......................

I would have said, "Yes they are." My kids have always known this, but that doesn't stop them from believing in magic.

Actually, this question is making me think. My children have never believed that Disney characters are "real." They know about animation and that the movies are created by adults. So why would they think it was really Aurora greeting them at breakfast or really Mickey Mouse in the parade? They've read about Walt Disney and know how he created the characters. And as I said, that doesn't stop them from thriling at the idea of meeting "Minnie".

The part I'm having trouble with is that my younger two do still believe in Santa, the tooth fairy and the Easter Bunny. So I've just always been straight with them about Disney, while encouraged them to suspend disbelief in "characters" they don't see. Hmm... maybe I have conflicting values. :p

my kids are 10 and they said that awhile ago about all Disney characters, Santa, tooth fairy, Easter Bunny, etc, and all I say is well you can believe whatever you want to, as far as Santa, I said well I believe there is a Santa, but you have a choice, but don't tell your neices, lol..::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo

DS pulled that line on me on our trip last year (he was 5 1/2), only he at first said "why don't their mouths move?" then came "their just in comstumes huh?" *tear* A couple days ago after viewing a commercial he asked if they were real and I asked him the same thing "what do you think?" He said yes because Disneyworld is magic! *happy sigh*

I have a 9 year old that has questioned the characters. I don't confirm or deny....

She started with Santa this past Christmas. All I say is 'that if you don't beleive, he won't come..." and that is all she needed to hear. She is a believer! and was very happy with what Santa brought for her on Christmas Morning.

now the E. Bunny.....

I just want ONE more Christmas!! ;-) I say that every year :)

I would have said exactly what you said :).

Our first trip to Disney my oldest was 8. She knew the characters like Mickey and Minnie) weren't real. But she thought the princesses were. Why would I tell her differently!

My 3 yr old believes that all of them are real, and I hope she stays that way for years to come :).

My kids get the plain truth with an added "but it's fun to pretend" on all of these issues: characters, Santa, tooth fairy, easter bunny etc... They still love playing it all up. In fact, the 6 yo is sure the tooth fairy is real even though he believes all the rest are "fun to pretend" - go figure.

"What would you have said?"

I would have said exactly what you said. I have used the "what do you think" line a lot with my kids! ;)

My daughter was 5 and asked the same thing after our last trip. I asked the same thing you did. She said they were real, so I agreed. I will not lie to her about important things. I would never tell her that storks bring babies, etc. But, Disney, Santa, Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy...I say believe as long as you can. I thought my time was limited. To hear some have made it until 9 gives me hope. I don't see any harm in believing. I think when the day comes, she won't be mad at me for the whole charade. I hope she appreciates all the "magic" I made happen. That won't happen until she is a mom trying to pull of some "magic" of her own.

I Believe!

They really want to believe in the magic! My 8 year-old DD started asking about Santa this past year. Instead of answering outright I tried to find out where this was coming from. Of course it was the boys at school who started that cruel rumor! I was torn, as I hate to lie, but realized that she really was not ready to hear the truth. Agree with the skate around it, what do you believe, answer. She does though now know intellectually that the characters are not real, but I can see that she wants to hold on to that illusion as well.

My youngest is now 5, so in 45 days we will find out where she stands. Hope she still believes!!

My four year old said, "I want to go to the mall and see the guy who dresses like Santa." He also said he doesn't believe Santa could make it to everyone's house in one night.

His six year old brother has never said anything like this.

Kids.
