$50 Starbucks Gift Card....for Only $200

just looked there are several and one is for $500. but wait....free shipping :rotfl:

Quite a few w Starbucks items are very collectible. People actually pay for unused cards with no cash value. I will be shocked, if it doesn't sell out quickly.

Wasn't there something similar around Christmas. A sterling silver one?

Yup. It was a little cheaper though.

Interestingly, this isn't the first time that the coffee giant has sold a gift card for hundreds of dollars over its face value. During the 2014 holidays, Starbucks sold a $50 card made of silver for $200, and the card actually sold out, Slate said.

I tell you now, if I bought that for my mother she would probably smack me. What a waste.

I hope most Moms would smack their child and yell "I didn't raise no stupid kids!!" if someone is foolish enough to buy this. So keep the price a secret if you're considering it.

The perfect gift for people with more money then sense...

Treat Mom with the first ever metal & ceramic Starbucks Card. It comes pre-loaded with $50, beautifully packaged and ready-to-gift.

silly op its not about the $50 gc balance for treats they are collector Items.

A worthless $150 metal and ceramic trinket.

Fools and their money are soon parted. For those with more money than brains.

I showed my mom, and she said if I ever got that for her I would be grounded for stupidity.
Why would anyone even want this?
"Hey, I got you a gift card made of ceramic and metal."
"OMG thanks, Gerald! I've always wanted one!"

I have a very rich boss, multimillionaire. I asked him about this today and if he would ever buy one. His answer, "Are you freaking kidding me? How do you think I stay rich? By not spending money on stupid, idiotic items...that's how." LOL

I couldn't resist looking it up to see what this crazy $200 card looks like.

I'm really glad no one in my family collects anything. The things collectors will pay for!

It is crazy.
And just because a business deems something limited edition or collectable doesn't make it so.
Anyway, I don't see Moms across America proudly displaying their gift card in a box as something really special. It's a gift card. In a box. :)
(And eventually Mom will find out how much it cost...and she'll be ticked...or at least many Moms would be.)

Let me preface this by saying I would NEVER buy such a thing. But...

It's not the actual gift card aspect that you're paying for. It's the collector status of having something different, something people are willing to pay for, something to keep and might be worth even more in the future.

Don't people easily drop $150 at Disney for similar "collector" items???? I'm thinking little figurines, statues, crystal, all kinds of "collectibles". May not be your thing, but people do it all the time. This isn't really all that different. Others might look at your little crystal Mickey Mouse figure and say, "You really paid $100 for THAT? Are you CRAZY?"

To each their own...
