Watching all the coverage of the anniversary of 9/11 today makes me think of all the firefighters and police out there who give so much every day.
To all of you here on the DISboards....

:firefight :firefight THANK YOU and GOD BLESS YOU ALL ::cop: ::cop:

I second this and great idea Ellenmiele to start a thread to let them all know we support them.

Living near DC and working not far from the Pentagon on 9/11/01 - yesterday was emotional to say the least. It's something I know I won't ever forget!

God bless all the firefighters, police, and everyone who may have lost a loved one on that day (on this board and off the board). :grouphug: And a special blessing to all the military!

God bless those whose lives were lost. Those who sacrificed their lives to save others. And all those who stepped forward to assist in any way they could... from digging on ground zero to giving blood (which was desperately needed).

I have never been more proud of America and her people then on that horrible day, and the days and months following.

God Bless America!

Yes Def. GOD BLESS THEM ALL.. They are trully always on our prayers... And to all the lives lost in the trade center May you R.I.P.

GOD BLESS AMERICA

I proudly wore my Mickey Mouse American flag pin. I'm originally from Brooklyn, NY, where growing up, I could always see the Twin Towers. I cried all over again yesterday, watching TV, even reading the paper. I hope no one ever forgets the lives that were lost that day. I remember 911, all the time. It's an unfortunate memory that will stay with me the rest of my life. God Bless all those who were lost, and the Bravest and Finest who tried to save them.

Read this excerpt from a Romanian Newspaper. The article was written
by Mr. Cornel Nistorescu and published under the title "C"ntarea Americii,
meaning "Ode To America") in the Romanian newspaper Evenimentulzilei "The
Daily Event" or "News of the Day".

~An Ode to America~

Why are Americans so united? They would not resemble one another even
if you painted them all one color! They speak all the languages of the world
and form an astonishing mixture of civilizations and religious beliefs.
Still, the American tragedy turned three hundred million people into a hand
put on the heart.

Nobody rushed to accuse the White House, the army, and the secret
services that they are only a bunch of losers. Nobody rushed to empty their
bank acco un t s. Nobody rushed out onto the streets nearby to gape about. The
Americans volunteered to donate blood and to give a helping hand.

After the first moments of panic, they raised their flag over the
smoking ruins, putting on T-shirts, caps and ties in the colors of the
national flag. They placed flags on buildings and cars as if in every place
and on every car a government official or the president was passing.

On every occasion, they started singing their traditional song:
"God Bless America!" I watched the live broadcast and rerun after
rerun for hours listening to the story of the guy who went down one hundred
floors with a woman in a wheelchair without knowing who she was, or of the
Californian hockey player, who gave his life fighting with the terrorists
and prevented the plane from hitting a target that could have killed other
hundreds or thousands of people.

How on earth were they able to respond united as one hum an being?

Imperceptibly, with every word and musical note, the memory of some
turned into a modern myth of tragic heroes. And with every phone call,
millions and millions of dollars were put in a collection aimed at rewarding
not a man or a family, but a spirit, which no money can buy.

What on earth can unite the Americans in such a way? Their land?
Their galloping history? Their economic Power? Money? I tried for hours to
find an answer, humming songs and murmuring phrases with the risk of
sounding commonplace.

I thought things over, but I reached only one conclusion... Only
freedom can work such miracles.

Here Here! My Dad is a retired firefighter, so I know how risky a job it is. Unfortunately it took a terrible day like 9/11 for a lot of people to realize that our firefighters and police officers all over the country are everyday heroes! They should be honored daily! As well as our soldiers over seas! God bless them all and the families of the victims of 9/11. My heart goes out to them all!

My brother is a firefighter in Prince Georges County, MD. He always would say, "Yeeeah,
I save lives for a living." Then we'd all roll our eyes. I don't do that anymore. I just
feel very, very proud of him.

Just wanted to say hi  Cee - I grew up in PG County and my parents lived there for over 50 years.

God bless all the fire fighters, EMS, and law enforcement officers everywhere.

Hi, Mischa! My folks still live there. Over 51 years. They're near the Univ.
of Md., College Park just off of Univ. Blvd. and Riggs Rd. You know, near
TICK TOCK! :thumbsup2

being from the UK i watched the coverage we had over here and it was very moving. My heart goes out to all those who lost a loved one and to the bravery of the fire department.

OMG I know exactly where that is! Is Tick Tock still there? My parents were off Queens Chapel Road in Avondale just before the DC line. When my dh & I got married our first apartment was on Riggs Rd., just down from Tick Tock.

Such a small world!

Mischa, the Chillum Fire House was were by brother volunteered when he first started out. YES, Tick Tock is still there. It has to be, that is the only way to give someone
directions. "Okay, you know Tick Tock? Of course. Okay, from Tick Tock you......"
HA! Avondale. WOW. We had our dance recitals at Mt. Rainier H.S.

Amazing......

We were actually IN WDW on 9-11-01 - no better place to be I guess. I'm sure that panic outside The World was much worse than all of us & the other vacationers inside - Disney did their best to keep on smiling & to make it a fun time for the kids. CMs did NOT discuss what was going on in the world, it seemed like they were forbidden to. We were sitting at the Indiana Jones show, wondering why the start was delayed, and no one believed her when the chipper CM came out smiling to announce that the show was cancelled & that the parks were being evacuated. Some people actually chuckled, thinking it was part of the show. A few minutes later 2 CMs came to the mike to announce that "Due to the circumstances going on in the world the park was indeed closing & we were to evacuate the parks in an orderly manner." Of course the CMs smilled the whole time, not to break that Disney spirit! No better place either I guess to be "stuck" when there were no flights for days, no rental cars, no cell phone service. Rooms were readily available since no one was flying "in" to WDW either. 9-12-01 was the emptiest day I've ever seen at MK - people were scared & stayed at their resorts. Of course Tropical Storm Gabrielle (I think it was Gabrielle) came through the night of the 12th & on the 13th, which just compounded everything. Parks were open on the 13th but we all received letters under our doors the night of the 12th strongly advising us not to leave the room, and what to do in case of power outages, flooding, high wind etc. (they recommended everyone getting in the tub for safety! No water of course....)
