5 nights in WL or 7 nights in a moderate?

There will be 4 of us travelling - me , DH, DS5, and DS4 (almost). It is my children's first time to Disney and the first time my husband and I have ever stayed on property. :cool1: We have a standard room booked at WL for 5 nights on the free dining plan but we are now considering changing our reservation back up to 7 nights.

The original reason we were going to stay in the WL was the proximity to MK and the bunkbeds. After reading on here that someone didn't get the bunkbeds they requested, I'm not sure WL is worth the extra money. We would love to be able to stay in a monorail resort but that is just not possible financially. Due to some recent annoying circumstances we cannot increase the cost of the vacation. :sad1: So should we go for 7 nights in a moderate or keep the 5 nights in the WL? Which moderate would you go for? I was thinking the CSR but when I just went on the web site it doesn't look like there is availabilty for our time frame.

Thanks

Well, I'm not sure if this pushes your decision but the WL is not a monorail resort; there is a boat to the MK and buses for the others.

That being said, if it came down to a choice between a deluxe for 5 or a mod for 7, I'd take the mod. My feeling is you can never have enough days at Disney, and the extra time will allow you to either repeat favorites or see the World at a slightly more leisurely pace.

I've stayed at the POR, which is a mod, and it was wonderful. I really don't think you'll be disappointed.

IMHO, I just love being at Disney! I will only stay on property, but that is my only steadfast demand. We have only ever stayed at WL, CR & Poly. My DH told me we could go in Oct. w/free dining plan for X____ number of dollars. I could eithher stay 4 days @ a Deluxe, or 10 days at a value. I spent only $1385 (budget was $1500) for 10 days vs. $3,600 @ WL or $2000 @ a MOD. Sure, the deluxes are nice, but honestly, just being there for the longest I can relax & enjoy it is my choice. Let us know what you decide. I would do it very quickly, everything is filling up fast (last check, CBR was only mod w/avail & ASsports was only value...but changes by the minute). Good luck!

WL is a lovely resort and you can take the little boat back and forth to MK.
But my vote would be for 2 extra days at a moderate so you can slow down a bit and actually enjoy your resort. Only mods I've stayed in are POR and CBR and was very happy at both. Are you able to get the food plan at a mod?

If that was my case, I would opt for moderate resort for a longer stay! I like moderate resorts as well as deluxe resorts. But for me to stay at WL std view, I wouldn't like it. It's much worth it for me to stay at courtyard view. So my answer to your question, I would do the moderate and stay longer! I would choose POFQ. It's my favorite resort!

my vote is also for a longer stay at a moderate.

do three nights at an all star and then four nights at wl. or do all seven at pofq. we stayed at por and wished that we had stayed at pofq! or, if you are renting or bringing a car, get a fw cabin. boat to mk and save a ton on food with a kitchen, plenty of room, and lots of fun things going on at your resort.

I didn't word that right. I knew that the WL wasn't on the monorail but when I asked a friend of mine what I should do, she said when you have small kids you should always stay at a monorail resort. But they are way more expensive. I can't/won't go into debt for the trip and it doesn't make sense to fly to Florida for fewer than 5 nights so I was just trying to stop a suggestion of one of the way more expensive resorts.

I have been fretting over this trip since the first go round of free dining (had 7 nights standard at WL) and thought I had everything settled but then my DH had to go and decide he needed a new job (changed to 5 nights standard at WL cause couldn't get the time off). So now I am having a hard time trying to make a reservation since we have no idea if the new company will let him have off. Maybe I'll just make the reservation and go without him if they won't!

Since this is a first for the kids and first onsite for you I'd definately go for 7 at a moderate. Check out Port Orleans - either Riverside or French Quarter. They are great moderates that also offer boat transportation to Downtown Disney.

You will definately need the extra time to truly enjoy the Disney experience.

I just came back last week from our stay at Riverside and it was a fabulous vacation. ::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo

:bounce: I am excited for you!!!! I remember being in your position. I too suggest longer at a mod. Check into POR and ask for AB, these rooms offer a trundle bed for seperation of kids sleeping together. ::MinnieMo

I'd go with 7 nights at a moderate. My pick with kids would be either POR or CBR. CBR has the beach and POR has fishing. Both are extremely "kid friendly". Have fun - and enjoy the free dining!

Although we love WL and can't wait to go next month, I'm with everyone else. If I had the choice of WL for a 5 day stay or a mod for 7, I would choose the 7 nights with no hesitation!!

There is so much more to Disney than the resort you're staying at and you will enjoy having more days to experience more that Disney has to offer.

Plus, with 2 more nights and free Dining, you get 2 more TS, 2 more CS and 2 more snacks to enjoy :earsboy:

I agree completely........I love the WL but I am someone who spends more time at the resorts as a mini vacation since I am a passholder. Saving money and having a few extra days IMO opinion is the way to go, you can slow down, the kids won't be so worn out (you either) and you can enjoy the resort more. POR is a nice resort and some of the rooms have a trundle bed. They have several pools and a great food court. The WL does have the boat to the MK but if you want to visit the other parks you will have to take a bus or take the boat to the MK and hop the monorail to EPCOT. But the other resorts still would require a bus ride so it is not that much more convenient compared to many of the moderates. The WL is a beautiful resort but with the short amount of time that you would be there is it worth the extra money? Since you will be busy trying to do all the parks.

Loving Disney as much as I do I would pick more nights at a moderate than less nights at a Deluxe. Don't get me wrong, I love the Deluxes but I will only stay there if I can stay the same amount of time as the moderate. I would choose a moderate and go seven nights personally, my husband was happy with Coronado Springs personally and didn't think the WL was all that. I am in the same boat as you, I would love to do Poly again for the monorail and theming but can't afford it so I am going to POR because I have heard good reviews about it.

IMO, I'd go with the option that gave us a lengthier stay.

Good luck making your decision!

I love the WL, but I too would go with the longer stay. My vote goes for the Riverside Mansions!! :earsboy: Whatever you decide, have a WONDERFUL time and enjoy every second of it!!! :sunny:

Since it is your sons' first trip I would stay at the mod. The extra two days means you will have a much more relaxed vacation. Save the deluxes for when they are older!

I would go with the Moderate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go visit WL if you would like but I pick the longer stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I am not in the majority, but I would go with WL for a shorter stay. I have a DS 5 and a DS 2. We are going for our first family trip in Nov. We are staying at AKL for 5 nights and have requested bunk beds.

I don't know about your kids, but 5 nights and 6 days will be about the max my kids can handle. Some people have very flexible kids, but mine like their routine. And while I know they will love WDW, it will exhaust them. We really don't care if we see "everything" this trip, so it doesn't bother me in the least that we will only be there 5 nights. We just want to have a nice family vacation. We will take afternoon breaks and will try to get them in bed every night at a reasonable time, but I know my kids. They will still get tired! So for me, a 7 night stay really wouldn't be an option. Plus, this is our first trip to Disney and I want some of the extras a Deluxe offers. I want the balcony, so DH and I can sit outside after the kids go to bed. I want the bunkbeds (keeping my fingers crossed) so that each kid has their own bed. I want the queen bed so I have a better shot at getting a good night's rest. I want the interior hallways, so if it is hot or raining our walk is more pleasant. I want a nice swimming pool, and I want the activities for the kids at the resort. I know I "want" a lot, but it is our first trip to Disney! Plus, we will not be the type to make a yearly trip to Disney, so when we get a chance to go I want to do it right!

Whatever you decide, I hope you have a fantastic trip! ::MinnieMo
