Oh I'm so sorry to hear this.. I thought for sure it was going to be the lesser of two evils..
Well - at least the doctor feels it's benign - and that's a GREAT thing!
I will definitely say some prayers for you.. By any chance is this the type of thing that can be taken care of with some sort of laser surgery? Seems they use that for most everything nowadays..
Pembo, do they think it's a meningioma? My mother was diagnosed with one on her spinal cord, at the base of her neck (C1 and C2), the Friday before Christmas, and had it removed February 4th. She's doing well, altho it was a slow recovery (she IS 81). My mother had her surgery in Boston, with a neurosurgeon who specializes in spines; another surgeon in the group specializes in brains.
Have you done any research on it? There is such a thing called (I think) Gamma Knife Radiosugery, which stops the growth of the tumor, if it's not causing any problems at the size it's at. It couldn't be used on my mom becuase the tumor was already at a size that was causing major problems (almost 2 years undiagnosed by her now former PCP); if they hadn't been able to remove the whole thing (but they did) they also couldn't use the Gamma Knife Radiography technology because of the location of the tumor...too close to her breathing passage.
Unfortunately, I lost all my bookmarks recently, so I don't have all this information readily available.
Good luck to you, and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Will keep my eyes out for an update. I know how frightening this can be.
