Please share what the waitresses/waiters do there...

Never been here before but a little nervous about trying. Some of the reviews sound like the waiters/waitresses in-character could be a bit much, borderline annoying -- like being told to sit in a corner or bringing a child's unfinished meal back with whipped cream in place of the dessert?

Are the funny things really fun or could they just upset a child or be annoying to an adult? Not sure this is my cup of tea... but I like to try new things.

As an alternative, we are thinking about taking the boat over to the Beach Club or Epcot for lunch, then returning to Hollywood Studios -- but that might take a long time with the travel.....

Picture a sitcom preferable something from the 50's.:thumbsup2

The waitress (Mom) will tell you things like take your elbows off the table and finish your vegetables or you can't have desert. The other person will be something else like a cousin. The wait staff will go with your mood. ;) If you seem to enjoy it they will ham it up if not they will be more subtle with you. None of this is done harshly, it's all in good fun. The biggest thrill I ever had was when the waitress told my mother to "get your elbows off the table, dear." She had been doing this to me all the time when I was a kid.

Well I'm a shy person, and so is my brother. ( my kids not so much ) and we had a great time here. It's all done in fun and they won't literally FORCE you, but they will playfully make you do things.

I can see how some things could be margianlly embarassing. The waitress made my then 60 year old mom eat two more bites with the "choo choo coming to the tunnel" method", but we all laughed cause you know you're not being "singled out" ... it's all in fun.

P.S. Keep your elbows off the table.

The antics, tho, seem to be hit or miss. We've eaten here probably half a dozen times, and at least half of those times, our servers did absolutely nothing! I mean, service wasn't poor or anything, but it was just "normal" service you'd get anywhere. We weren't humiliated or force-fed or made to sing :sad1:

So it's definitely not a given that every server there participates in the antics.

We've eaten here many times also and have never had antics. Although I did see a honeymooning couple at another table close to us get humiliated. It was obvious they were not enjoying it.

It's funny that you say that. I guess different people like different things. DW and I recently went to a mexican restaurant for our anniversary, and they happened to have a Mariachi band playing... But to our HORROR, they were going table to table and staying at each table for a few songs. OMG we almost died from awkwardness....

But then we had a hilariously great time with the antics at 50's Prime Time...

In December 2008 I went there for dinner with three of my friends from Orlando and our server was feeding one of them his vegetables using an airplane sound, which we all thought was very funny.

We had a really great "Cousin" take care of us at the Prime Time. He was very pleased that we all knew to set the table. He also made my niece go was her hands before she could eat, and then quizzed her on the color of the soap, so he could be sure she washed.

It was really very fun, and not at all obnoxious. I would definately go again.

50's PTC is a lot of fun. Last time we were there our "cousin" and his "mom" kept on giving eachother looks like a normal son and mother would when they are bickering. He pulled a chair to our table and 2 seconds later his "mom" came to our table and yelled at him for being lazy. I have heard someone sing "I'm a little tea cup" because their "mom" told them to get their elbows off the table several times. When I was 15 my camp went to Disney. Me and some friends ate with the head of our programs wife. We told our "mom" it was her birthday and they made our whole section come and sing "Happy Birthday" to her. It's a good time but they really only go as far as you let them.
