50% off Southwest Rapid rewards points?

I got an email about 50% off southwest rapid rewards points. I've never bought points, only earned them through purchases on my southwest card.
I'm not going to have enough points for a planned trip this fall and was wondering if it makes sense to purchase them with the 50% off. Is this a common thing that people do? Is it a good deal? I've not done the math yet.

Do the math. Nobody can tell you if it's a good deal, only the math can.

Once you've bought the points you can never have your money back. Even if your flight is cancelled by southwest the only refund you will get is the points.

The most I have gotten was 45% off. 50% sounds good if you do it. Like what has been said, I have done this twice now. I have still yet used those points. I have gotten other promotions but wanted to book with cash than points. Maybe will use those points for another trip to Hawaii or Florida some time in the next couple years

Compare the cash cost of the flight to the cost to buy the points for the same flight. If it costs more to buy the points (which it almost always does), it is not a good deal.
