Mine was less than $100 (but that was back in the early 1970's). I recall giving my class ring to my girlfriend and that she lost it. Eventually it was found in the ashes of their burn pile. (They lived an a farm and burned their trash - Apparently little sister had thrown my ring in the waste paper basket). I returned the favor, so to speak, and lost my girlfriend's class ring. I bought her another one because I felt badly about losing hers.
Fast forward to five years after HS graduation. I went to my parents house and retrieved my class ring (having long since broken up with my high school sweetheart) and started wearing it. I went out to celebrate my 23rd birthday at Friday's and had way too many pina coladas. When I got home, I took off the ring and, as I was setting it down, thought to myself "Don't set it there. You'll never find it." The next morning, I could not for the life of me find that darn ring. And I have never found it. I went to my high school reunion sans ring. It was the first and last high school reunion that I attended. To this day I wonder where the heck I set that blasted ring.
