6/13/2009 Western on Magic- Our Cruise Chat Continues!

Am I understanding that we (DH & I) have to go along with them? I didn't think they would even let you? Maybe I should contact them.

Ever since seeing a news report, I think it was 48 hours, on parasailing and the video they showed of people getting killed doing it, it's just one thing I've crossed off my list of things I don't want to do and won't let my children to do. There's just something that seems out of control to me. Putting my life in the hands of people, and even if they are good and responsible, you are still at the mercy of the wind. One story was about a 10 year old boy and another about 2 teenage girls, all killed when the wind suddenly increased and their ropes snapped.

Of course the things I let my daughter do tumbling and on a trampoline would probably make many of you raise your eyebrows... and are probably even more prone to danger....

Anyway, just make sure you read about and understand the dangers and make an informed decision, and not just look at the glossy pictures.

Off soapbox... (please, please don't anyone take offense, I just felt compelled to post, and I am in no way trying to judge)

Hi all!! :wave2:

OK, I am sorry to change the subject....hope you don't mind... but I have been thinking about the almost 14 year olds (those who are not within 30 days of turning 14...as in my DD who turns 14 on August 22) and The Stack.... I know she has her heart set on going there... I know I have read other threads where people said they are not that strict about enforcing the age.. of course DCL has her birthdate in our reservation. This is our first Disney cruise and our first cruise of any kind with our kids.. I don't know what all you have to do when you check in... is that where she would be told which group she would be in? Can anyone kind of describe the process to me? I just don't want there to be any surprises for her...or us.. know what I mean?? I am hoping they sort of leave it up to us ...but maybe not?? :confused3

My DD is 13, will be 14 on 9/1. I know this has been a much discussed topic on the main thread. Disney's site is still saying 13-17 for the stack, if it weren't for the Disboard I would have been going off of that. Therefore, my DD is going to try & go to the stack. She has wanted to since we were on our last cruise. I asked a lady last week about this same situation, she was just on the ship.. she had 13 & 14yo's...she said the 13yo's didn't have a problem, she said the CM never asked their age. Hope this helps!

Oh goodness, I'm with you! I'm super paranoid & very protective. My DH on the hand is more laid back & go with the flow. There in lies the problem! He says they will be fine & I can't 'baby' her all her life!!! On a side note, my DD was with her friend in Mexico last year, her parents let them parasail, so now they want to do it again.

That's what they emailed to me. Did they ask ages when you signed up on line? I emailed them DS's age - 12 at time of excursion. And I would want to be out on the boat with DS when he does it anyway. Just not crazy about going up myself. And if its windy that day, def don't want him doing it. :scared1:

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you register kids for the Stack. My DD turns 14 Sept 25th and also has her heart set on going there. I already let her know about the one month out rule, but I've also heard from other veteran cruisers that 13 yr olds have been allowed in esp if they have other friends who they'll be hanging with who are 14 or older. And I'm sure maturity level plays a big part. So I'm in the dark too, sort of. I just plan on letting her go up, and if there's a problem, she'll hang out elsewhere. She's going into 9th grade and she's very mature, so I feel comfortable sending her there.

Hi, all. Had a bad am. When I was leaving work a big black SUV parked behind me in the parking lot with its lights off and engine off. They must have pulled up while I was putting my badge, etc up and looking down. ETA: she was illegally parked in the MIDDLE of the main entrance/road blocking people coming in and me, but as the moving vehicle it is still my fault. In the pitch black with no lights, I never saw them and backed into her TIRE. Well, my bumper at 2mph (great safety) is crumpled on the corner. She was completely freaking out over her TIRE which didn't even have a mark on it (not even a rub). Then she starts with "I just bought these tires, what if my rim if bent". I was completely polite and kept saying I was glad she wasn't hurt, I was sorry, etc. She on the other hand was not polite and very rude. Police wouldn't come for a minor thing, so I took a TON of pics with my phone and gave her my name/cell phone. My pics all show a perfect tire, no damage, no scratches, etc. I just hope she has calmed down today and realizes that it was an accident and her car and tire and rim are perfect. Pray she's not one of those people who will make a mountain out of a mole hill! It was not the way to end my work shift, especially after a long night with some super sick babies (one is only 25 weeks).

Find out in the next 40 minutes if I work tonight. If I do, then I'm off tomorrow night. DS has flag football (last game) in the am. Then hopefully church and out for lunch Sunday for Mother's Day.

What's everyone doing this weekend?:goodvibes

Nikki - i am so going to miss this from you after the cruise. :rotfl2:

My girlfriend's husband is throwing her a surprise 30th birthday party. So I will be doing that on Saturday. So that should be fun. And cruise packing :rotfl:

Denise,
sorry about your "bump"/accident, but didn't this woman take any responsbility for pulling up behind you? Seriously, I wonder how people get all worked up about cars or "things"... I have often had a discussion with DD about what we would do in the event of a fire or emergency or various scenarios. In all she always freaks and asks about the stuff (what would we take) and the cats (what if we couldn't find them) and my response is always, "we can get more stuff, we can even adopt another cat, but you can't replace people." (not that I don't love my 2 cats and wouldn't try to find them, but they'd be under a bed somewhere in an emergency!)

I guess it's a long winded way of telling this woman to get over herself and to start worrying about more important things, like that poor little 25 week old, bless his/her heart. Be strong little one!

Sending you a :grouphug: and hoping that the bumper can be fixed easily/cheaply.

No, she took no responsibility. She even said very sarcastically "didn't you see me?" to which I said "If I had, I wouldn't have hit you." :sad2: She must have looked at her stupid tire 100 times. My poor little Camry (1988) which sits so low to the ground hit her big Jeep something (huge SUV). My bumper barely made it to her tire my car was so much smaller! :rotfl:DH wants to know what kind of super strength tires she had to cause so much damage to our bumper and none to her tire. We won't fix it. Car has 180,000 miles and is my "work" car as it has been dinged a million times in the parking deck.

LOL- I think I'm just nosy!! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Have fun!!;)

DS wants to do the parasailing, but he is also amanant about not going up with mom. And mom is too chicken to go up anyway! I have emailed Fury several times for diferent questions: here is their response about weight, solo flying, and me going as observer only. When you guys booked on line, did you have to pay full fare even if you are not parasailing to be on the boat with your kids?

We recommend children weight 50 lbs to parasail. The children will have to fly with an adult. Our parasailing and snorkeling boats are conveniently located on the same dock (Pier B) as where the Disney ship docks. You will literally be just steps away from us. Please view www.furykeywest.com to view our trips and book online at a 10% discount. Enjoy your cruise. Debbie
If the wind is light he can fly alone. If it is a very windy day he will need to have someone fly with him. Regardless, an adult must be on the trip with him.
Debbie

If something changes you have until 24hrs prior to the departure to cancel with a full refund.
Riders are welcome on the boat space available for $10. Riders can not be booked in advance, they must be booked at check in time if the space permits.
Thank you for thinking of Fury,
Debbie

The Disney ship docks at Pier B, which is the dock our snorkeling and parasailing boats leave from.
You'll literally be just steps away!
Debbie

I was told this same thing when I contacted Fury. Two of my kids want to parasail, one will stay on land w/DH..I'll ride on the boat and watch the other two, but we'll have to wait for the day to make sure there will be enough room for me to ride or else it's a no go for my kids :-(

Thanks Taina!
I just hadn't heard anyone spell out exactly how it is handled there! I feel more confident now about Megan going there...along with Kaitlyn, Larry, Morgan, Megan....sorry if I forgot anyone !!!! They are going to have a blast!!! :cool1::cool1:

There will be 5 of us going to Chakkanaab in Cozumel. DD and DS are doing the royal swim at 3:30pm. We are looking forward to the park and all it has to offer! We plan to snorkel there too. We're bringing our own snorkel gear (minus fins - we'll rent those there) to save on cost. :goodvibes

My dd and I are doing the Royal Swim at noon. We too are bringing our own gear so we can snorkel before the dolphins. Especially for my daughter, having a mask and snorkel that really fit make a huge difference. Its a paid in the you-know-what to pack, but since we'll also be snorkeling in Grand Cayman and C.C., its worth it.

This weekend I have an 18 yr class reunion (who has an 18 yr one?!?) And then Mother's Day brunch w/family on Sunday. Other than that... put together the FE gifts.

And watching the Wings beat the Ducks....
