50 point contracts, more common?

I am wanting to purchase a 30-40 point contract at Hilton Head at the end of this year/beginning of next year. (pay in full) I really didn't want more than 40 points. But from what I have seen, it seems as though 50 point contracts are far more common.

I have a feeling that I may have to take my husband's offer of purchasing a slightly bigger contract if need be. Lol!

Yeah, 40 is a bit of an odd number and most of the smaller contracts are in denominations of 25. The thing with resale is you need to be flexible on the number of points. While it's rare to find that "perfect" contract, many times you can get pretty close to perfect. Good luck in your hunt!

Exactly what I was thinking. I will plan for 50, but hope for around 40 points.

One almost always should get a cushion of at least 10-20%, esp if looking at studios. If it's for HH use, I'd got at least 50 (likely more) even if you think 40 will do what you want. But I wouldn't buy HH mainly looking to use at WDW.

But not possible for a first purchase.
I've seen a couple of reports of DVD allowing less than 50 first purchase so it'd be worth asking if this is how one wanted to go. It'd be a rare situation where it'd be a reasonable choice for a first purchase but for HH studio only very 2-3 years it might be for some.

Certainly, but it is moderately difficult to find and purchase 50-point contracts. They sell quick and high.
I know. I'll be in serious stalking mode towards the end of the year. I found a few that haven't sold immediately, but just a few.

I'll go with resale. Save $$$$.
But will you save much money on that size purchase, I think the answer is no. Ignoring closing, the base difference is around $2250 but in reality the difference is likely less. IF you could find a loaded HH contract you'd save that minus some dues adjustment but the reality for a small purchase is finding a loaded contract at a reasonable price is dramatically unlikely and a truly stripped one far more likely. With retail you can time your purchase and almost certainly get the UY you want and the current UY points rather than having to settle for UY to find the right contract otherwise. So let's compare a June UY resale stripped to a June UY retail bought now. Resale stripped is roughly $3500 plus closing with no points until 2018 and in Jan, 2018 you'd be paying dues on 5 months of points you didn't use. Retail with June points but no banked points would be the same plus $365 for points reimbursement. Retail fully loaded (additional 50 banked points) likely a little higher but not much though unlikely to find. Retail would be $5750 plus $215 plus closing. So assuming the same closing costs (likely slightly less retail), full fees reimbursement resale, points difference valued at $12 a point, lost dues on points the second year, $70 a points resale and $115 a point retail the difference in resale and retail is $900 or so. I got that by recognizing that 2 years of points at $12 a point is $1200 and with dues paid in year 2 on points one doesn't have, is another $150. IMO with those numbers, it's not worth going resale unless you just want the thrill of the hunt. If you can get a fully loaded contract with those numbers at those prices, I'd take the other side.

If you want a small contract through resale sign up for email alerts from the different agencies and be prepared to make an offer within minutes.
