How is everyone? We are finally settling down! Did some magnets tonight and they turned out great! Gotta get some more paper:woohoo:

Well, since it is spreading fairly rapidly, it has the potential to be a large and widespread issue. So far, the cases in the US have been mild and no deaths. I don't know if the deaths are due to the areas in Mexico being hit, health care available there, lack of medicine, etc. I don't think there is reason to panic, but if not taken seriously it could become a BIG problem. The WHO issued a warning that it could become a pandemic if left unchecked. Just continue to use good hand washing, go to the doc if you have flu symptoms (cough, dizzy, Headache, fever, etc).

IF this continues, I will seriously consider staying on the ship and eating the money for the dolphin swim.

We would have to eat the Dolphin swim money too, if we don't go to Cozumel. But if we don't dock there, can't we get our money back? I am little(alot- really) leery of going there with all of the this going around.

I have heard there are several good restaurants around the area we would defiantely be up to meeting for dinner somewhere...

There is a place called Kelsey's across the street from the Radisson- maybe we could have dinner there.

I am ready for a Port Canaveral Dismeet on Friday night.:thumbsup2

Kelsey's sounds great.... so you gonna be in charge and get it together.... Just post the time and let Stephanie know so we can get it on the website!!!

If this swine flu continues, even if we stay on the ship we will be exposed to tons and tons of people who did NOT and could spread it all over the ship...

I seriously hope that DCL doesn't go to Cozumel...
Would this affect Grand Caymen port too or just Cozumel?

Same here, we have had a busy day!! We went to a huge community yard sale this morning, then ballet for Jordan, a wedding at 2pm, then receprion until about 5pm, then took Jordan and her cousin out to eat and to see the Hannah Montana movie. I am tired now!!

P.S. I did find us matching t-shirts to wear when we board the ship, I am putting our cruise logo on them!!:goodvibes

We'd get 90% back, correct?

Yea! I haven't done any yet.

Unless it spreads via ships, etc, then I would think GC would be safe.

Glad you found shirts. I'm thinking of taking the kids to see HM tomorrow. Today Davis had 2 flag football games and Rees had his musical. Then we went ou to dinner with my in-laws.

OK- here goes.

Roll Call:
Kelsey's or another restaurant that someone knows about
Friday June 12th dinner
I have never been there- just some good recommendations from the Dis- if anyone knows of a good spot- that's fine too. We need something kid friendly.
Anybody joining?:goodvibes

You know we are in... But only if we can walk there easy from the Radisson because I don't want to transport my kiddos by Taxi because of my little ones.

hmmm If we don't want to eat in a restaurant we could always do Pizza by the pool at the Radisson? Even if people want to come over and meet there at least there would be swimming for the kids and the bar for the big kids :rolleyes1... Last time we stayed they did live music by the pool.....

I am up for anything but hmmmmm we love that hottub...:woohoo:

CDC Recommendations
CDC has NOT recommended that people avoid travel to Mexico at this time. If you are planning travel to Mexico, follow these recommendations to reduce your risk of infection and help you stay healthy.

This was as of noon today.

We will not be getting off the ship if this gets any worse, even if there are no travel warnings. Maddy can't get all of her immunizations so we have to take extra caution in places like this. We will just have to enjoy the magic all by our lonesome.

One good thing is that Cozumel is kind of remote so it should be harder to be infected there.

Well last week we did a cruise with stops in Cozumel, Jamacia, and Grand Caymen. In Cozumel, we just stayed around the port. It appears we have been fine so far. I notice on the site that it says symptoms appears about 7 days after being exposed.

I think the pool at the Radisson is a great idea. We are staying at the CI&S but I think they are close and I will have a car to cart my bunch over. Will the Radisson not mind the extra people?

I think GC would be fine. We will know way before our cruise if they stop going there. They can't afford for one crew member to get this, it spreads like wildfire on the ships.

We are leaving now at O'dark thirty to a HUGE fmily swap meet. It is our last one while in CA. I packed the Uhaul all day yesterday. The poor girls have nothing left! :rotfl:

I will add this to the website, just send me the details. :thumbsup2

I am with you. That would be perfection.

:thumbsup2

Ok off to make some money selling all of over stuff! I will update the webite later when I get back. If anyone else wants to be added to the roll call please email your stuff to me.

Thanks!!! :thumbsup2

you can walk right through the parking lot to Kelsey's. It tends to be crowded. Now I wish we were staying there to meet everyone, but we are using points at AKL.

Kelsey's was good. there is also a Greek restaurant on the other side, McDonald's across the street and a subway within walking distance.

figures the time we do not stay at the Radisson there will be a shuttle launch. Be sure to sign up as soon as you cna for the shuttle to the port. It fills up quickly.

We will NOT be getting off in Cozumel if this outbreak continues. DCL would be smart to change ports because very few will get off with this concern. We booked the dolphin swim through DCL, so will cancel that when it gets closer and book somewhere else.

The NYC cases have been confirmed as Swine Flu. Those HS students were in CANCUN 2 weeks ago for Spring Break. I know that Cozumel is a little more isolated, but being so near to Cancun and the number of people who possibly would travel by ferry to/from each location definitely increases the chances of it spreading to Cozumel. I hope that DCL cancels the Cozumel port.

I wonder if DCL cancels Cozumel if we could switch our dophin swim to their GC location? Dolphin Discovery opended a new site there recently. But then we might not be able to do the Pirate cruise. May just have to eat a 10% loss.

I am hoping the same thing.

Statement just 22 min. ago:
WASHINGTON – The U.S. declared a public health emergency Sunday to deal with the emerging new swine flu, much like the government does to prepare for approaching hurricanes.

Officials reported 20 U.S. cases of swine flu in five states so far, with the latest in Ohio and New York. Unlike in Mexico where the same strain appears to be killing dozens of people, cases in the United State have been mild — and U.S. health authorities can't yet explain why.

"As we continue to look for cases, we are going to see a broader spectrum of disease," predicted Dr. Richard Besser, acting chief of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "We're going to see more severe disease in this country."

At a White House news conference, Besser and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano sought to assure Americans that health officials are taking all appropriate steps to minimize the impact of the outbreak.

Top among those is declaring the public health emergency. As part of that, Napolitano said roughly 12 million doses of the drug Tamiflu will be moved from a federal stockpile to places where states can quickly get their share if they decide they need it. Priority will be given to the five states with known cases so far: California, Texas, New York, Ohio and Kansas.

Napolitano called the emergency declaration standard operating procedure — one was declared recently for the inauguration and for flooding. She urged people to think of it as a "declaration of emergency preparedness."

"Really that's what we're doing right now. We're preparing in an environment where we really don't know ultimately what the size of seriousness of this outbreak is going to be."
