I've tried to read most threads and 'searched' using certain terms. I hope my post is not redundant....

We camped at Fort Wilderness for the first time in January. Our biggest frustration (I say "our" - it was really the dh's but I got to experience the grumbling...) was getting the fifth wheel into our spot.

We have a 35' trailer pulled by a Ford F350 extended cab. Our problem came with an across the loop neighbor who had a similar length trailer already in place with a large truck in front of their trailer. It was tough to back it in with the neighbors in place.

In your experience are there loops that are better than others for such things? Are there times that tend to be better for checking in? With a 1pm check in time I assume (incorrectly?) that we could not have checked in early with the hopes our neighbors would be home. (We kept thinking that if our neighbor was enjoying a park there was a good chance we were stuck without getting into our spot until they returned home to move their truck.)

Any suggestions for next time?:rolleyes1

We had a similar problem 2 years ago. When you check in doesn't seem to matter if the guy across the road is already there. We checked in early and this guy's truck was sticking out into the roadway. I managed to get the trailer in, but if I had any bigger trailer I would have been looking for another site. And this guy never seemed to be around.

All I can think of is to check it out as soon as you drive over and then call the front desk if you have a problem or if it looks like you will have a problem. I don't see how they would be able to tell ahead of time if another vehicle is blocking you.

I called from the comfort station, I think because I didn't have the number for the front desk. We called to see if we could move over a bit away from the comfort station (right next to us) but they said the sites nearby were being kept vacant so they could do tree/canal work (which they didn't, but anyway).

Bummer ....

I would have a hard time parking a 35' 5er in a open parking lot..:lmao:

Best advice is not to be afraid to ask for help from your neighbors....

This is a more common problem with all the larger rvs using the fort these days.....

Just got back. We were lucky as our lot was on the curve so I turned the corner and then backed straight in. :thumbsup2

On our last trip I just backed in first try, and this was first. Our site was also on a curve and we were lucky. The trip was in the 300 loop, but the trip before that was in the 800 loop and I thought we were never going to get in and it took about 45 min. I asked for a special site on our next trip but they did not put on our reservation. I guess its the luck of the draw.
