This was taken from the roof of the contemporary on Monday (looking away from MK). The other three parks are clearly visible in the area to the right of this pic, so it not anything to do with them. Is it a 5th gate or possibly not even on Disney property at all? It is really large whatever it is!

We know that it's not a 5th Gate, for sure.

Is that possibly around where they are building the new non-Disney resort just off of Bay Lake? It's stated that it will have MK views but the actual location is on the far side of Bay Lake and Fort Wilderness.

One thing is most definitely is not is a fifth gate.

Thanks for the responses. I'm probably the oddball here, but I think we don't just need to be looking at a "fifth gate", but also possibly a "sixth gate" (does that word work in that situation?). But, in any case, agree with the other posters. If it was a new park, we would likely know about it.

5th gate would be a 5th park. A 5th gate is one of those common rumors dis people love to speculate on (and hope for).

It must be the Four Seasons. It seems to be about a mile behind bay lake tower. Here is a zoomed out image of the construction

I agree there needs to be a large expansion at WDW, but I think it needs to be in realizing the full potential of the current parks they have. AK is a 3/4 day park that can certainly be fleshed out. DHS could use a few more attractions and a real expansion into the backlot area. And Epcot has two completely empty buildings in future world and room for expansion in the world showcase. Filling out those parks would be much less expensive for management and would really work.

A fifth (or sixth) gate would only feed off the attendance of one of the other four parks since there are only a finite number of vacation days. Make the parks you have better and more filled out.

Yep, location is right on for it from the wide angle.

There will never be a fifth gate ever. There is just not enough time in the standard family vacation to have the need for a fifth gate and I don't see vacations getting any longer any time soon.

Most people coming to WDW can barely fit 4 parks, 2 water parks in one week.

I do see what you are saying. In my opinion, Disney has been building so many resorts, as well as expanding the ones that they have, without really adding to the amusement experience. The parks have stayed the same size and had relatively the same number of attractions. Unfortunately, with more hotels, this means more people are coming to Disney World. With more people in parks with the same number of attractions, you have much larger crowds. My solution was to build more parks with more attractions. The idea of creating more attractions in the existing parks is also a very valid idea.

Personally, I feel that Animal Kingdom has the most room to grow. I wish they would change the name of Dinoland to Pangaea. A simple change, yes, but I feel it would be an excellent one that would expand the education that you can receive at Disney. I would love for them to add in an Australia land, as well as and Antarctica area. Australia could really do some great things with Finding Nemo (hello EAC ride!) and I think people would really love the addition of kangaroos, koalas, wallabys, Tasmanian devils, etc. Antarctica could have a great bobsled ride (maybe something similar to the matterhorn, even and yes, I know that the matterhorn is not Antarctica). I think people would love to see the penguins, as well. Disney advertises that Animal Kingdom is Nahtazu, but I think that that idea is wrong. Disney is known for doing everything better than other parks. Animal Kingdom needs to be the same. RAther than it not being a zoo, it needs to be "Disney Does a Zoo!" With their resources, they could make Sea World and Busch Gardens look Bush league.

I don't know what they are doing with Hollywood Studios. I feel that it needs to really embrace the whole "A Hollywood that never was and always will be" mentality. I think you need to feel like you are walking around the idea of the golden age of Hollywood when you are walking the streets. Sunset Blvd and Hollywood blvd do a wonderful job of this (especially before that horrible hat was constructed that blocks the chinese theater). But then I feel like the rides and attractions need to also embody this mentality, or make you feel like you are in the movie somehow. Indiana Jones, Lights Motor Action, Tower of Terror, and even Great Movie Ride are able to do this. Rock N Roller Coaster fits to a lesser degree. Backlot Tour worked before they decided to royally screw it up. But then you have other things that don't seem to fit. Toy Story Midway Mania is one of these. I'm not really sure where it would fit, though. I guess you could move it to MK in Fantasyland, but I'm not sure it really fits there. Plus there is the problem of DHS not really having enough attractions as is.

Wow, I am rambling and off topic. In any case, I am sure that the picture isn't showing a fifth gate, but if it was, I would love for it to be a Pixar Park for all of our favorite Pixar characters, or a Marvel themed area with many thrill rides. And as long as they are going to have the contractors in, maybe they can make some of the changes that I want in the other parks :thumbsup2

Water roller coaster...with the tracks laid in a curvy tunnel!

One park was more than enough for people back when Disneyland and WDW opened, but that changed over time. So to say there will "NEVER be a fifth gate EVER" is just short sighted.

Disneys goal is to keep people there as long as they can and to get them to come back multiple times, and once the economy bounces back I wager that's exactly what they'll try for.

I agree that five parks and two water parks would be a lot of try and cover in a vacation, and that's the whole point. Disney doesn't want you to cover everything in one trip. They want you to miss some stuff so you'll have a reason to come back again later. Their goal isn't to keep their offerings comfortably within the range of an average family vacation.

As for timeline, I'd agree that we won't see a fifth park anytime soon. The economy just isn't supportive enough for it yet. However once things change (whether that be in five, ten, or fifteen years) I bet you we'll see a fifth park.

But to get back on topic, no way that's a fifth park. Disney is a public company with shareholders. They wouldn't be able to keep a project that big and risky a secret.

I'm going to preface this by saying that I have NO hard attendance numbers to back up my theory, but...

I don't think this is the situation at Disney at all. I don't think attendance numbers are necessarily growing due to the addition of resort rooms. Rather, more guests who would come to Disney anyway are now staying on site. And THIS is Disney's goal right now. It is MUCH more cost-effective to find ways to entice current customers to spend more of their money at Disney than it is to attract new customers.

I agree that I would love to see some major expansion to Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. I think Hollywood Studios needs it more personally. That park for us is so blah. We barely spend anytime there. Now the other three....we revisit those multiple times every trip.

I do admit that I hope at some point they do add a new park and honestly the land is there for it, but I am sure that it will be years before we see that because of the massive expansion they are doing to Fantasyland. That in itself is a multiple year project.
