50s Prime Time Dilemma

1st time at 50's we ordered our drinks and one was a choc shake. The 20 yr old was told no dessert until you finish dinner. We all laughed but when the drinks were served no shake. She did get it with her meal. DH ended up eating grizzle from his steak because the server picked it up and fed it to him. Again we laughed but then he told us it was grizzle and that was why he didn't eat it. Well we actually laughed even harder :rotfl: but...............we tried again because we did like the food and this time they kinda left us alone except when 'sister' told me I better eat my spinach or she would tell Mom. I told her it ain't gonna happen. She just walked away. We don't like the antics but like the food. We try to get a seat at the Tune In Lounge and eat there. They leave us alone and the bartenders are great!

No real answer for your question, because I love the atmosphere. It screams "Disney" to me because we don't have ANY place like this at home.

My only input is you absolutely MUST get the "PB&J" milkshake. It's lifechanging.

The problem with that is that there are very, very few options at the STudios. That's why it's dumb to make the restaurant with possibly the most diverse menu also be a place that amkes some guests uncomfortable/agitated. Woudl make more sense in Epcot where there are approximately 6,500 TS restaurants to choose from.

Uh ok 6500 restaurants :confused3?? Anyway, I think you need to lighten up a bit and not get so hung up on worrying about your server. We were there in May and had a great time. Seriously, you're on vacation - relax!

That was, of course, an intentional exaggeration to make a point. Epcot has many TS to choose from, SSTudios has very few (and one of them is garbage).

Personally I go on vacation to relax and avoid nagging. The Prime Time schtick doesn't relax me, it feels like being nagged.

I agree with several PP. . .mention to the host or hostess that you would like a quiet meal and I'm sure they'll oblige. They do want the guests to enjoy their meal, and you know the servers want the tips!

My family loves the "schtick". . .but we needle the servers right back!! :thumbsup2

The PP was absolutely right about the bar too. If you are willing to eat at hte bar you do not get any of the antics (or we didn't), but you also don't really get the whole theme/feel either. The bar is to the right as you walk in and the dining room is on the other side of the restaurant, so you don't get to see other people either.

When we went we were in a big group so the waiter only picked a few people to pick on, and after picking on the more obvious things he knew who reacted well and to play with and who to ignore.

The first one was my dad always wears a ball cap. Normally he remembers to take it off at dinner but he was tired and forgot. He got a bit of hell for that. The other one that got picked on a lot was my youngest niece who was 8. She loved it though. So much that she wasn't eating very fast. Then she was told by the server to eat or he was going to get out the Kazoo... Well now she wanted to know what the kazoo was for so she purposely picked until he came back with it. (It is to make airplane noises when they feed you).

The other things were little things like I ordered the smores and he wanted to know "How can you get s'more when you haven't had any yet?" And when I ordered my meal I said "I'm going to get..." and he wanted to know if I was going to do that what he was going to do.

A few people, my mom and older niece got picked on for elbows on the table that sort of thing.

Oh and my niece was asked to bring another table the dessert menu (viewfinders) when we finished with it.

Actually the viewfinders annoyed me a bit though I mean they are cool but I think they should have normal menus available because they don't have descriptions in the viewfinders.

Have you thought abuot Sci-Fi? Not only do they leave you alone, it's dark in there too and you don't even have to sit facing the other people in your party. Their menu is fairly diverse, especially at dinner.

I wouldn't worry too much about the antics. My family and I have been going there for many many years and the antics have definitely become less and less each time. In recent years just my mom and I have gone and the servers never play with us much, even though we want them to. They are able to read people pretty well and won't mess with people too much who seem uninterested. However, if the server does mess with your family, it usually isn't bad and can be very fun.
