We are looking at taking a vacation later this year but instead of Disney we are looking at doing Universal and Sea World. I haven't stayed off site in years. I have 2 teen boys 16 & 14 and an 11 yr old girl. I was looking at the Nick hotel and was wanting to know what it's like for teens. Is is best suited for smaller kids? What other hotel do you recommend for us to stay. Would like 1 room or small suite that isn't too expensive. Looking at staying for 5 to 6 nights. Any suggestions?

My idea is different, but if you stay onsite (I like Royal Pacific) hotel at Universal then you don't have to wait in lines - a great perk! City Walk is lots of fun, too.

If you want your teens to think you are a great parent, stay onsite for your Universal part of the trip. The ability to repeat rides over and over that they enjoy, and the ability to jump over to the parks when maybe you don't want to makes the extra cost seem minimal. I can't speak for your teens, but mine would wonder what happened to me if I booked the Nick as a treat for them. You could also pool hop over to the HRH which would be a huge hit for all your kids.

I agree, my teens love staying at Universal hotels to avoid the lines - crazy prices though so only staying 3 days.

I haven't stayed at the Nick Hotel, but my brother has. I really think that it is better suited for younger children.

Are you going to have transportation? If so, you might want the check out Vista Cay. It's new, very nice, and very close to Sea World and Universal.

I have teens and I would be the BEST if we stayed at the Universal resorts. Besides the great hotels and location, the line VIP treatment would be great.

We drove past the Nick hotel in January, and my teens said if I ever booked that hotel for them they would kill me. In talking to a few who stayed there with little ones, they said it was great for them, but was kiddie city and not good for our older kids.

I would think the space of a pool home or condo would be great, but again, my teens would kill me. They love the activity and energy of a hotel, meeting other teens, walking down for a coffee or snack, hanging at the pool with people.

What time of year are you going? The Universal Studios hotels can be very, very reasonable at offtimes.

Thanks for all your input. Looking at going end of August early September. I will definitely stay away from the Nick Hotel. I think the HRH looks good. Now if I could find a good deal.....I would be set. Thanks again for all the input.

Here's another vote for staying onsite at Universal. HRH is a good choice. We've stayed at all 3 resorts. We only got in one stay each at PBH & RPR though. Our DS(15) always requests HRH. To hear him tell it, you'd think they only had one resort. :p
