52-Week Savings Challenge

I started the actual 52 week challenge but it has morphed into something else.

Coffee can in the kitchen. Every dollar that gets found in the wash or anywhere gets put in the can. Found a $5 yesterday!! Plus I put the "required" amount in on Friday and then throughout the week I will take a few dollars from my wallet and put in the can. Like, if a break a $20 for lunch, I may put the bill change from it (we have other places that we collect coins).

Haven't counted it yet. But dh and dd are getting in on it. Every so often they bring me money and say "more for the can!"

Just moved over my $5.00 for this week. I haven't had to put any money into the account because the first week, I decided to add a couple of the weeks together to make $10.00.

I cant wait to find out how much you end up with :) I Hardly ever find laundry money and I don't carry cash. Dh does carry cash and all his coins go into the jar for me to wrap and deposit.

I am doing it x5 since there are 5 of us in the family....have already shceduled all the transfers through May at the bank.
I like the idea of doing it randomly and incorporating the kids - but this year I am keeping it under wraps....

5 x's!!!!! wow! I cant wait to hear the end results. I'm rootin for you :)
I wish I could do it 3x's but last year I had trouble completing it for myself-lol! This year, I feel I can complete it. I'm doing it in reversed and I'm off to a good start. If all goes well , then next year I might try it 2x's one with reverse and one with regular so first would be $52 + $1=53 that might work :) If dh can do his own then I can do dd and mine that would make a great family cruise :)

We are doing the 52 week challenge on top of our regular savings plan. We started after Thanksgiving so that December which is a heavy month we start with little money. We will use the money for extra xmas presents. We are doing good so far.

This is a great idea. I am going to try it as a way to save our homeowners association dues and pay for Christmas presents.

I know I am late to the "game" but I am going to do this as well. The money saved will be for DS's 16th birthday cruise in 2015. It won't cover the full cost but will pay for excursions, soda card, and spending money for him. I need to find a different place to put this money. DH is going to laugh at me as I already have a coin jar, a Disney Princess Bank (saving money for trip to WDW with DD in Dec), and now I will have a cruise jar.

I just send out my payment for week 7. I'm doing a reverse version and a forward version. If at some point it gets to hard then I'm going to try and stick to the reverse version

As of today I have $318 and it feels good:cool1:

Good job!! I also put the money for week seven in but we are doing the regular 52 week challenge. It is nice to see my envelope getting fatter :)

Sound like your also doing great!!!. Theres no way I can do the envelopes because I know I would dip into it-lol!

I love that I can just write a check to my credit union and deposit the fund in that way. I don't know what I'm going to do with the money saved. I was only able to save about $900 last year and its still sitting in the bank. This years money I was thinking of using it on a vacation, dd's sweet 16 but I'm also just wanting to save, save save! Anyone else feeling addicted to saving???

Dh also mentioned the other day it time for me to roll his change. He usually leaves his change on his drawer and I take it can roll it then deposit it into our vacation fund.

I'm doing it the bi weekly way and will do my 4th deposit this week. This will put me up to $212.00. I have it transferred directly each payday from my checking to savings account. I haven't told DH about it yet. I plan on surprising him next year with a hunting vacation for just him.

I'm on week 9 although I combined the first few to make $10. I'm transferring the money to an old ING account (now Capital one 360) I never got around to closing.... I'm switching back and forth from high amount to low amounts. I'm thinking I'll just start on the high amounts and work down. DD is getting married next fall, so money might be tight later on :goodvibes

Still at here! We are doubling/skip around and currently at $382.

If you think you'll have trouble with the last few weeks and are getting a tax return this year consider knocking 2, 3, or 4 of the big ones out this month and December will be easier on you.

Also, now is a great time to start saving for holiday shopping. We do $15/wk and, for the first time ever, managed to buy one Christmas gift in January (a winter coat for DD on clearance).

There are 45 weeks until Christmas. Set a budget now and, come December, you won't feel the pinch.

Anyone else use YNAB? I'm a die hard YNAB user and it has really increased our savings rate and made us stand in our truth. Feels good!

Still working hard at this. DH and I are actually ahead a week so it is nice to have a little extra money in there.

I'm on week 7 . I plan on mailing out
week7
week 8
week 9 (added)
week 44 (added)
week 45
week 46

I'm doing forward for myself and I'm also doing a 2nd challenge but I'm going backwards on that one.

Once I mailout my check to my credit union , I will have a total of
about $424 :cool1: so far I'm off to a good start. Last year I wasn't able to complete the challenge and only made it to about $900-$1000 . I'm off to a good start this year. I'm hoping to finsh atleast one challenge and hopefully the 2nd one too. I don't work summer months so hopfully that doesn't mess me up.

added: I got a $50 rebate back from Costco from when I bought my kitchen aid so I went ahead and wrote out a check to include week

Would love to hear updates :)

I'm keeping up with the challenge. today I went to my credit union and deposited $160.
The $160 is
Dates Week Amount
Mar 5-Mar 11 10 $43.00
Mar 12-Mar 18 11 $42.00
Mar 19-Mar 25 12 $41.00
and
Oct 8-Oct 14 41 $12.00
Oct 15-Oct 21 42 $11.00
Oct 22-Oct 28 43 $10.00

I'm doing two versions. One is forward payment plan and the 2nd is the backward payment.

I'm proud of myself for keeping up because last time I didn't. I've saved $636 so far doing this challenge

Instead of the 52 wk challenge, I am doing a small % of my each paycheck automatically deposited into a checking account.

I always want to take my kids to Greece. DS8 is obsessed with Greek mythology. However, it's not in our budget right now. I opened the account two years ago at Chase to get a $200 sign on bonus. It hasn't grow much over the course of the past two year.

I have added $900 to it since the New Year because of my % and a small bonus. I think our trip to Europe will eventually happen someday, :)

My next step is to open a special saving account to transfer my money into it.

I started this in Feb for our March 2015 trip. I am depositing it monthly though. The first week of Feb I did away the 10.00 for the month. First week of March, I did the $26.00, and I am going to continue it this way. In May I will put away Dec amount because of Christmas and in June I will do The Jan. amount. I am hoping to have this pay for our food.
We started a change jar in Jan for our passes. I can not believe how much money my DH has already added to that. We have a big size plastic baby bottle from when my son was born and it is half way full already:cool1:. We have never had it that full. So we are hoping to get as many passes as we can with that, we need 4.
I started another envolpe of 20.00 a week to put towards airline tickets. Hopefully I can add more when available.
I usually do good with saving, but like another poster said, I always take money back out of the envolpe.;)...I always end up with enough at the end to pay for the trip, but I could have had more if I didn't steal from myself.
I am excited about the 52 week challenge, so I think this is going to work out perfect. I am hoping to have no hold barred this vacation:)

I am doing the reverse savings and I have all the payments made till the end of February. In wasn't paying attention to how much. I saved since. I just check off the amount on my worksheet. In looked the other day and I have over $600 saved and I am now down in the $30's for payments each week. Feels good to have the big numbers knocked off.

I have a little change jar that we fill up. once its full I roll it up , then refill the jar up and roll. Once we have a good amount I deposit it into the bank in our vacation fund. Last visit to the bank I asked for some nickel rolls and the guy at the counter told me about their change machine. Its free and I just have to throw my change in it and it spits out a ticket. I just have cash in that ticket that same day. I loved that it counted my change correctly too!
I can't do the envelopes. I know I would cheat and take money out of it-lol!

Great job!!! One more payment and I'll be in the $30's too whoohoo! I don't work in the summers so I'm going to try put in a lil extra before July.

I'm doing two version one forward and one backwards. If I complete both challenges then I hope to use 1/2 towards a cruise and the other 1/2 towards vacation with some close family. They have a timeshare and just invited us for a week vacation. We paid for our own food, tickets to activites, gas and we took treats and snack for all of us and we treated them to dinner twice. We had a great time and it was nice saving a weeks amount of $$ on a resort. The last night of our vacation they said they enjoyed vacationing with us and that we need to plan our next vacation with them for next year. :goodvibes

Wow, I wish we knew people to invite us for vacation. My parents own a house on the lake and about the only thing to do is fish. My whole family, uses my parents and go there all the time, but then they all complain about swimmers itch all summer. And then they yell about each other because someone didn't clean up to someone else's satisfaction. No thanks, give me Disney any day.
