Planning way ahead--We are deciding on the details of our 50th anniversary in November 2006--a year+ from now. It will be a total of 13 with 4 rooms and kids from 10 to 14. We like the looks of Port Orleans Riverside. If anyone has a suggestion otherwise we would appreciate hearing aboout it. Also any opinions about Boatworks-I think that is the name of the restaurant.
We'd be there over Thanksgiving and know there will be crowds so advice there would be helpful too
Thanks much
Everett

Welcome to the DIS and an early congrats on 50 years!! That's awesome! :cool1:

The restaurant at POR is Boatwright's and I liked it for breakfast but it was just ok for other meals. Just my opinion. I'm sure others will vary.

Well, first -- CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I think your family will love POR for atmosphere; the grounds are absolutely beautiful :goodvibes My only concern (and I mean this is the *only* concern I would have....) is if you all could get rooms in close proximity to each other. The only reason I'm even mentioning that is because it is "such a busy time of year". CRO or your TA might be able to assure you that your rooms would be close; it's just something I would check on.

POFQ has many benefits too - one being that the resort is so small that even if your rooms are not near one another, they're still pretty near one another!!

Have fun planning your trip! :sunny:

Congratulations, Everett! My parents will also be celebrating their 50th next year.

We loved Port Orleans Riverside. Very romantic - the theming is great!

You would qualify for a Grand Gathering since your group is over 8 people. More info is available here.

Wishing you a wonderful vacation and many more happy years together! :wizard:

We celebrated our parents 40th anniversary in June 2004. There were 18 of us, 9 adults and 9 kids (2 1/2 through 11) We qualified for the Grand Gatherings, and I would highly recommend it! We did the fireworks cruise and the breakfast at MK. The kids, as well as the adults, really enjoyed it. They play games, have sing-a-longs and put on a good show. They really get all of the guests involved. They also highlight any birthdays, anniversaries or other special occasions. My parents were serenaded to by 'Tony" at the MK breakfast, while they danced :love2: , and by Captain Shmee on the cruise. It was lots of fun... We also did the Hoop-De-Doo which is a must-see. With so many of us, and doing different things during the day, these really gave us a chance to get together and enjoy a few goood times!!Very memorable!!!

With your suggestions we are going to follow through at POR for NEXT November. Now the room selection. We will have 4 rooms and it looks like Building 85-90 facing the water is a good selection. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Since so many will be coming with you to help celebrate, have you considered renting points from a DVC member so you could stay together and have more room to spread out than a normal hotel room?
