50's PTC...can they go easy on the interaction??

I feel for the people who don't know what they are getting in to when they enter the restaurant/make the reservation. Truly. But for those who know what it is and want it toned down, THAT is part of the experience. You can't request to the CM's to "tone down" the amount of water on Splash Mountain nor how loud the fireworks are. To request something that wasn't part of the intended purpose of an attraction/restaurant just further adds to the provide less/charge the same motto Disney World is taking.

We stopped in to get drinks at the bar last week at 50s and the bartender was so nice! I mentioned to my brother that we should eat there on our next trip to which he replied that he would never eat there again after a waitress purposely dumped a plate of potato chips in his lap over 15 years ago! I am working on him to give it one more try - that waitress is probably long gone by now!

We've eaten at 50's PTC several times and we love the food, but my kids really do NOT like the "aggressive" servers. I'm referring to the servers that are constantly pointing out things like elbows on the table and not eating their vegetables and such. The kids are fine with conversation and some interaction, but when they are loudly called out or "berated", or anything to call attention to them, they are mortified. Their typical response would be to ignore the server and not interact, but I fear that would encourage the server to escalate and try harder to get them to respond, which would make it even worse. It's fine to hear the "spiel" and keep it within the confines of the table, but when it starts to involve the neighboring tables and other guests, my kids start to get uncomfortable because they can be extremely self-conscious. On our last trip, my older daughter ended up leaving the table in tears:sad1:. I've had some servers that are perfect and keep it to a minimum. They stay in character, but the aren't loud or obnoxious about it. THOSE are the ones we love:love:. When I went with my friend last year, we had a server who was really into their role and we antagonized him a LOT...but it was a riot because we were two adults who wanted to play the part too:rotfl2:.

Our 180-day window is coming up next week and I am wondering if there is a better time (early vs late) that we should consider. Also, is there something that we should have them note on the reservation? I would think I could just quietly mention something at the restaurant. I know that the CM's would never intentionally make a guest uncomfortable and my goal is to avoid that. My girls love watching the OTHER guests interact with the servers so the overall atmosphere of the restaurant is very entertaining, and they love the food, so we do not want to skip the restaurant altogether.

Thanks for any advice or tips:flower3:.

Personally,
I'd sit the kids down and say "In the past you didn't like all the interactions at PrimeTime, so if you're still uncomfortable we're not going there this trip."

That's just it...my girls will be 13 and 15...
My older daughter will get up and sing solo karaoke at the pool, so she isn't afraid of attention, but it has to be on her terms. If someone is putting the focus on her and she doesn't want it, she will freak out and have a breakdown.

Personally, if there was any chance of my 15 year old freaking out or having a breakdown anywhere, I would say we are not going on the trip! Unless, of course, this teen has a disability that she cant control her emotions. If that is the case, then yes, I would just choose another restaurant if it makes her uncomfortable to be at 50's PT.

My family has stopped going there due to how over the top some of the cm's can get. I get that it's part of the experience but there's a difference between saying hey dont put your elbows on the table and berating someone for what they are wearing
We actually stopped going there because the waitstaff have become so tame. The entertainment value wasn't a part of our experience the last two times we were there. We actually egged the waiter on by purposely putting our elbows on the table. My husband tattled on my daughter and I because we wouldn't eat our greens. We even hid them in our napkins and made it quite obvious.

Our first three times there were hilarious. It was the only real reason we ate there. Then suddenly it dropped off on the last two visits and got boring. We are skipping it this time for the first time.

It would be awesome if during reservations you could indicate if your party was game for fun and you were up for crazy antics or if you wanted a more tame experience. That would make it more enjoyable for everyone and nobody would have to feel uncomfortable or get upset.

Disney has about 150 restaurants. Im guessing about 90 - 100 of those are TS. As far as I know 2 of them have the "antics". During your dining reservations, you do have an option to opt of the antics..........by choosing another restaurant. Nobody would go to a restaurant with live music and ask the band to stop playing. Nobody asks the characters to leave because it upsets their toddlers. I dont understand why anyone would choose to eat there, then ask the waitstaff to not do their job. I really dont get it.

Please tell me of the other restaurant that has “antics,” because my family is ALL in!!!

Unfortunately, the "please tone it down crowd" seems to have severely impacted the entire restaurant. Last few times being in there, we wanted more and more of "it" and the CM's just didn't seem to want to make the fuss and effort.
Disappointing, to say the least. After all, we wouldn't want to offend someone with delicate sensibilities with what is clearly an act and part of the intended atmosphere. Whiners, unite.
