hoping that's all we see in 2 days!!! I have the Bonine packed and I will be taking it again before the ship leaves.

Howdy Ho Neighbors :)

Bio terms are done:cool1:

Motion sickness.. Out of all the cruises we been on, the only time I got motion sickness was on the Disney Wonder. I can remember sitting in Parrot Cay. We sat right next to a window. I looked up and see the green leaf moving that was surrounding the window. Off to the room I went, took a half of a phenergan and went to sleep. I was find the rest of the trip.

Bonine, Dramamine II, is all in the same family, they have the same active ingredient...which is Meclizine. I believe it has to do with personal preferences. Bonine/Dramamine II is said to cause less drowsiness and either is favored by people I know. My DD 11 likes the wristband. Bonine made her too sleepy one cruise. The next cruise we got the wristband and she was just find. You will see a lot of people wearing the patch as well. But I would recommend checking with your physician first, there are certain medicines that can interact with it and should be avoided while taking the medicine.

I am kind of curious about this concoction..:3dglasses Would love to know if it works for you.

Okay, just got off the phone with Disney Cruise Lines. :sail: They called me and let me know I have been upgraded to a Category 6 Verrandah room from a Category 9 Deluxe Ocean View room, I am now in Room 6088. So now my question is, (I was so exicted I forgot to ask), does the stateroom celebration package I ordered go to the new stateroom? :cake: Can you tell I'm a newbie?

Wow! Congrats on the upgrade... what a wonderful way to celebrate your birthday. As far as your question, I do not know.. that is a good question. Maybe try give them a call back?

Grats

Just tell them at check-in, though calling might to it too.

We have no issues of drowsiness from bonine and take it every day of every trip as insurance...i thought dramamine had a different active ingredient as i understood it to be significantly less effective.

Chuck:cool1:

Well we just got upgraded too, but we are not moving far...actually just next door...literally.

We are now in 7118 (which is a cat 5 from a cat 7).

I am sorry I forgot my II for the Dramamine. which is the brand less drowsiness formula. and I have corrected my post.. Sorry it was late night..

You are correct regular Dramamine has a different active ingredient, which is Dimenhydrinate.. which is also a "cousin" with another popular antihistamine.. anyone? anyone? Bendaryl.

DD is one that is sensitive, while the other DD is one to have a different effect, cough medicine will make her bounce off the wall.

I am now getting jealous of these upgrades! I just called and they did not have anything.. but we have two cabins, well three. But I am only worried about our two.

I think it is likely that since you have multiple cabins next to each other, that is why you did not get the upgrade call as you would probably have had to be split up.:sad2:

Chuck:cool1::cool2:

Congrats on the upgrades people!

Cliff,
We would have been close neighbors. When we originally booked in June 2008, we were in room 6080. In January 2009 I found out that we were moved to room 7068.

This will be my last post until we return from vacation June 14th. We are getting up tomorrow around 4am to make sure we get to SFO and not miss our flight. I wish everyone a safe drive/flight. Looking forward to the cruise and meeting everyone around 4pm on Thursday!

:thumbsup2 :grouphug: :cool1: :yay:

I did call and they told me the stateroom celebration package is tied into your reservation number, so I didn't have to worry since they knew the room number already.
I think I might go out tonight and buy Bonine at Walgreens (if I am able) just to be safe.
Tomorrow is an early morning since I have to be up by 4:40am to make it to the airport. See you guys soon!
