Hello everyone! My family and I are taking my Mom to Disneyworld (February 14th) for her 50th Birthday. We have already surprised her with the trip (and the surprise has gone better than I could have ever asked), but I am trying to come up with ideas on how to surprise her while we are there. We are on the dining plan, so I didn't want to order a cake because we get SO MUCH food already on the dining plan. Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

We are going next January in honor of my Dad's 75th, my Mom's 70th and my sister's 50-so any hints given would be appreciated also!

Hi,
There are a couple of things that you could do. Check www.giftsofalifetime.com
I have read a lot of good things about them. I know that there is a florist that sends gift baskets to the hotels and there is also www.memoriesbysarah.com
She will personalize a basket for you!

Hope this helps! Have a great time with the family!:yay:

Im celebrating my 50th at WDW this coming Nov.

Where has she always wanted to stay?
Are you doing character meals? would she enjoy the princesses?
whats her favorite park? there is a MVCMP on my actual bday but Im thinking I would rather spend the day/night (hopefully) with my "men in skirts" in Canada and will do the christmas party later in the week.
How about tours? any you think she would be really interested in?

I'll be checking back here to read everyones advice - thanks for this thread

What an awesome family! My dh just turned 50 and I will turn 50 in 4 weeks. We will be at WDW in 8 days and we celebrating our birthdays there. I ordered my dh a basket from memories by sarah. I have used her before and she is awesome. Have fun!

What about trying to do 50 pressed pennies (so you would need 100 quarters and 50 pennies)
Or a scrapbook with 50 of your best pictures from photo pass ($99)

Flowers are going to be extra expensive Valentine's week and you aren't going to be around that much to enjoy them anyway. Maybe take candles to put on dessert with your dining plan? And isn't there a place to go? Town hall? that will give you a special birthday pin or badge that could make magical things happen?

Have a fabulous trip! and Happy birthday to mom! Congratulations to her for raising such wonderful children!

Betsy

Thanks for all of the advice! Keep it coming!!

Since we are paying for her part of the trip and our own, I wasn't able to book her favorite hotel (boardwalk inn), but she didn't mind. I also have made reservations at all of her favorite restaurants. I think I have read somewhere that at the Coral Reef you can have a diver hold a sign...anyone know anything about this?

We are eating at:
Coral Reef
Liberty Tree Tavern
Cap N' Jacks
Le Cellier
ESPN Club (that was kind of more for the guys though!)

You should call your resort ahead of time and let them know this - my neice received a big pin upon checkin and she wore it to the parks each day saying she was the birthday girl and the attention she received was amazing! If the resort doesn't give you the pin, you can get them at Guest Services in the parks I believe. Every CM wished her Happy Birthday and now that the YOAMD is on, you just might be selected for something!

Definitely call Disney Dining back & ask if they can put a note on each of your ADR's that you're celebrating your mother's b-day.

When you check into each restaurant, be sure to mention it's your mother's b-day.

If she likes people noticing her, make sure you get her a b-day button on her b-day. (I say that because my own mother would hate people noticing her, so I'd be in heaps of trouble if I called attention to her on her b-day.) Anyway, I think the buttons are available at guest services at the front of the park.

Does your mom like things like tea rooms? If so, have you thought about scheduling an Afternoon Tea in the Tea Room at the Grand Floridian - maybe you & she can do something like that while the guys go to the ESPN club?

Do you have children? If you have a daughter, maybe you can make appts for the 3 of you at the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique.

I've read reports on these boards where some people have received little things (towel animals, balloons, cards, etc.) in their resort rooms on their b-days - so at least mention your mother's b-day at the front desk when you check-in... you never know!

I really liked the 50 pressed pennies idea!

You could also get her an autograph book & ask the characters as you see them if they'll sign their names w/ a "Happy Birthday, Mom!"

Does your mom like Christmas ornaments or things like that? Be sure to purchase some sort of commemorative item to remember her b-day trip. Also, be sure to get a really good group photo made & purchase a WDW frame for the photo.

Have fun!!

We did this in Sept. They will have a diver w/ a sign & then he will bring the sign to your table. All FREE! My DH & I & kids are taking my parents to DW in March. My dad is celebrating his 60th b-day & we are def. doing Chef Mickeys! I also suggest buying Disney Dollars for her. Even if you are paying for the trip, it will still help w/ souveniers.

You can rent a private 24ft yacht at the Grand Flor that will take you all out onto the lagoon to watch the fireworks over the castle. The music is piped into the boat.:rolleyes1

Everyone has awesome ideas! I really liked the pressed penny idea, the autograph book.....does anyone have the number to call about the Coral Reef Diver??

I will also be sure to get her the birthday pin.

We just returned from WDW. We went down for a few days to celebrate my husband's 30th bday. I used giftsofalifetime.com and they did an awesome job of putting a surprise together for him - he loved it! I'd definitely recommend them.

Myself, I put together a birthday album for him with pictures from all of his friends and family back home with signs wishing him a Happy 30th Bday since he had decided to escape to the magic of WDW. I saved a few pages at the end so I could put pictures of him enjoying his big day at the park and the surprise from Gifts of a Lifetime!

He's not big on drawing attention to himself, but he also enjoyed wearing his bday button :)
