Could anyone give me any advice about what options i have at staying at a Disney resort with 5 people in a room. I have previously stayed at the All star music with no problems and just recently came back from our stay at POR which accepts 5 in a room, I am somewhat disapointed with the very few options that Disney provide for more than 4 in a room. Is Disney that much of a stickler about having just one extra person in a room, it is myself , my wife and three daughters ages 13, 8, 5.

Thanks for your help.

We have put 5 in a room at all the resorts we have stayed at including CSR all 3 All Stars and WL and BWV and OKW Dixie etc. We have never had any issues with this we are a family of 5 myself DW and 2DD's and a DS.

I think Disney has rules about this for various reasons. We, too, are a family of 5 and we pretty much limit ourselves to the resorts where Disney allows 5 people. Sometimes with babies, you can get a 4 person room and a crib - if the child is under 3.

But the smaller rooms really do not hold 5 people. 2 double beds just isn't enough space.

We always try to get a good rate at the Poly - but have stayed at POR before and that was nice.

Another great option is to get 2 connecting rooms at one of the value resorts. Kids have 1 room and mom and dad have the other - that makes for a real vacation! You can keep the door open at night and not have any problems. It is just like you are home in separate bedrooms.

My advice is to follow the Disney rules - makes it just nicer and teaches your kids the right things. Just my opinion. And it would be nice if Disney offered some more alternatives for larger families.

thanks Lisa, did you have any problems or questions when you purchased 5 park hoppers with a room. or did you purchase seperately.

I can't speak for the others, but OKW and BWV only provide bedding for 4 plus a portable Pac 'n Play Crib suitable for an infant. Neither BWV nor OKW provide rollawys, cots or extra bedding to accomodate more than the listed maximums (4 plus a child under 3 years of age). If your party is larger than that, you'll need to bring an air mattress/bedding to accomodate the extra person(s).

The value resorts and moderate resorts have 2 double beds. There are some rooms at POR that have a trundle bed and are listed as sleeping 5. Families with small/young children often book 2 connecting rooms. This gives the added value of two barhrooms as well as some privacy for parents. I've been told connecting rooms can be guaranteed if the children are young.

Most of the deluxe hotels have standard rooms that accomodate 5 (they have a twin size daybed) and Fort Wilderness cabins sleep 6.

There are 2 & 3 bedroom villas available in the DVC resorts (sleep up to 12) and suites available in the deluxe hotels that can accomodate more than 4.

As far as I know, Disney does not do bed checks. :teeth:

It matters not to me if a family wants to put more in a room than Disney states as the maximum allowed, but I think those that do should know what to expect for beds/bedding and that is why I posted.

Best wishes -

Correct, but they will only issue room keys for the lawful room limit.

I have heard some stories where people were asked to leave or purchase another room if they were found to be in violation of fire codes.

Contemporary has large rooms that fit five comfortably. We had five this past June. Two queens & a twin. Room size was excellent. We stayed in a south wing, standard view.

You might also consider the cabins at Fort Wilderness. You'd have your own private little "home" consisting of a bedroom and livingroom/kitchen. Each unit also has a gas grill. So if you're sick of resturant food, you can toss a few "dogs" on the grill. Oh, and tell your wife each one comes with full housekeeping. ;)

They tend to be a bit more isolated than the standard hotel rooms, but then, some people like the isolation.

Or you can keep the door closed at night and have some fun. ;)

Many resorts accomidate - I know AKL has bunk beds - etc.

I would recommend looking into a Home away from Home resort, I like OKW - we had a two bedroom sute which could have fit many. It had one master bedroom with a king bed and another bedroom with two beds. Two bathrooms and like 3 televisions. I dont think it is overly expensive either. Maybe you should price it!

We have had 5 in our studio at OKW and VWL we are DVC members and have also used a 1 bedroom. As for the room keys our ids never went bac to the room without us so it was not ever necessary to have 5 keys. Our ids are still only 7 3 and 1.5. We just bring and air bed and bedding with us much easier.

At these ages, your group can still fit in a single Value Resort room, as you have 4 plus 1 under age 3 in a crib....

I wish he still slept in a crib. We even put 5 in our room when it was my mother and my wife and myself and 2 kids made no difference and Disney had all the people listed for the room on the reservation.

Wow, I hear you sister. We are a family of 5 with 3 ds, I am outnumbered for sure. I honestly dont like my family in 2 rooms as the ds would fight, throw stuff, stay up late, eat too many snacks etc. I know them too well. We have stayed at Poly, YC, Beach Club, AKL and Contemp. But we usually go during value season and we ask for the cheapest room. If you can get a code etc. that is great. We are going during april next year so I know it will be expensive, if we cant get a good deluxe rate then we are going to the swan again, as we have stayed there twice on the govt. rate. This time instead of the rollaway there we have purchased an aero bed and that will save $25 bucks a night. My ds love the grotto pool there and the govt. rate cant be beat. You might qualify for one of their discounts.
