50th Anniversary Pressed Pennies

This is something I've been meaning to do for a year. So a week ago yesterday I sat on the bed and dumped out my daughters piggy bank. Put all the quarters in one pile, pennies in another. Then we dumped the pennies in a bowl with vinegar for a little while. We actually didn't have them in there that long, as we were leaving soon for DL and I'm a procrastonator. We got about half of them that day. But we were also doing a bunch of stuff and since we're local and go all the time it wasn't a big push to finish in one day. One machine was broke, and we went back yesterday and it was fixed.

Here the list I use. It's straight from DL

We had a hard time finding the machine in Greetings in DCA. It was right by the middle door. On top of the machine they had the books that will hold all the pennies. We bought one of them there. I don't recall there being a book above the other machines we visited but then again we had already bought our book so I wasn't looking any longer.

I think having the book is nice because you can have them all in one place. Otherwise ourse would end up all over the place. As soon as we go one I would put in in the album. The backs do say Magical Memories (or maybe it was Magical Moments, I don't remember) but if I really want to see the back, I'll just take it out.

DL sells regular penny holders and the 50th penny holder. The 50th one has enough slots for all of the pennies (plus a few for quarters)

Do any of the machines take dollar bills instead of quarters? I would rather take cash instead of a bunch of rolls of quarters. We will be working on 4 complete 50th anniversary sets, and that's alot of quarters.

Try asking a cashier at DL when you are buying something for a roll of pennies as part of your change. I did this the other day at a fast food place with nickels, and they gave me a whole roll, no problem. If they won't/can't give you a roll, I bet they would give you at least 10 or so. You might want to get quarters, too. Every pressed penny costs 2 quarters.

The cashiers only get so much in rolls in their tills. It has to last most of the day, so I would not advise asking this. Your best bet would probably be to go to guest relations, as they usually do a foreign currency exchange. Your bank may be able to do this for you before hand also. Pack your roll of coins in your checked luggage.

No, they ONLY take quarters.

Also, when turning the handle, don't stop. Turn it all the way until the penny is pressed. It is my understanding that when you slow down/stop, the penny gets messed up.

I'm not sure if all of the machines have dollar machines next to them, but I know that at least a few of the ones we visited did have dollar changing machines next to them. The one in Greetings did not, but there was a change machine near the other penny press machine in the front of the store.
