I will answer that question, because I have other kids. Because I don't seen any risk in taking a 5 week old to disney.
I have 4 kids, my 4 was put in the hospital at 6 weeks old, for a UTI. So, I know things happen, but I still wouldn't stop the what ifs from doing the things I wanted to do.
We drove cross country, when my oldest was 10 days old. We were all fine, we took things slow, having kids didn't stop my life.
Its not like disney is in the middle of nowhere, and there are no hospitals in case the worst case scenario happens.
I basically have to agree here. In my case, with my 1st child, we went because it was a big family trip. We booked it before I was pregnant, my aunts/uncles/cousins/mom/inlaws/nieces/nephews/etc. were all going. We could have skipped it and stayed home, but it was likely the only time we will ever vacation with some of those people so I'm glad we didn't turn down the experience. My daughter was slightly older, 11 weeks, but she was also 15 days early, so should could have been as young as 7 weeks and we still would have gone.
My son was about the same age (12 weeks), but he was a full month preterm, so we were planning on him being about 9 weeks at the time of travel (we had a medical induction set for my 38th weeks, so we knew he'd be early). In that case, my husband had preset vacation weeks, in 2 2 week blocks, so we didn't really get a choice as to when we had time off. Sure we could have stayed home for the 2 weeks, but given my husband's work schedule (he's a medical resident), we rarely see him during at home as he can often work 7 days a week, often gets home after the kids are in bed, if he's not overnight, and leaves before we are all up every morning. So we can basically never do weekend trips, or even many local weekend activities with him joining us. So when vacation time comes around we do not want to stay home and look forward to the time away as a family.
