I have one DHS day without an ADR...in all my trips, I've never been to either of these! Which do you prefer, and why?
I can see my 8year old loving the car theme, but maybe not the science fiction movies....
I can also see her loving the original mickey mouse club...do all the tables at 50's Prime Time have TV's?

50's....hands down. The food is much better, especially the fried chicken. I always want to go back for it.:yay:

50's = great food, cute theme, more relaxing and felt more like a family meal
Sci Fi = love eating in the cars but you see your kids backs the whole time...the movie is more the focus and it is darker in there...food was pretty good. Good luck! :)

50's would be my choice, the food is so much better than sci-fi. I wil say though that it is worth doing sci-fi at least once for the atmosphere. At 50's every table we have been seated at has had a tv.

WhileI found the atmosphere at Sci-fi "fun". Our whole family *loved* the 50's Prime Time. The Atmosphere, the food ANd the wait staff... all amazing. It's become a must-do for us.

Food is probably better at 50s, but it can be VERY loud and crowded, which may not be the best. Sci Fi is really a neat experience, and I think your children would love the atmosphere. Each family gets a car to sit in, and it looks like your watching the old drive-in movies at night. Food is more diner-ish, but still tastes good!

Thank you for the responses...
I'm really torn now.
This may be the only time that it's just me and dd...that would lend itself well to Sci Fi since I wouldn't be seated behind her...also the darker setting might be a good break from the heat of the August afternoon...
On the other hand, 50's looks fun and I think I'd like the food a little better. I'm sure Becky would prefer Mickey Mouse Club to a Sci Fi movie..
But if I do Sci Fi now and then 50's when we have DH with us.....that might be better....so we don't have to sit in two separate rows - which is what would happen if we do Sci Fi with all three of us...
Oh - decisions, decisions.....

We took our kids to both restaurants when they were younger. They seemed to enjoy Sci Fi much more. It doesn't seem to matter what's on that big screen, they really enjoy watching it, while they didn't seem at all interested in what was on the TV's at 50's. 50's has a fun atmosphere - but I think it appeals more to adults. Having someone ask you to keep your elbows off the table and finish your vegetables is probably not as unique an experience for an 8 year old as it is for an adult!

It's probably terrible of me, but we found that letting our kids zone out at the "drive-in" was phenomenally relaxing after a hectic few days in the parks.

I love 50s prime time. Scifi is ok & everytime we go I freeze to death. You can beat 50s prime time food & atmosphere, the fried chicken is great & they have the best cherry & vanilla coke. I can't say enough good stuff about 50s prime time. Did I say I Love love love 50s prime time:banana:

I'd say "High Five!!!" except I'd be scared we'd be put in the corner for misbehaving :P ...

seriously though, I agree. Love it.

My boys did love Si-Fi but the dinner selection went down hill big time. So not worth it IMO. Lunch is good.

For us it's 50's no ? good food & great fun a must do every trip.:worship:

my husband is notorious for playing on his phone while we eat. Our "mom" at the 50's cafe took it away from him and didnt return it until we were ready to leave. Because of that it has become my favorite restaurant of all time.

Be careful though when we first got there, a girl, around 15ish was standing in the corner promising to eat her vegetables. So if you dont have that kind of sense of humor, dont go.

Sci Fi is fine...just so-so food in a dark car.

If you have the time you could always have your meal at the 50's Primetime Cafe and have a milkshake or some other dessert at Sci-Fi. We enjoyed our meal at Sci-Fi, but have yet to try the other.

I would say 50's. I dont't know if anyone else has experienced this, but when we went to Sci-Fi Diner in January my 7 & 8 year olds were really terrified of the SciFi movies playing on the screen. They ate their entire meals just staring at their plates, and couldn't wait to get out of there. They did like the cars though.

Guess you never know what little nuggets you'll take from each trip, but my family (wife, 2 tweens and a 14-year-old) still talk about our rmeal last year at 50s PT. More so in fact, than any other meal. I still remember arriving for our ADR and hearing "grandma" screaming for Mitch to "get in here, dinner's almost ready". Just had a lot of fun with many laughs.
