50´s Prime Time Café

Does anyone know if the kid's sundae is still a build your own?

So you are seated with others if you are a small group, or just really, really close to other people?

Hmmm, we have a ressie here since I wanted to try it. But Dh hates to eat with strangers...

The weird thing is that they called both of our parties at the same time and
I did think anythinig of it when they called us until we were both having
to follow the same seater. Then they put us in a booth that had
two small tables in it the seperation in the tables were just enough to squeeze thru.
We were not allowed to ignore your (so called Cousins- in the other side of the booth)
we were constintly made to talk to them by our Cousin Server. We could not
really just eat our meals in peace with all of that playing along stuff.
I didn't care for it at all. We couldn't wait to go. I'm ususally a really up
for anything type of person but this made me uncomfortable.
It was like a Twilight Zone eposode.
I guess some people really like this. It was not for us.

This was one of my favorite places to eat when I was a kid, because it was fun to play along. My grandmother has video footage from the trip with us three, and everything was awesome. My "Cousin" even tested me on my spelling words and gave me extra desert for eating everything on my plate. The true best part... watching my grandma get yelled at for not only putting her elbows on the table, but for not eating her vegtables. I have never seen anyone yell at my grandma before (even in fun), but she did what she was told. My grandfather and I made fun of her the rest of the day.

I loved my experience so much, that almost 14 years later I am heading back to Disney and one of the top ADR's is 50's Prime Time Cafe.

Although if you do not want to play along, this is not really the resturant for you.

My husband loves the pot roast here so we always have to go. Personally, I would rather try some where else. We have been there several times and have never got a really good waiter or waitress who plays the roll. We alway wind up with cranky, over worked waitstaff. The food is good, except for the chicken cesar salad. (The chicken was so dry that my daughter choked on it :sad2: But the fried chicken is good). IMHO this is one of those places that you expect to be entertained and if you are not, it ruins the whole meal.

Can someone describe the PBJ milkshake. I heard it is delicious but the picture looks different than I expected.

We have always had good servers here and have had a great time! My ds(11) loves it there! Also, the fried chicken is great!

We love 50's Prime Time, in fact we are eating dinner there a week from Saturday. :cool1:

Funny, the only picture of the food that I have is of the Smoores.

Yummyyy, cant wait to have them again.

We have been turned away three times without an ADR now, in the "slow season", so we are making ADR's this next trip for sure. I am looking forward to finally trying it!

A couple questions:
1) for couples, do you think it's likely more fun with a group of friends? I have a hard time imagining the two of us just being teased and playing along, but can imagine a group being a riot. Does that sound strange?

2) as someone mentioned above, they were not in the mood at all to play along. I am usually in the mood for any antics, but sometimes the heat and walking and exhaustion of a trip can wear you out, and you aren't in "that place". I don't want to miss out, but wonder, if I am not in the mood, should I cancel my ADR's? Or should I stick it out and the servers will be able to suss out how much we are or aren't into the whole schtick?

It all depends on your server and you. If you aren't in the mood to play, then let the hostess know and she will not it to the server and they will leave you alone.

Milk, vanilla ice cream, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter and 2 tablespoons of jelly. It is especially good when made with chocolate ice cream instead.

do you have to request a kitchen table, to be sat at one?
how many kitchen tables are there?

I've never been there with a group, just with my hubby, and we enjoy it thoroughly as a couple. A group would be fun too but we have a blast even when it's just us. This last time was the first time that surrounding tables were ever brought into it, other than my husband's singing of Yellow Submarine for the British table.

This too is one of my favorite places to eat. Last trip is was for DH's birthday, so we eat at his favorties places. We have ressie already for Nov. Looking at those pictures of the pot roast are making me hungry. I love their pot roast and it is way much better than my mom ever made!!!!!!

Does anyone know if the kid's sundae is still a build your own?

I think so-we got this last Sept. I believe it was listed on the kid's menu as sundae, not build your own. It's still listed as sundae according to allearsnet.com (Feb. 2008) as sundae, so I think so. I'm sure someone who has been there recently can confirm this.

I love this restaurant and just canceled eating there on our upcoming trip...i am so disappointed, but my DH wants to try something new....

More pictures...We had a fun time three weeks ago..Waitress was very funny, she made me take off my hat and keep my elbows off the table. The father at the table beside us didn't eat all his vegetables so he got them back with some ice cream on them for dessert, his kids were laughing at him so much they were almost crying....BTW, there are a lot of old TV's in the place!!!

This is one of the restaurants that I love for the theming and the atmosphere, but I'm less than thrilled with the food itself. My family and I have had some really great laughs when we've had excellent servers.

But, if you don't want to risk being picked on (for not eating all your food or not talking enough or putting your elbows on the table, etc) this isn't the place for you. This also might be why I haven't been too happy with the food. I'm both kind of picky and a vegetarian, so I just order the one vegetarian thing on the menu even though I don't really like it. I don't want to get picked on for making a special request! Maybe next time I should just suck it up and see what else they can make me, because I do like going there for the fun (and the desserts are fun)
