52-Week Savings Challenge

I do the 52 week plan but I do it backwards.....I have more money in January to save the I do in December with the holidays etc. The last 3 months of the year are crazy for us. So I started this week with putting in 52.00 and will work backwards!

Just a suggestion. Either way you have to put in over 200.00 either in January or December so decide which is best for you!!

Good Luck everyone!

That's a great idea! I started doing the challenge in the beginning of December to give myself a head start. I'll be finished in November, so I think I'll try working it backwards next time. Putting more money into savings will probably help overspending on gifts during the holidays! :woohoo:

I did the challenge in reverse last year and did follow through all year long. I did not miss a week. As I got into December I decided I could do $10 or $20 week instead of $10 for the month so I ended up with more than $1400. It was a great motivator for me because I could challenge myself.

I transferred my $52 dollars last Friday so I'm off and running for this year. :thumbsup2

Great job, congrats for sticking with it and adding even more to the pot!

I just got my credit union statement. As of today my 52 week challenge has $1032.00. I'm doing two 52 week challenge, one forward and one backwards so I only have $1724 to go-lol!

Hopefully by the end of the month I will have one challenge completed.

We haven't missed a week either :) I mentioned previously we are doing it differently and I put each week in a cup after I had cut out the weeks in strips and my DS pulls one every Wednesday.

I still think it's a lot of fun and will continue this next year too!

Keep up the great work everyone :)

That's a different way to do it. I like it!

Currently, I'm ahead, so I don't feel as much pressure. I can put $8 in each week for the next 4 weeks & be on schedule...

I have $1244 saved so far. I'm doing two one forward one backwards but once I complete this one I will start over doing it the same 4 weeks forward and 4 weeks backward each deposit.

So far so good because last year I didn't complete the challenge and I only did one

I wish I would of thought to do 2. I been going backwards and I shaved a bunch of small numbers off and I hope to have the challenge done by Nov. 1. I will start over and try 2. We will be going to Disney in Feb. or April and it will be nice to pay the resort off right away.

I think I saw this on the other thread about this but can't find it now but remember someone saying they were going to put the weekly strips in something then randomly draw one out each week. I've decided to do that to "mix it up" and have fun anticipating it each week. I just hope I don't get all the "high amounts" all at one time!

It will all wash out in the end but hopefully this will spread it out a little more. I'm still going to mark off or highlight each week I've done and that way I'll know what numbers I keep drawing - lol.

Really glad I stumbled upon this!!! I think I will do it this way.

I just started this challenge last week. I was going to go in order but instead of $1 for week 1, I put in $5 because I can obviously put in more than $1. So I think I'll do it randomly...but I'll still put in probably a little more than the minimum. For the higher numbers though, ill probably just do the minimum for those (40-52)

Had to use mine to pay a bill but I'm going to put it back when DH gets his bonus minus the $500 for this years Haiti donation.
Then the rest going forward will probably go to Haiti. I might do one for us and one for them. That way I can bank money for a road trip the kids are planning for next summer. They want to go to Boise to see friends

After reading about the 52 week saving plan, we decided to give it a try for 32 weeks--the time that was left for our WDW trip. So I am saving and the hubby WAS saving. He gave me all his part last night! And he gave me ALL the $ we budgeted for our trip! Woohoo! Our 1st WDW trip is fully funded, and we still have 12 weeks before our trip. He was secretly saving the weekly amount x 2 plus the 1 that I was keeping track of. Sneaky, but in an awesome way! Love that man! <3 Just wanted to share my good fortune with y'all. Hang in there!

Oh, and when we get back from our trip, we will start saving again for Christmas presents. So we will end up doing the 52 weeks in all. :)

Awesome!! Strangely I look forward to Wednesday when my DS pulls my slip for me! :) To be fair, this was not my idea and not sure the poster who came up with this idea is in this thread - I read it somewhere on the DIS and LOVED the idea as soon as I read it. Glad to help spread the joy - :wave2:

I love all the ideas I've seen so far. Unsure if anyone has posted this or not, but I saw where someone was putting all their 5's in a jar. I love this idea! We've tried it a couple times but had a couple emergencies and had to dig into it. I'm still going to try to keep it up. I also save all my change and anything I find in the laundry....it adds up.:)

How is everyone doing keeping up with the challenge? I completed one and I started my 2nd 52 week challenge for the year.

This 2nd challenge I am skipping around. I was going to go backwards starting with $1, $2, $3 etc but I'm going forward with
highest amount $52, $51, $50 etc. Since I don't get a paycheck for the next 2 months I dedcide to do the highest amounts first. I currently only have $150 and next payday at the end of the month I will add another $75. For July & Aug I will put in the lower amount $1, $2 etc, then in December I will hopefully have lower numbers in the teens. I'm really hoping to complete the
2nd challenge

I am in the $20 range and feel like I am plugging along.
I started from highest to lowest.
We are renting points at BCV in Feb. my dh needs a ticket. Our points are paid and waiting to purchase my dh unexpiring ticket. It is almost as expensive as an annual pass, but it will last him at least 5 years since he only does one or two parks a year.

I have done the challenge and then some, adding all extras that I can. I was just able to pay for our 4 military salute tickets and still have about $300 left in the account. 6 weeks until vacation, so there is still time to save a bit more. On top of that, we have $90 in gift cards and a $276 credit sitting at Disney. I'm thinking of getting a few more gift cards before we leave so most of the trip is pre-paid.
