6/13/2009 Western on Magic- Our Cruise Chat Continues!

I know my DD13 (Megan) wants to get to know her fellow teen cruisers better (Kaitlyn, Larry and Megan that I know of!!!) but she has just been so involved in her school and activities lately she just hasn't had time to do much of anything else!! As school winds down and the cruise gets closer, I know she will jump on the board and talk to everyone!!! So don't forget about us!!! :goodvibes

Hey Diane (Larry's mom) I know we are directly 2 decks above you I think (we are in 7501) so it will be easy for us to find you!!! :cool2:

I will try to post more soon!!! I want to get to know everyone!!!

Hi Andrea,
I have a DD13, Morgan (who WAS going to be named Megan right up until the moment of birth at which point I sprung it on DEX that I preferred Morgan... and at that time he really couldn't object after seeing what I had just gone through :woohoo:)

We are in the Cabin NEXT TO Diane & Larry, 5505, so you can find Morgan & Larry in one easy spot

Have DD PM me her email and I will have DD reply

Donna

I did not know the TAs had that info-I'll have to call.
Is that the third time? I asked for 5:45--somehow we are always last getting out of dinneer and hoped by going with the middle time we would not be late for anything right after dinner. We started telling them we need to be done to go to this show and it seemed to work somewhat better for us.

I read that early seating was 5:30,5:45 & 6:00.. our TA called Disney, they told her what we had.

I also have a DD (13) anyone of the kids that want to talk, PM me,too with email. I'm sure she would like to talk to everyone

I saw XS in girls bathing suits at Hollister this past wkend, not sure about the boys, thou.

BethA.... I used to work at a medical supply company, in my experience, the motorized wheelchairs were harder to operate than the scooters.
thanks

now I have to decide whether to go with the scooter-and worry about her manuevering it and where to leave it or get a regular wheelchair and have her limited in not going anywhere herself-this is relatively new to us so I am confused--thanks for the info-I had thought the motorized might go right through the cabin doors, but they said nowhen I called today

Wooohooo!! They just called DH and told him to come back to work on May 14th instead of June 1st!!! This will definitely help with cruise preparations!!!!!!

It's my second cruise and we also got the category 9. Seems a lot of us with 2 cabins were assigned to the 2nd level.

I don't think they have any rhyme or reason to assigning cabins. I'm a programmer, if they'd like I could probably come up with an alogrithm that would fill the ship weighing who paid the most, who signed up first, how many cruises they'd been on, along with the number of cabins, capacity, desirability of location etc.... lol.

But my guess is it's some poor smuck who just has a schematic of the boat and tries to fit people in based on room capacities and to the best of their ability keep people together with their travel companions.

I look at it this way. I paid for a 12. If I got a 12 I got what I paid for...anything better is just cake.

I try everyday I live to be thankful for what I have. It reminds me of a lesson I once learned years ago. I was in the Dairy Queen. My 3 kids were fighting, driving me nuts! I was having a pity party, what did I do to deserve this? Along raising my 3 rotten kids. Then I looked over to the next table and saw this woman. She was spoon feeding her son ice cream. He must have been about 10. He was in a wheel chair, unable to even control his body to feed himself. I felt like I'd been hit over the head with a 2 by 4. Then I thought about how stupid I was and how thankful I should be. That night I went home and thanked God for my maybe my not so rotten kids and my not so bad life. Whenever I want to have me a pity party I think back to that day.
That is a really sweet story. thanks for sharing that with me.

motorized wheelchairs are a bit bigger than regular ones, maybe that is why they won't fit through the door? Does your Mom need a wheelchair or just can't walk for long periods? There is this walker type thing that is avaliable that has a seat & a basket.. maybe that would be an option?

We are bringing Rees' wheelchair for him. They can push around together!

AWESOME NEWS! :thumbsup2

I agree with the pain part. I said I get the 1st names, I had the pain, you can pick the middle names..:rotfl:

I did not hear about the Marines with swine flu-was it on the news?

So stephanie have you decided to stick with the deck 1 room? Is there anything available you would prefer since your other rooms are gone? In WDW we always seem to geet the worst room----farthest walk in the hotel, view of garbage, etc. So it is no fun to be disappointed.

When will we decide about adding more FE--I will have to see if I can get the same thing again-or start with a new idea?

I wouldn't have minded the view of the garbage that would have been luxury. In my room at the pop, a cockroach ran down the wall and into the air conditioner vent. I kept telling myself, it's Florida, it's Florida, to them it's like an ant in the house.
:rotfl:

Yes there were a couple Marines here in CA.

For now I am just sticking with the Deck 1. At this point I do not have any other options other then paying more then I originally was paying. I can't get any CAT 11's next to each or even near each other. Some CAT 10's opened on Deck 2 late last night. DCL is REFUSING to switch us to them. They were not even near each other but are still refusing.

A little background on my mom. She was burnt in a fire and is scared from her neck down. She has mobitlity issues. Her favorite place is the drink station on Deck 9 and just hanging out in the room. She loves dinner and she loves the shows. Aft elevators are VERY important to her. She can't walk that much on Deck 9 bc it is too slippery. That is my biggest complaint about deck 1...just that it does not connect to the aft elevators. She has to cross where there is carpet so it is just going to be very inconvient to her. DCL could care less.

I talked to a supervisor for 30 minutes today. I told her that rules are rules and I understand they "cant" move us. I told her that I was calling to express my frustrations with the CAT 12 process....not the assigning of the rooms, just the face that you can't do ANYTHING about what they give you. When booking online they do not tell you that you are booking a GTY and that you get what you get and there is NOTHING you can do about it. If I did not know any better, I could have logged on, saw a great rate on a CAT 12 which is on Deck 2 and booked it. I would have gotten the note that said GTY and we will assign you a cabin later. Then when I get the cabin what if there is a problem for some reason...SORRY NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT. I know how the system works but what about people who don't. I told them that when hotels have really good deals they tell you... you have to pre pay, no cancelations, etc..... With the CAT unless you know the game DCL is playing then you can potentially be VERY unhappy. If you do not have the DIS Boards then how are you supposed to know????????? Just because you get a discount you turn into a 2nd class citizen. I am VERY happy with my 10. I actually prefer the set up of a 10 to ANY other CAT 4-12. I HATE walking into the bed and would much rather have the sitting area first. Would I love a window sure, but I also really LOVE the setup of the 10. We get double steamer trunks which only come in CAT 10's and 4's. They don't even come in the SPH 10's bc they were tech CAT 8's when the ship was built. We get the split bath which I am happy to have. The one thing I don't like about CAT11's is the orientation of the bed. You rock head to toe instead of side to side. It took some getting used to on the TA. The beds in the 10 are oriented so you rock side to side.

Ok, off my soap box and to answer your question we are staying on deck 1 and I am going to LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT! :lmao:

I read that early seating was 5:30,5:45 & 6:00.. our TA called Disney, they told her what we had.

That is what DCL said when I called but those who just cruised said it was only 2 times now. :confused3

Wooohooo!! They just called DH and told him to come back to work on May 14th instead of June 1st!!! This will definitely help with cruise preparations!!!!!!

Great! :thumbsup2

DH tells me today that the unit he is training with this week has one of the Marines with Swine Flu. So I guess I did not have to go to Mexico to get it, I can just spend some time with my husband! :scared1: :lmao:
That's not good. We actually heard on the news here that there was 9 Marines in CA with it, Larry said "I hope that is not Craig."

That is what DCL said when I called but those who just cruised said it was only 2 times now.

Hmm.. that is crazy! Guess I'll be surprised! I can't remember from past cruises, is the dinning time on our documents when they come?

Wanted to also chime in about being thankful.... As a case manager/psychologist I have a very diverse caseload of children with special needs to include everything under the sun.. I work with families dealing with genetic disorders, cancer, delays from accidents, abuse and neglect, and many other things that would take pages to list.

Everyday I am excited that my three children and My husband and I are able to even go on vacation :woohoo: and come back to a home and food and the ability to make it in today's society. For anyone worried about making it special for your children honestly as a child psychologist I can say that how you respond to situations will greatly affect their experiences and if you think something is fabulous then they will feel your joy:yay:

Hello everyone!! :wave2: I am sorry I am not more active on this thread! I just can't keep up!!! I try to skim through every day and see what you peeps are talkin about... :surfweb: my office filters out websites with discussion boards and even though I have a way to get through the filter, I am always afraid I am going to get in trouble!:headache:!! So anyway, that is my reason for not being more active here!!

I read the discussion yesterday (last night?) about the FE gifts.... it is fine with me if you assign me a day in order to space things out. Just let me know!

I know my DD13 (Megan) wants to get to know her fellow teen cruisers better (Kaitlyn, Larry and Megan that I know of!!!) but she has just been so involved in her school and activities lately she just hasn't had time to do much of anything else!! How is the end of 8th grade going for Larry?? It is stressful right now for Megan! She has been quite out of sorts lately .... we will really need this vacation by the time it gets here!!!! :cool2:

I will try to post more soon!!! I want to get to know everyone!!!

YES please do not forget I also have Layne who is 14 and in the 8th grade.... He just doesn't know about the cruise yet. For those who have kiddos his age thought maybe you could share some info about him... He loves his computer of course but also plays the Saxophone and plays Soccer. His honor English class has him on Pins and needles right now and he gets easily discouraged with this particular teacher! I really hope all the teens can click with him and I hope I have not prevented him from forming bonds but the surprise is soooo much fun!
:rolleyes1

I don't think it is a matter of being grateful and now apparently my adult panties are getting in a bunch!

I have a DD with special needs, I have another daughter who was a victim of a crime, I have a husband who survived 29 months in Iraq (unlike his two best friends who did not make it home :sad1:), I have a mother you survived years of physical and metal abuse and living with the scars to prove it.

Again I think it is easy to say I would have been happy with "whatever" when you got WAY better then "whatever".

My DD's don't read the DIS boards. Did I tell them how disappointed I was NO, I told a group of adults. This is a surprise birthday cruise for them. I am NOT going to say surprise we are going on a cruise but mom is so disappointed we did not get better rooms! Come on, give me some more credit then that.

WOW Stephanie yikes! If this is towards me let me chime in that my comment was stated to the previous one about having healthy children and by healthy I mean functional considering My son has been battling immunity problems since birth and has had surgeries and coded FTT more than once.... Who hasn't had a hard life ... My sister died when I was six and she was four... My favorite Aunt died of Cancer at age 41 and My Mother and My Grandfather just passed away within a six month span!!! My Mother died at age 54 from an massive heart attack:sad1:
I have taken my children on Disney Cruises and NEVER have I had an upgrade to an outside stateroom until this time and I was not even referring to Cabin issues but only about the current state of our society and the stress that comes with it. My husband was stationed in Korea and missed our sons birth years ago and missed many special moments but I don't know why any of this is relevant to expressing my gratefulness for being able to soon be on vacation.:confused3
How you felt my comment was directed to you I am not sure:eek:

This is how I felt it was directed towards me. I felt that you were saying me being diappointed will effect my children. I bare a whole load every day having nothing to do with this cruise to keep from my children.

If I took it the wrong way I am sorry. I just can't handle when someone tells me how to feel. If I want to be disappointed then let me be diappointed.

I just feel like you putting a title to yourself is somehow making those of us who are disappointed like we are wronging our children.
