5th Park at WDW

I always like the Dark Kingdom idea. Having a park for the villians of Disney that is aimed at the older demographics.

But DHS needs some additions especially given how hot Marvel and the Stars Wars are at the moment. DHS should basically be Disney's version of Universal Studios.

That stinks lol. I just smile and be interested with what they say no matter how wacky it is. I never want to be rude or disrespectful since they just transported me for free across the resort. =p

Not saying anyone should be rude but...

driver didn't transport you for free. He got paid. Disney transported you for free.

5th Gate: Disney Whirled: Will only consist of Teacups, Astro Orbiter, Dumbo and the like.

Technically yes, but he was the one driving so I didn't want to be rude. Plus I don't like being rude to people period unless they just have to be told something in a more rude way.

If I were one of those bus drivers, I would be making up the most ridiculous rumors just to see how far they would go on the forums. It has to get boring driving back and forth between two points for hours. You have to entertain yourself somehow.

I agree they need to work on the other three parks before thinking about a 5th park which I think most of us can agree isn't coming anytime soon.

They need a 5th park to thin the crowds. I have heard for years about an all villains park.

Obviously the people at Disney are smarter than me and do actual studies to back up their decisions, but I just don't see how a 5th park couldn't be successful when you consider how crowded the parks are even with a failing economy. The extra day (at least) from people staying in hotels, the different demographic you could bring in by building a park aimed at adults. Even people who visit both Disney and Universal still choose to stay in Disney even during their Universal days. Why not build your own universal type park (or turn HS into more of a Universal type park), and build Disney's version of a Cedar Point? Yeah yeah, I know. I don't know what I'm talking about and it would never work. That's not what Disney is about.

This has been really interesting for me, in the UK we don't really get a lot of 5th park chat.
I guess for me, like the majority in this thread I really want to see improvements to the existing parks.
I think more shows should be added, like Fantasmic, I have been going to WDW for 15+ years and that is still a favourite of mine. I know we get Fireworks (whack I also adore) but I really enjoy the theatricality of Fantasmic and would like to see more.
HS is DESPERATE for an expansion and update. We love it as a family but really on the whole don't spend longer than 4 hours there in one go.
As a mother to both a boy and girl, I also feel we need more 'boy' stuff. I know there is a fair amount but I am thinking more about the character dines etc. There are 2 princess dines and plenty of gender neutral but how about a pixar dine? or pirate banquet?
I don't know, I'm no imagineer but I do think the next 10 years will see big changes at WDW and I can't wait.

They're due for it. Compared to everyone else, the attendance has hardly changed at all in the past 6 years.

....... Is that serious? in 2010 when the boy wizard showed, he single handedly caused attendance to skyrocket. Without that universal would be struggling to stay afloat... Then the transformers ride caused a boost in attendance, minions, and the list goes on. All these new attractions have caused significant boosts in attendance. Look at the numbers from 2009 compared to now and it's staggering.

There's no need to build a multibillion dollar theme park to thin crowds. All Disney has to do keep increasing the prices until fewer people can afford it.

I think you're saying this jest, but there's some truth to it. Compare it to a running a restaurant.

Lets say a small restaurant in a town and you're doing really well...always a wait for tables, etc. (just using made-up numbers here, I know nothing about the restaurant industry) If you profited $10,000 per seat per year and you have 100 seats, you're profiting $1,000,000/year.

Then you say "hey, we're busy, lets expand". It will cost you $300,000 to add an addition that will add 20 sears, resulting in an extra $200,000 per year.

There's no reason to do that until you first see if your customers will pay an extra 10% or so (since a price increase incurs no additional costs), without losing visitors. If so, then you've made that extra $200,000 without spending anything.

No, I wasn't really joking.

Or how about this idea, if Disney wants 5 parks maybe they can split Epcot into 2 parks: Future World and World Showcase. Of course they'd have to beef up each part with a few new attractions, but it'd still be a heck of a lot cheaper than building an entirely new park.

P.S. I'm joking here. Sort of.

The only problem with that reasoning is that the non-MK parks aren't "crowded". MK is on fire...the rest remain half -empty on average.

Exactly, this is why the other parks need investing before they go to make a 5th. Eventually they will make another theme park at WDW. It may be a few decades, but it will happen.

I absolutely agree. There is absolutely no demand for a 5th gate when 3 of your parks are withering and dying. Animal Kingdom is looking to get a huge boost...but that's not until 2017! I shudder to think what the attendance at DHS and EPCOT will dwindle to when they finally get something major added to them or are transformed in some way.:scared:

I don't think Epcot will have too much trouble as long as they continue to run their festivals. This is their big draw. You take away the food and wine festival then we might have a problem....a serious problem. People seem to look past the empty buildings and dated rides when they are full of food and wine. (Especially wine)

Like some others were saying, before they start a 5th park they need to work on the other parks first. AK is getting Avatar, DHS needs to build Carsland like the one in DCA. That new ride revitalized that park. DHS needs to have more rides other than Rockin and Tower of terror and Star Tours. There is not much drawing people into that park.

DHS I believe will get Star Wars before they get cars land most car rumors have died down now. Bob Iger has said that they are working on adding more Star Wars to their parks.

I think the best improvements that could be made to DHS are a Star Wars Land and more use of the Hollywood theme.

The Great Movie Ride is a fantastic idea for a ride, and their existing Hollywood areas are really nice to have a look around. A second classic themed ride and an expansion of the Hollywood look could help improve the park further.
