From **************, at the Around the World press event this morning: "Jim McPhee says over 50,000 signups already for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train FastPass+ this morning. Wow."

And they were not prepared for this because? I wonder what time period this is over. It may give a good idea of how many per day are being given. i would assume it's FP or don't ride for a long time. Can't even imagine what the SB line would look like.

Good luck to all those there or heading down. It looks like a pretty cool ride. I can't book anything for our trip util June 21. Hopefully the craziness and system crashes are done by then.

Yikes! I wonder what the FP capacity is for each day? Because right now people are trying to get FP for all the days from May 28th through July 2nd...its not like a normal FP window where its just for the next 60-days-out date.

Its 36 days worth of FPs, which comes to around 1400 FP per day. What is normal capacity for a ride like that?

Not picking on you in particular, just this common thread ;), among the threads.

System crashes happen to lots of websites when there is a new release or big events.

Honestly, do people really think this is an oddity? :confused3

Don't ever play video games online if a new game/update is released!! Or watch HBO to go when the new Games of Thrones is available!

No kidding. Heck, Windows 8 has been out for months and it's still buggy, so buggy that Bill Gates himself asked to be reverted back to Windows 7. New = crashes, plain and simple. I'm baffled as to why people are bogging down the system even more by calling Disney or seeking online chat. It's not like they can help. They'll only tell you what you already know or should know: system is down. IT is working on it.

Or try to pre-order a new gadget from Apple the day it comes out......

I'm with you completely - why do people think this is an uncommon event? There is no way to prepare a system for that kind of influx all at one time.

Or the stampedes resulting in injury and deaths over Tickle Me Elmo and Xboxes.

Because you're only allowed to book so far in advance, so for many, that's 30 days. It doesn't open until May 28th, so there's only a few days of FP availability right now.

lol. sorry.

for some reason I was thinking people could book for 60 days out FROM may 28th, which of course makes no sense at all.

I've seen Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Apple (iPhone pre-orders anyone?) and other sites crash under large loads...

If Apple can't stay up, it doesn't surprise me that the IT guys at Disney can't keep up with demand!

It was funny, but it wasn't actually true. It was a satirical article that wrote that. ;)

Actually, it is possible. You just overengineer it, but this is VERY expensive. With cloud infrastructure, however, this is far less expensive that it used to be. Designed correctly, you can spin up more capacity only when needed, and just pay for the time that you're using the additional capacity, reducing when the traffic spike is over.

Clearly, Disney is trying to do this all in-house, and doesn't have the capacity to deal with two promotions starting at the same time (arguably 3 with Harambe Nights as well). But to say that it was impossible to plan for isn't true.

Doing the math, let's say 50,000 FP+'s betwen May 28th-July 2nd have all been taken up. That's roughly 1500 FP+'s for the SDMT per day. Giving a rough estimate of the park being open 15 hours per day (not including EMH) that is about 100 FP+'s per hour?

No idea if that is right, and that is assuming that 50,000 is the limit, which I doubt it is. If we knew how many FP+ were available for each time slot, maybe we could get something a little more accurate?

As of about 15 minutes ago on May 30th there were SDMT FP available for every time slot. I know that's not telling you how many are in each time slot, but there are definitely still a decent amount left for the 30th.

I know this is a little different but when RSR opened at DCA at DLR they gave so many FP that you'd be crazy to wait standby because no one would be let on from that line for almost an hour. It's better now but it took a month or so to figure out. Hopefully it will be diff for 7DMT.

They could have reduced the system overload somewhat by announcing the official opening date at least a month ago and opening FP+ booking 60 days out. You wouldn't have had people trying to book the Mine Train for more than a month of onsite trips and a week of offsite trips all in one morning. Although, offsiters trying to book FP+ for opening week are probably pretty glad that offsiters didn't get a month's head start.

Wow ! How many for opening day ? That is when we will be there. I was hoping it wouldnt be to crowded but now after Min Train opening that day it may be swamped !
