Have a 5 day MYW with park hopper, unused. I would like to upgrade to an AP. How would this work with fast pass+? Can it be upgraded before arrival at the park? Any insight to the best way to do this would be great! Thanks!

Have a 5 day MYW with park hopper, unused. I would like to upgrade to an AP.

1- How would this work with fast pass+?

2- Can it be upgraded before arrival at the park?

1- At this time, with that 5-day ticket linked to MyDisneyExperince and an on-site resort stay,
you can make 6 days of FP+ reservations.

2- If your current ticket is one that you purchased at a discount, or part of a previous resort package, don't upgrade it
before your trip.

After you arrive and USE your current ticket to enter a Theme Park at least one time, THEN upgrade
it to an AP.
At that point, you can make additional FP+ selections if your current trip is longer than 5-6 days.
And, you will then be able to make advance FP+ reservations for future trips during the life
of this AP, even if you are not staying on-site for those upcoming trips.

Economically, you'll want to enter a park before you try to upgrade your ticket to the AP.

If your ticket is a paper ticket, then you'll need to trade it for an RFID ticket to be able to navigate the "turnstyles".

Either RFID ticket will work for FP+ at the in-park kiosks.

If you have linked the ticket to MME and have a resort stay, then you can book your FP+ and they'll stay put when you upgrade-- I did this during Thanksgiving with no loss of FP+ ressies during/after the switch.

How will I link the pass for fast pass+ if it isn't an AP? We will be going for 10 days

Who issued you the ticket? If it's a Disney Issued ticket, then what happens is they just give you the original cash value of your ticket as credit for the AP.

They USE TO (not any more) "Bridge" the ticket. They would give you a credit equal to the current GATE Price of the ticket you had.

As far as I know there is no way to convert tickets without standing at a ticket window.

Or to word it better, if I only have a 5 day pass linked to MDE, will I be able to make fast pass+ reservations for the remaining 5 days? Or only the 5 I have a ticket for?

You have your info only partially correct.
That last line is only correct in a very few specific instances.
"Price bridging" is still in effect for most tickets.

Yes it is a Disney issued ticket from a package. We got annual passes for that trip and didn't use the 5 day ticket that came with the package.

When was your previous trip?

Your ticket is fully eligible for "price bridging."
And, that's the reason you want to USE it to enter a theme park
BEFORE the upgrade.

Great! Now the fast pass+ question, can I link the 5 day ticket to MDE? And if so will I only be able to make FP+ reservations for this 5 days?

After you USE your current ticket, your 5-day Park Hopper will "become worth"
$348 (plus tax) toward your purchase of an AP.

And if I don't use it? How much would it be worth?

What a 5-day park hopper cost in Dec. of 2012, at maximum...
and MAYBE even LESS than that, as the ticket was paid for as part of a package,
and that means we don't know exactly WHAT you actually paid for it.
