5% Cash Back on Theme Parks

I believe those 5% category promotions have a maximum reward bonus of $75.

Meaning...anything spent over $1500 for those categories will not yield you 5%, only 1% over $1500. Currently, it's on Gas Stations, Theme Parks, and Kohl's. Combined. If you spend $500 on gas a month for 3 months, the theme park bonus won't really come into play, since you'd already hit the $1500 max i.e. $75 bonus.

This quarter, the deadline for activation is September 14, 2013. So in order to earn 5% cash back at Gas stations, Theme parks and Kohl's® on up to $1,500 spent this season, you need to activate by then.

Exactly. That's why we chose the Capital One cash card. 1.5% cash back, but unlimited. Doesn't take long for that to be a better card.

That's why I have both :). I use the Freedom card for the 5% back categories and my Capital One for the rest of my purchases.

Several years ago, when we paid our package it was coded as a resort/hotel purchase, not a theme park purchase. Worked out well for us at the time because our 5% bonus category that month was for hotels. Again, this was a few years ago, so it may have changed, but as of that time, packages were not considered theme park purchases.

This was my experience as well, almost exactly.

Also, check your card on the bonus limit mine had a maximum of $800 applying to eligible purchase so the maximum I could get in rewards was $40. Luckily I had a card, my mom had a card, DH had a card so I was able to get $120 by splitting my payments onto three different cards.

My wife and I each have Chase Freedom cards, when one gets maxed at the5% reward, then we go to the other. We charge everything, from the $1.06 morning coffee at McDonalds to groceries, medical bills, and even the church tithe.

Between buying Halloween Party tix for Disney and our room, plus gas, we'll easily max out this quarter. In addition, come September we'll cash out both cards to the tune of over $2,000. We pay in full monthly so it's free cash, no interest. Thanks Chase for the free Disney visit. :)

My Chase Freedom statement closed and I did not get the 5% back for the "theme park" category with my Disney Resort purchase. So I apologize if I led anyone the wrong way, but when I spoke with them earlier they said that it would.

So the CSR at Chase awarded me the additional points as a "one time courtesy," which I felt was the right thing to do.

I spent about 500 on tickets to Universal Orlando tickets through the universal website and did not receive the 5% cash back? I know it's activated because I did get the 5% back for gas purchases last month (did not reach the max):confused3 I bought them online using this card just to get the 5%. Otherwise I would have just waited until we got to FL next month.

We got tired of all the hoops to go through and the potholes we might have fallen in to when dealing with our old cards to get a rebate.

Right now we get 2% back on everything 24/7/365. We use of Fidelity Investment Rewards American Express. It has no annual fee.

...and the Disney Visa for the Disney reward dollars and store discount :) all paid off monthly of course! I charged my AP renewal and it gave me the reward for that. I have to buy 15 DLR tickets but will only put 1k on the Chase to finish up the reward limit then the rest on the Disney for the points that I can use to help pay my DVC MF. I rarely use the Cap one because mine is set up for a lower cash back until you hit I think 3K before the higher reward begins.

That's me. I use a Delta Amex for most things - a Target card for the 5% at Target (almost 10 with a prescription reward) - an Costco Amex at Costco - and a WellsFargo visa for anywhere that doesn't take Amex (the rewards aren't very good, but its rare I put more than a few hundred dollars a month on that card - and far more likely it never comes out of my wallet)
