We're back from our Anniversary Trip to the World!

The Cast:

Ryan (DH-32) Loves me inspite of my Disney Passion, but doesn't quite get it :confused3

Me - Shawn (34) Certified Disney Freak :cheer2:

The background story: We spent weeks talking about where we would celebrate our 10th Anniversary. We discussed every where from Vegas, DC, Chicago, & NYC. In the back of my mind I knew where I wanted to go, but I was afraid to ask. I finally got the courage to ask and he said yes! IF we could stay at AKL. LOL I had priced out a trip staying at POR to show him how reasonable it would be with free dinning. I quickly made a ressie at AKL, but I couldn't get Savannah view. I panicked when I made our ressies only 53 days in advanced! Would I be able to get any decent ADRs????:confused: Would we get Savannah view???

Stay tuned!

I managed to get ADRs for Boma (dinner), Crystal Palace (breakfast), Captains grille (dinner) and GF Cafe (dinner).

Try as I might, I could not get a Savannah view. I called several times a week with no luck.

So did I mention we were leaving the kids at home??? This required a level of secrecy that would rival Area 51. We talked in code languages "FLA" "AKL" "WDW" hoping the boys wouldn't pick up on it. We took the boys for their first trip last February and they haven't stopped talking about returning since we got home. this caused a lot of guilt for me, but I knew that we needed to get away.

Up next: Day 1

Our flight was scheduled to leave at 6:30am from Flint (about 1 1/2 half away from home). I had set the alarm for 3am and somehow managed to fall asleep about 11pm.

I woke up at 2:32am and jumped out of bed. As I shut off the alarm DH said "get back in bed". I told him no way, if we leave early we could stop for breakfast :goodvibes (the way to my man's heart is right through his stomach ). So he jumped up, we both showered and dressed and we left the driveway at 3:27am, in a whopping 49 degree Michigan morning.

The only thing open was an all night diner where we both had omlets. We made it to the airport by 5am. We checked our bags and headed to security. DH made it through no problem. They pulled my bag (my Bagallini) aside and said they were going to rescan it. The sent it back through and then the agent told me she was going to inspect my bag. She ased me if I had any dangerous weapons in the bag. I told her I had Disney pins on my lanyard but that I was told that was okay by the agent when I checked my bag:rotfl: As she was going through my bag I remembered by Xshot (camera monopod) was in that bag. I told her I had a metal "stick" in my bag that was for my camera. She told me not to touch the bag. I point to the pocket it was in and she pulled it out and asked me if that was it. I told her yes. They rescanned my bag with the "stick" in a seperate tray. All was well, they said that's what they had seen. So I was detained at security for my "camera on a stick". I told DH I would be sure to check it on the way home.

The flight was packed and we noticed a lot of Disney luggage tags. I could feel the energy on the plane. Ryan joked that I was more excited than the kids on board. :yay: It was hard to sit still. I was willing the plane to go faster.

We got to our gate (D terminal) in Atlanta and asked the Delta agent where our next gate was because there was no information board. She told us A30. We rode the tram to A and walked all the way down there to discover that flight was heading for Vegas. We asked at that gate and found out our flight was leaving from A1. The complete opposite end! Ugh. We stopped to get a snack at Aunt Annies Pretzels and walked to the other end of A terminal where our plane was already starting to board.

It was a quick flight down to Orlando. We found ME with no problem. We were only waiting a few minutes when a bus pulled up and they dropped our rope. As we were following the herd I overheard someone mention the Boardwalk. I somehow got us in the wrong line. I told the CM that we were going to AKL so she had us sit on a bench and wait. I felt soooo embarrased. We waited about 20 minutes for the AKL bus and we were on our way. I was practically bouncing in my seat. Ryan joked that he heard the little girl behind me say "calm down lady" LOL.

Hi, Shawn!

My husband and I just returned from WDW on Sept. 30, so it looks like we overlapped by a day. We're from Michigan, too! Detroit area...you?

Looking forward to reading more about your trip. Happy anniversary, btw!

We walked in to AKL and I told DH not to rush me, I was going to soak it all in. It is so impressive in person. Photos don't do it justice. I stood there in awe, smiling like a cheshire cat. DH headed to the online check in line while I stood in the majestic lobby. I went over to join him as he was asking about an upgrade to a Savannah view. The CM told him they were full but that we could look at a room that had a partial view. We made the long walk to 2572 on the Zebra Trail. We walked out on the balconey and there were two giraffes, a zebra and several tommies. We were in our glory. We called the front desk to say we'd take this room. I freshened up quick and we were headed for Epcot!

Hi! We live near Clare in a tiny speck of a town that has more cows than people. My parents grew up near Detroit so I have a lot of family down there. I'll jump over and check out your TR. Glad to "meet" you! :cheer2:

I promise as soon as I get my pictures uploaded to PB I will have tons of pics...I took over a 1000 in 5 days!

So we were on our way to Epcot. We only waited about 5 minutes for the Epcot bus and we had it all to ourselves all the way to Epcot. We pulled into the Epcot lot at 2:03 and we were on our way. We stopped right inside the gates for our first photopass picture. The entrance was decorated for the food and wine festival. It was so cute! We dashed through FW to grab FP for Soarin' on our way to the WS. We danced to Off Kilter as we explored Canada and UK. I grabbed a Grey Goose Slush in France. We took lots of pics. I never did find the Eifel tower. Can you get back that far???

I love Morocco! The architecture. I took a lot of pictures.

We made it over to Japan and I picked a pearl. It was a neat experience, however, I felt bad that the oyster had to die for me.

On our way to the American Adventure, I was attempting to get the "stick" out of my bag so that DH and I could take picture in front of the lagoon. I dropped the camera. I cracked open. DH put it back together, but it wouldn't turn on. I wanted to cry. We grabbed a funnel cake and sat down. I tried everything....taking the batteries out, I looked for a reset button, tried to reopen it hoping putting it back together a different way would help. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zillch. DH told me if it was going to ruin my trip he'd put me on the first plane home. I tried to act happy as we made our way around the rest of the WS. We stopped in the Norway shop after riding Malestrom which wasn't as lame as I imagined....at least it was better than Stiches great escape. DH was getting ready to buy my some disposable cameras when the CM told us to try the camera center up by SE. We grabbed a frozen treat (DH got a banana on a stick, I got a Mickey icecream sandwich) as we walked. We went by FT but the standby line wait was 50 minutes so then we went over to MS to check out the wait time. 5 minutes. No lie. We walked right on. We chose the orange track. I asked DH if he was going to be okay after eating his banana on a stick (he is prone to motion sickness). He said no problem. We rode with another couple who was also celebrating their 10th anniv. They were really nice. MS rocks! I loved it. We got off and DH looked a little pale. As we continued toward the camera shop he started to moan. By the time we got up there he looked green. He sat down outside while I shopped for a camera. I got a Kodak 14 mp EasyShare camera with 5x zoom. It was a little over $200. Later in the week I checked it out on Amazon...it was only $25 more at Disney than online. I didn't think that was too bad considering they could charge whatever they wanted. By this point DH was almost asleep on the bench outside and still not looking great. He agreed to ride SE, I promised him it wasn't violent LOL.

After SE he asked if we could go back to the resort. I think it was about 5:30pm. I reluctantly agreed. We'd been up since 2:30 and neither one of us had slept on our flights. Once again we only waited about 5 minutes for a bus. We had good bus karma!

Once back at the resort DH napped while I played around with the new camera, trying to learn all the bells and whistles. I let him sleep an hour and then I was rearing to go. I woke up him and asked if he felt better. I didn't want to miss illuminations. He said he was much better so we freshened up and headed back to Epcot. Our good bus karma continued...the bus was pulling up as we walked up to the bus stop! We made it back to the WS about 8pm. People were already grabbing their seats for illuminations. We settled in near Japan (we had ressies at Teppan Edo at 9:35). DH had never seen Illuminations so it was cool to watch it with him for the first time.

Afterwards we went up to TE and we were seated immediately. There was already a family of 4 at the table. They were very quiet. The DS was about 14, he played his Nin DS the whole time. The DD (about 17) read her book. DW was drinking martinis left and right and the poor DH just sat there watching his family not interact. We felt pretty out of place but tried to be friendly. DH and I both got the fillet. While we were waiting for our food a little boy about 3 yo touched the grill at the next table. The paramedics had to come to check him out. His screams broke my heart. They said it wasn't bad, they bandaged it up and by the time they were done with him he had actually fallen asleep on his mom's lap. I got my dessert to go (chocolate ginger cake). DH had icecream. Our server gave me a little orgami bird. It was so cute!

We took our time walking the rest of the WS lingering in shops and goofing off. We went over to TT to check the wait. It was only 20 minutes (by now it was EMH so the crowds were lighter). It was neat to ride it at night. After TT we went over to Soarin' to use our FP. It was 11:58 when we got off Soarin' so we made our way to the bus stop. It was after 12:30 by the time we made it back to our room. I think I fell asleep before my head hit the pillow.

Next up: AK and another camera shop!
