My cc has a recent promotion for 5% cash back at theme parks. I've read that other cc's have had similar offers. Has anyone been to WDW during one of these promotions? Any experience if this works at WDW restaurants? I didn't see any fine print that said tickets only (which we already bought)... so I'm hoping the offer is good for all purchases including food. :cool1:

Actually, you will probably get credit for nothing unfortunately. Discover had this deal going last year and I was excited to take advantage. After I got back from buying tickets, food, merchandise, etc...I waited and waited for several statements and no credit showed up. When I called about it I got several answers depending on who I talked to. In the end, a supervisor told me that WDW does not classify itself as a theme park when it bills...it's a resort or even a sort of "city". After some arguing, I got Discover to give me a partial credit, but they said it basically only works for places like Six Flags. Good luck, but don't base your purchases off of this promotion because the odds are against you I'm afraid.

Thanks for the information. My guess is that it would be the same for my cc as well. I'll just have to figure out other ways to save on dining!

You could get the same 5% off if you buy Disney cards at Target using a Target credit or debit card and then use the gift cards to pay for your dining. You could save even more if you stack a Target Pharmacy rewards certificate with your Target card purchase . . .

I don't have the target card. I did notice that my cc offers 3% back through disneystore.com. Do you know if the gift cards from the disneystore.com website work at restaurants? It states "Redeemable at DisneyStore.com, Disney Store locations in the in the U.S., participating locations at Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida, Disneyland® Resort in California, Disney Cruise Line®, ClubPenguin.com, and DisneyPhotoPass.com". So I'm not sure if they are all the same?? :confused3

No the restaurants in Disney (at least all of the ones I've been to) are not coded as theme parks so you won't get 5% for them. However, if you had a 5% quarterly category for restaurants, you would get that 5%.

Yes, those cards will work in the restaurants.

I have the Chase Freedom and its advertising this bonus for the next quarter. That stinks about Disney but now I'm wondering about Seaworld. We are going there in August. I was really looking forward to the 5% back. I guess I will have to wait and see.

You will get the 5% promotion with Chase Freedom card for tickets only. Go to the section on website where you sign up. It gives examples of Theme Parks covered in the promotion and Disney is listed!! I have Discover too and last year did have to fight for it, but looks like won't be a problem with Chase card. Yippee!! It does say only tickets though, so no dining or resort reservations.

If you don't mind me asking which credit card do you have?

It's a citi card... they give you extra cash back if you shop certain merchants through their portal and disneystore.com was listed.

Sounds like those are the correct ones.

That's awesome! I just received my card so I'm still a newbie with their site and figuring out how the programs works. Thanks for the heads up. :thumbsup2

You can actually get a "red card" that's a debit card. They have the applications in customer service. It will link directly to your bank account so you don't have to use a CC to get the 5% discount. I think they will give you a temp. card to use when you submit your application.

I have the Chase Freedom card. You always get 1% rewards points but quarterly they feature 5% bonus rewards from purchases of certain things. And sometimes they throw in an added bonus during the quarter. This current quarters added bonus is if you make an online purchase from Lowes they will give you 10% rewards and instore Lowes purchases are 5%. Next quarter (July - Sept) is 5% at theme parks, gas, and Kohl's.
Sept to Dec is Amazon purchases, and select dept stores and I see there is a big list of dept stores. Which will be great for the Christmas shopping season!

There is no annual fee for this card.

If only tickets qualify for the bonus, then I wonder how that would work when paying for a package which includes resort, dining and tickets? If I am not getting the bonus then I will use my Disney visa to pay off package but if I am getting the bonus then I will use my Freedom card. :confused3

Several years ago, when we paid our package it was coded as a resort/hotel purchase, not a theme park purchase. Worked out well for us at the time because our 5% bonus category that month was for hotels. Again, this was a few years ago, so it may have changed, but as of that time, packages were not considered theme park purchases.

I know Restaurants are coded as such so long as you charge each one seperate you will get the 5% back when this is offered as it is through June 30 on Chase Freedom...
If you charge everything to your room I am not sure what it is coded as but I know it is not theme parks or Restaurants.
as others have said the hotel reservations etc is a resort.
in other words it seems that this catagory will not help at Disney except maybe for a ticket purchase at the listed parks.

I contacted Chase directly about getting 5% back this quarter on a Disney World vacation package.

They told me that it would qualify (based on how my $200 deposit was coded).

So, I went ahead and paid the rest of my trip on my Freedom card today.

Hopefully it actually works and I'll let you guys know once my statement closes.
