6/13/2009 Western on Magic- Our Cruise Chat Continues!

As several have mentioned, rain is a normal occurrence in Florida on a daily basis. It is also the same way around the Caribbean as well. When looking at weather.com, it shows "scattered showers" on Saturday and Sunday, for Port Canaveral and Key West. I take this to mean the typical short afternoon showers that Florida gets. While it says "showers" for Cozumel and Grand Cayman next week, I think its a little early for anything close to an accurate forecast. These can change a dozen times between now and then. Even the Florida forecast are likely to change some over the next few days. All we can do is hope and pray and make the best of what ever we get!! :goodvibes

Thank you Ben for your reassurances!!! I have been thinking about the weather all day, wondering if anyone ever really had a washout for weather on a cruise...??:confused3 No way, right??? I am really looking forward to SUN and FUN!!!!

OK, and here's a couple questions for you veteran cruisers!!

What do I carry my beer and/or liquor on in? Just a duffle bag or whatever, as long as it is soft-sided?

Also any recommendations for motion sickness medications (over the counter)? What is the best one? DH gets deathly seasick and even though he didn't have any problems on the one other cruise we took, I just want to be prepared!! We are in the very front of the ship and I have heard it can get to rocking! Just don't want DH to be sick!!!

Thanks!!! Talk to you all later this evening...as I am packing, I will need a break now and then!! :goodvibes

Ahem! Ladies....thought of another question....

How many tops are you bring for yourself (just for the cruise portion of the trip for those of you who are extending before/after)?

Thanks for your input! I am trying not to over/under pack...I have done both in the past...not good! I would rather over pack a little than under pack though....

Thanks in advance for any/all input!! :cutie:

I just wanted to wish you all a safe and Magical vacation :thumbsup2 I am so excited for you and I hope you all have a great time :cool1::banana::woohoo::yay::dance3:

Nikki--don't forget to have a drink in my memory ;)

Sorry I can't be there :sad1:

I get motion sick pretty easily also. We have found for me the Less Drowsy Dramamine works well. I have never gotten severely motion sick on any of the 4 cruises we have been on, but I have have a few bouts of light motion sickness with slight nausea. When this happens I take 2 of the Less Drowsy Dramamine and about 45 minutes later it all clears up. I also take 2 before we fly each time. If I don't, I get very motion sick from the flight. This mixed with the fact that I hate to fly is not a good combination and causes Fran to want to strangle me by the time we land. We have found that the Dramamine is a great "marital aide" for our marriage in these situations :rolleyes1.

The Less Drowsy Formula Dramamine contains Meclizine HCl 25 mg.

I have a nagging feeling that I am going to forget something... I will probably pack & re-pack my suitcase twice. I dislike having to bring toiletries but we are picky.

Motion sickness ~ I heard Bonine is really good. I plan on getting some @ Walgreen's prior to leaving. I got a little seasick on our first cruise & Jayde on our 2nd.

Beer/alcohol/pop ~ I am bringing a soft cooler bag that I found @ Sam's club.

Off to re-check my suitcase....

My DH Rob also gets motion sickness.... HE can't even watch our kids play video games without feeling queasy. And imagine he owns a boat:lmao: So he fishes and gets sick and fishes some more until his meds work:rotfl2:...Last cruise he did not come and the time before he was pretty ill the first few days so I am hoping to have some meds in him before we leave port this time:thumbsup2

Here are the entertainers scheduled to be onboard:

Hi Beth,

It's almost here!! :)

Yes, please see the list below:

Ricky Kalmen - Hypnotist

Randy Cabral - Juggler

Rich Pupera - Comedy

Kevin Johnson - Ventriloquist

Once you get onboard they will let you know what nights the

different entertainers will perform

We have seen Rich Pupura--has anyone seen any of the others?

Hope they are all good. I saw good and bad here about the hypnotist--hope it isn't all a set up with people in the audience. I think the best we ever saw was Mike Super, the magician who won phenomenon. We also lover Gary Delena, who has not ben on for a while. When we were on RC we saw John Pinnette. I laughed so hard I was crying. DCL always seems to get jugglers and ventriloquests, I guess because of the kids.

I have my clothes out, but hope to cut out some things since I always over pack. At least the suitcases are out now.

we have been lucky so far to never get sea sick on any of our cruises. Three years ago on the NYE cruise it was cold and bad seas and you were literally bouncing off walls. That was the closest I ever came--had a bad headache. I get motion sick just in a car so I feel lucky the ship's motion does not bother me.

from what I've read the menus are partially out already-so we'll just have to see what we get next week.

I am so anxious to see who our servers are-that can make such a big difference in your experience

I have taken Bonine and Less drowsy Dramine. Both worked fine. I give my son Kids Bonine as he gets pretty sick in the car. I did buy something new to try at Walmart - it was all natural drops you put behind your ears. I have no idea if it will work and am a little afraid to try it instead of the meds, but we'll see.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing I can say is if you even think you will get motion sickness, take the medication before you even get on the ship. I've always seen so many sick people the first night of the cruise...NOT a good way to start the vacation.

Everything I have heard/read about has said the same thing.

Big  to all of you! Please don't go near any confirmed cases of swine flu lest you get the chance of getting denied boarding :sad2: (I know they ask about recent illnesses, fever, vomiting but they might have recently added questions about exposure!)

On seasickness, I plan on giving DD Claritin-D every day prophilatically (how's that for a $3 word at 5am?). I've read that works well as it also deals with the same areas of the brain that control seasickness. She was GREEN  one night in the Med when the swells were running 8-10ft. I gave her dramamine then and she was OUT in 30 minutes. As is DONE for the evening. Which may have been a good thing (and I'll certainly keep that in mind for future occassions.... :rolleyes1) but I thought it was too strong. I also have some Kid Strength Bonine which is supposed to be more mild. Fortunately she's good until pretty strong seas. As for me, I don't care, except I'll equilibrate on the ship and then step foot on dry land and THEN I'll start to sway & rock.

Ok, so my friend came over last night for my homemade enchiladas and says to me, "hey, I thought you were going to try to lose a couple of pounds before the cruise? looks like that's not working." He has this problem with honesty. Seriously. :lmao:

On shirts - I vacillate between under and overpacking. The closer to the cruise you pack the more you will overpack as you tend to just throw things in "just in case." By the night before you leave you'll be cramming in more "just in cases" until you can't even close your suitcase. While I believe in the aforementioned comment about "no one is going to remember you wore those pants three days ago" (SO TRUE) I also know that If I don't have some kind of idea in my head about what I am going to wear I will overpack. (Stephanie has a great planning chart on the website to help with this.)

I think the biggest challenge is the sheer number of times in a day that you can change outfits on a cruise. Wake up and put on something to get coffee in and take a walk around the ship at the crack of dawn (that's me at least), come back and get decent and change into something to go to breakfast in, find bathing suit for the day for at sea/excursion, spend the day and come back and then shower and change for dinner, or shower and slip on shorts again for show then come back to change for dinner then come back and take off dress and put on jeans for adult entertainment. You can, as women, go through multiple changes in one day!!!

Anyhow, time to start my day. So much to do to get ready to take next week off!!

Have a great day everyone.

Our prayers are with you & your family!

As for clothes, I have enough shirts for each day, plus dinner clothes. I do wear a skirt/pants 2 nights with different shirts.

I got everything packed up yesterday, except for the things we'll need until we leave. I'll have to throw that stuff in on Thursday morning.

Hope I can make it until then. Between thinking of my BIL & this vacation, I haven't been able to sleep worth a crap. Maybe once on the ship! :)

Have a good day all!
