50 Shades of Grey

The only problem I can see with your choices is that Matt Bomer is openly gay and thus I don't know if I could believe him in this kind of role. Don't get me wrong, I think he is uber talented and supremely hot...I just don't know that if I could get my own knowledge out of my head in order to buy it.

I just found out about that and I had NO idea. I think Neal Caffrey is yummy but then I also think NPH is yummy too. Figures, I always like unavailable men!!

I read 2 of the 3 books... had to stop with book 3 around the 5th or 6th chapter. I might come back to it again another time, but it was going downhill rapidly for me.

I thought the 1st book was pretty good. I agree with others; it really should have ended there.

Book 2:

something bad happens, they have s*x, something bad happens, they have s*x...etc etc... it got old!

The Christian character that I enjoyed in book 1 no longer existed by the end of book 2... bah!

I'm pretty sure my dog could write better stuff...

Man these books are so bad, but I just can't look away-it's like a trainwreck!

This is probably the best and most hilarious part of the entire series

I could have lost him...and I love him...I love him so much, and I'm suddenly overcome by the enormity of my love and the depth of my commitment to him. I will spend the rest of my life loving this man, and with that awe-inspiring thought, I detonate around him-a healing, cathartic orgasm, crying out his name as tears flow down my cheeks.

from the second book...CRYING OUT HIS NAME AS TEARS FLOW DOWN MY CHEEKS! Come on, really? But still hilarious. Also, love and depth of commitment and spending the rest of her life with him...and they've known each other for about a month at this point.

If you are up for it google the name of the book + Gilbert Gottfried. Hilarious and disturbing at the same time.

I've been reading this series for the past week and have gotten through book 1 and half of book 2. I wasn't aware of the Twilight connection, but kept thinking it reminded me so much of it. Just like Twilight, I agree that it is poorly written, but for some reason I am very intrigued and can't stop reading it. If I read that "he pressed his mouth in a hard line" one more time, I just might have to stop though (yeah, I know, I doubt I'll stop, lol) Somehow I managed to read all four poorly written Twilight books in two weeks. Go figure.

I totally agree with Ian Somerhalder as Christian. He's exactly what I picture when I'm imagining Christian in my head. I'm not a Vampire diaries watcher, but I might have to start after seeing him;)

OK I am giving up on the last book I think...I am around 200 pages in and it is HORRIBLE. The first two were kinda bad too but in a funny way, but I really just can't bring myself to finish this one...when I am into a book I finish it in less than 5 days and I've been working on this for almost two weeks and am not even halfway done. Going to google a book summary and just find out what happens. I really was not a big fan of this series but it *was* unintentionally hilarious. Time to read something that doesn't make me feel like my brain is rotting out of my head.

I usually like to read triologies, but these books were so much of the same mumbo jumbo. Maybe if I would of waited a couple of months between books it would of been better.

OK went back on what I said before and I finished it, and pretty much didn't like it at all. I never seem to be able to abandon a book after I am already reading it, even if I don't like it. I didn't read all the random "bonus" material at the end, though, and I was pretty much thrilled that I didn't have to suffer through an additional 20-30 pages.

This was probably the most cheesy and contrived book I have ever read. I just really couldn't get into the series.

But, it was really funny that he is a feeder. It reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where Elaine dates the feeder who keeps making her eat and buys her a big wheel of cheese.

Ok, I posted up above somewhere, but now that I have finished the series, I couldn't wait to finish book 3 as it was terrible. I think it was just so much repetition among all three books. The writing was aweful and you'd think an editor would realize the repetition of the same lines through out and the same sex scenes played over and over. I appreciate that they tried to build a plot, but the writing was just too distracting, especially by the third book. The first book was decent, the second was just ok, and the third was aweful. Just too much of the same.

I read all 3 this weekend - can't say that I understand the hoopla. I suppose it's the titillation factor. I've certainly read better and am grateful that i borrowed them instead of wasting $$ on an actual purchase.

That said, I'd absolutely go to see the movie if the Alexander Skarsgard casting rumors are true.

I tried a few things after Fifty... but the Realtors Series by Liz Crowe was the one thing I found that was as captivating! The relationship between Jack and Sara will draw you in... and ladies Sara is a successful woman with her own career. The other characters in the book are developed over the series, it is enjoyable to watch them all interact.

Here are the Amazon links for this highly recommended trilogy ...

Book One: Floor Time -

Book Two: Sweat Equity -

Book Three: Closing Costs -

Never heard of him - I watched the link. He looks a lot like Rob Lowe - younger Rob Lowe (not that he isn't aging well!)

I thought so too!

I struggled through the last book- I found the second half better than the first.

Thanks for the suggestions dmsprung! I'll have to check these out!
I've read all 3 Grey books and loved them. I know the writting is bad, but we aren't talking classic novels here. :rotfl: However, what I can't figure out is why these books became so popular when there are much better out there and have been for a while. For example, I just finished a Maya Banks book that was from like 2007/2008 and it was OMG! HOT! Could not put it down. Now I admit it has a ton of sex in it, but so does 50 Shades.
I suggest to anyone that liked the 50 Shades books to seek out some other authors. You may find better writting and story. :).
Also, Barnes and Noble is touting a book now that I did get sucked into and while it is very similar to 50, I liked it much better and can't wait for book 2 to come out. Bared To You, by Sylvia Day.

After listening to a Gilbert Gottfried reading of this book (look it up on youtube, funniest thing I have ever seen) I am thoroughly disturbed that my mother and sister have read this book.

So it's ok for you to read, but not your mother or sister. That doesn't seem very fair.

If it were years ago, I would say Richard Geer.

I was totally into all 3 books.

I know people slam the books for the subject matter; but the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was a much harder subject for me. At least in this, it wasn't rape.
